Error 201 is usually caused by your computer disconnecting from ESO. Either from needing a repair, a program in your computer, or from a firewall in your computer causing problems. The only time 201 shows up and it's on ESO's end is when the whole server is down like in an outage. Since the server is fine 201 indicates it is actually your computer.

Its not like error 307 where the server is blame when it loses you and you can't reconnect back for a bit.

I (along with half of my groups) get disconnected with error 200 frequently in Night Market activities. Part of the reason I stopped engaging with the event once I got everything.

Error 200 makes sense as that is a server disconnect issue as well. But OP was talking about 201.

I know, I'm just saying Night Market is unstable. 201 can also be caused by server issues sometimes.

Not really. 200, 303, 301, and 307 is usually server related issues. 99% of the 201 is due to something on your computer blocking ESO or making it difficult. I had firewall issues in the past and it was always 201. The fix on the official site is to make sure your firewalls allow ESO and to do a repair if it keeps happening. Also, quote from Dev when asked on the forums about it.

    Hi Everyone,

The launcher getting stuck, or receiving error 201 is sometimes caused by something blocking a recognizable response from the game servers. This block would be caused by a firewall or anti-virus software. You can try temporarily disabling the firewall or anti-virus protection and seeing if the launcher proceeds.

Due to a recent update in the Windows operating system, you may need to toggle the Windows firewall on and off after disabling any third party firewalls.

Now, if that doesn't resolve things, the next step to take is clearing out the LAN settings as there could be something set interferring with the connection.
    • Connections Tab: Click on the LAN Settings button. When the LAN Settings window appears, uncheck all the boxes and click on OK. Ensure that Automatic configuration Script and Proxy Server are disabled (unchecked)
    • Advanced Tab: Click on the Reset button, and then click on Reset again.
    • You can then restart your computer to ensure that the changes take effect, and then restart the game launcher.

Some modems also have a particular feature (such as Turbo Page) that can prevent certain web-related services from functioning, including game launchers and website logins. You will want to check and make sure that functionality is disabled as well.

One more thing you can try is disabling startup items and services in the system configuration utility, just to be sure another program isn't interfering.
    • Go to the Start Menu
    • In the search box type "MSCONFIG" and hit enter.
    • In the system configuration utility go to the general tab.
    • Choose selective startup and uncheck "Load startup items"
    • Go to the services tab.
    • Check the box next to "hide all microsoft services"
    • In the services list, uncheck the remaining services.
    • Now click APPLY and OK
    • You should be prompted to restart your machine

After rebooting from the selective startup, open the launcher and check whether you are still stuck, or getting error 201 popping up.

PS NA had freezing in both Skittering and Sorrow group dungeons nearly every time I went there. Had to close app and restart and make a dozen tries to get back in before my group finder group might think I just left.

    No other NM problems otherwise.

thank you all for your answers! after i got thrown out it first started with a 300-something error (nor sure which one) and at later tries switched to 201. i could reenter after about 10 mn. just wanted to make sure, that server was not down.

managed to complete sorrow dungeon the next day, luckily.
