What’s the benefit?
To preface: Before I stopped playing, I had sunk 5000+ hours into the game between the original launch and the Steam Launch.
The passives seem really weak, while also being limited to ONLY 2 of those passives… Verse being able to use multiple skill lines from other classes. I do not see how this is supposed to encourage players to use “pure” builds. The passives all seem to have very specific requirements, and are generally just too weak to compete with being able to customize your skills between classes.
Mastery would be a better/more fair pay-off if you were not capped at only being able to use 2 of the passives of any given class. As it stands, I am not seeing any reason to bother with Class Mastery while you can still subclass.
2 very specific passives in no way competes with being able to subclass at this time and seems like a waste of a mechanic. There’s very little reward for playing a “pure class”.
I’m a recently returning player (Started back in Beta!), and stopped playing a little bit after the whole “scrying” gimmick was introduced during Greymoore, (Yuck. Not a fan of RNG minigames), when ZoS failed to address the power creep, and kept bogging the game down with stuff like the Antiquities, and other mechanics that made my favorite (and fun) builds obsolete.
Upon returning, I got ALL these new things shoved into my face. Subclassing included. I honestly stopped playing seriously after the Skyrim Expansion got shoved down our throats. (I was FATIGUED with Skyrim, okay? Skyrim everywhere back then. Stop it, Tom Howard, Skyrims Already dead! [Simpson’s Neville Voice]) And found the addition of RNG minigames to prolong grinding to be very annoying.
When I saw that Werewolves were FINALLY getting reworked, I was super stoked to return and build something new. But now I’m seeing that if I want to participate in any new end game content, I’m going to have to subclass, and grind out additional antiquities junk and stuff.
Where do I even start? It’s like a completely different game. The champion system was nerfed heavily, with its passives and perks being limited by what you can fit on your “bar” and requiring you to sink certain amounts of points just to unlock more stuff, to spend more points just to get to a certain passive (which most need “slotted” to even work, which was not the case previously. More passives activated when you spent more points, without having to have them “slotted”. Which allowed for tons more play-style customization), and is kinda hard to navigate now. It feels like a bunch of the staple mechanics got nerfed while I was away in an attempt to force players to use the gimmick mechanics.
