I wish they found a better way to maker overland combat feel a bit more meaningful like other MMOs (without being obstructively hard), but they used to have "veteran" versions of overland that were instanced and it was a huge improvement for the community to remove that.
Now we get to be togethef with still some difficulty options—not amazing, but a compromise.
Problem is this is a complete waste of time and development since its easily overwritten by people who want the game in easy mode. They should not have allowed someone who wants the game on easy mode to force all others be on their easy mode. Thus the need for instanced areas. So no one would be forced by other players decisions.

You spent all this effort developing and marketing this new feature. But then allowed for it to be completely ruined and overwritten by others who want the game on easy mode. Making it completely useless for the players who asked for it in the first place.
Should have made it instanced and separate like how other games have it done. Let the easy players in their own area and the hard mode players in theirs. Now its just a frustrating experience and a huge disappointment.
Those who want the game on Adventurer difficulty, like it's been for the past 10 years, aren't ruining anything for anyone.
yeah they are. they can completely nullify the challenge mode difficulties for other players. Thus the need to separate them. Easy-mode-players should not be allowed to force others into their easy mode.

You do not get to dictate what other people do. You do not get to claim a World Boss for only yourself (it’s in the name: “World Boss” as in anyone in the World can take it on together). You do not get to claim that you’re the only person allowed to do damage because you want to flex your fancy healthbar on the plebs who don’t choose to use it.
If you want to have your solo Dark Souls experience, then you have options:
- Solo an instanced area, like an Arena, Dungeon, Trial, or Story final boss
- Play on PTS in the off-cycle
- Wait until the ‘honeymoon effect’ has worn off so people aren’t grinding those achievements and then there’ll be fewer people in those areas.
Yesterday I managed to get a delve (one of Bolgrul’s even!) to myself on Vestige. I went back with a friend about 15 mins later since we were trying to check something and then there were two other people there as well. Yes, it was trivial when 4 people - even 4 on Vestige - were taking a delve boss, but that’s how the world works. We later went to a Deshaan WB and it was just the two of us and we didn’t have anyone else show up (and we were able to log it to check what we wanted to see: how much our Companions were doing relative to us. Notably 2 DPS-specced Companions were essentially doing the same as 2 players specced as tank and DD)
Let’s also point out the fact that “ugh these people on low-difficulty modes!” isn’t the only thing that could make your life easier. Even two people who are both on Vestige would make a WB much easier since now you have double the damage and have a second person to take hits. Heck, I even saw someone unironically suggest that enemies should be programmed to ignore any taunts so it could target the high-difficulty players.
ZOS has made it eminently clear that they want as little fragmentation of the population as possible. If the mere existence of people who are not playing on your chosen difficulty is a problem, then an MMO is not for you.
I’m sure that as people get over this mode and get their achievements, they’ll settle down and a) choose a relevant level and b) not be farming enemies and bosses. You know, like every time a new shiny releases and is swarmed for a while until people move on. And then you’ll more than likely get your solo WBs anyway.
