Maintenance for the week of June 15:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – June 15

Am I reading it correctly: 14 Hours for Patch Maintenance?

They started it three hours earlier than usual rather than running it from 08:00 to 19:00 UTC.

Counting my blessings here that even if there is an extended maintenance I might be able to do guild admin today at least.

When MS purchased ZOS I thought they might have been amenable to hosting the megaservers in Azure which could have made maintenance seamless (from a player PoV).

However it is clear that I was pretty naive and MS has a completely different 'thing' in mind regarding their purchases.

Eh, I've seen games do 24hr maintenance for new updates and stuff before, mot just ESO. All part and parcel of being an MMO.
Struggling to find a new class to call home. Please send help.

Well, it wouldn't be a true maintenance day without the complaints.

Not trying to add fuel to a fire, just mentioning that you don't need to.

Ansuul + Tide-Born + Velothi has taken a substantial hit on damage output but is still viable.

I have no intention of farming the IA set(s) either; not worth my while because I don't play at that level (where a 15% DPS loss would mean that I would no longer qualify for the activity(es)).

People complain because it is 2026 not 1996 and most online services have little to no regular downtime (that the user sees) and that includes some games, even some MMORPGs (GW2, OSR, etc).

That's because users are moved to another server then moved back again. It might be 2026 but reducing costs is still the same animal it was in 1996. By all means feel free to petition Microsoft to reduce their profits or offer to fund it yourself.

I still remember old WoW patch days. Maintenance will end at 9am ... sorry, we meant 11am ... erm, it's going to be after lunch ... good evening everyone, sorry about that we're just doing final tests and the server should be up in an hour ... did we say hour, we meant tomorrow.

This, all day long. Literally, in fact. I remember it well.

Oh, and cue the "I DEMAND RECOMPENSE FOR MY MISSED PLAYING TIME" threads. For maintenance and patching... Was true in 2006, still true in 2026.

Enjoy the down-time. Go to work. Go study. Go get drunk. Maybe all three?

Is that for real? Over half a day straight for an update to put in the Werewolf Refresh, and a few Dynamic Encounters...? Or will it not actually be taking that obscene amount of time?

    Take servers offline
    Perform entire system backup
    Disk management, defragmentation and cleanup
    Upload new code
    Verify integrity of code
Spin server up for private use to test
    Bring servers online publicly

It doesn't matter if it's 100MB or 100GB proper server maintenance takes time. Add into that they are now updating three different platforms at once, with the same sized team as before. So the two console platforms start earlier, while the PC one starts later, but all 3 need to come online at the same time.

the backups, new code moved from dev to live and more can all be done before the process of reloading the servers. its an in place update where the objects can be moved into place and at the scheduled time the current files are renamed(yes while open) then the new codes moved into place then the reset occurs. idk why eso takes so long but its just the reset then verification thats necessary on day of roll out.

Wouldn't be an up to date entire system backup, as things would be changing (i.e. players still playing) as the backup was happening. Other live services get around downtime by simply moving users to different servers. That costs money.
