Alright, ESO, now that we're moving in the right direction with the game as a whole (class reworks, improvements to non-Mastery classes, weapon reworks, and updates to other skill lines such as Werewolf), I'd like to offer a new piece of feedback that I personally consider very important. (This post will contain some general spoilers for the game.)
The game needs narrative direction.
And no, I'm not talking about some massive, overly complex overarching narrative, but we need a Point A that leads to a Point B.
From my perspective, stories can't continue to be told in complete isolation. They need to move something forward. There needs to be a reason for us to stay invested.
I understand that this seems to be part of the plan with the Thieves Guild, for example, and considering that last year you teased the Dark Brotherhood, I imagine it will also receive some form of storyline in the future, although I assume priorities may have shifted.
I like this approach. I think it's great! But giving the overall story a stronger sense of direction would also be great. I think some questions that have remained unanswered for years could start being reintroduced into the game. For example:
What happened to Lyranth? What was the outcome of her quest? After all, we know she was searching for power, and she acquired a very significant source of it through the Ambitions. Her story left a huge "to be continued..." hanging after the events of Blackwood and Deadlands, and I hope it hasn't been forgotten.
And what about Thaddeus Cosma? He feels far too important to simply appear in a few side quests here and there. I imagine he deserves a much larger narrative arc, especially because he seems to remember us with a certain admiration. In other words, I hope we've given him more reasons to know us than just a few quick side quests in public dungeons. I mean, he's an incredibly important lore character, a member of the Imperial Mananauts. It would be wise to build more meaningful stories around him.
Then there's Darien Gautier, who is an EXTREMELY important character to ESO as a whole. Honestly, I'd say he's one of the most important characters in the entire game. He plays a major role in the Covenant storyline, the Main Quest (receiving a level of attention that no member of the Aldmeri Dominion or Ebonheart Pact really gets), Summerset, and now Solstice. Yet his future also remains unresolved.
I understand that the current vision is "Tales of Tamriel"... standalone stories and all that. But I'd really like to see clearer connections between storylines going forward. Few things felt as exciting in ESO as the period between 2015 and 2017, when we knew we were heading toward Morrowind because the game was actively building tension: the Prophet appearing at the end of Orsinium, Naryu's Dark Brotherhood questline foreshadowing the entire Morrowind storyline, and so on.
I genuinely miss those connections and the sense of anticipation that ESO used to create. And I'm not talking about a single line of dialogue that vaguely hints at future content... not that. Haha.
Anyway, that's my little rant (or perhaps my plea) for the kind of direction I'd like to see the game take moving forward. Truthfully, I'm satisfied with almost everything right now, except for the overall storytelling (wich i really expect an upgrade... I already expressed my dissatisfaction with the Sheogorath story in the PTS session.).
Please remember the game you've written. It has SO MANY interesting loose ends, from Fallinesti to numerous unresolved storylines waiting to be explored!
