NM Faction contest

Statistically, with an event this long, the only parameter that influences which faction wins, is the number of faction members.
So, to determine the 'real' winner, at the end of the event the total faction favor should be divided by the number of faction members.
That's the only result that makes sense.

Let me guess: Not in the 1000 Eyes and wants to win.

Yes. What confuses me is why ZOS coulden't figure out such a simple ting.
Really an absurd design error it's hard to even explain.

It's too late for this particular campaign but i hope ZOS will implement this simple change for the next one.

ZOS seemingly tried to address this by having the amount of favour you would get from dropped orbs vary with how well your faction was doing in the "race": 5 for 1st place, 15 for 2nd, and 30 for 3rd. But these amounts pale into insignificance compared to the other sources of favour, especially given the issues players can have getting the orbs (short timer, momentum making you jump instead of interact).

I'd love to know what the actual player numbers in each faction are; I'm guessing that they're in roughly the same ratio as the faction scores.

The should remove the "competition", and simply make Favour a NM currency for use at the merchants. The latter would also give players a reason to farm Favour.

Your suggestion would absolutely make sense if the Night Market action were a competition between all these players as teams. But it is not.
You can imagine that you compete with other players, but a real friendly competition that is mentioned in the quest is between the factions. These factions are the leaders and their headquarters, not the players.

You can argue that we, the players, joined the factions, so we are part of them... do not trick yourself.
We are those, who were hired to do a dirty, bloody and dangerous work for them. We are mercenaries here, nothing else.
Did you progress in faction hierarchy with that "favor" faction grants you?
Did you see any of the factions' functionaries leave their headquarter and join you on your NM operations shoulder to shoulder?
Did you have any profit from what the faction obtained in the competition? A real profit, not the loot and military shop items, as a mercenary?
No, we do not. We were not even told what the real profit is. "A friendly competition," they said, and you do not need to know any details. Just work for them.

So the winners are not players but factions. And their main way to win is to attract as many players on their side as possible.
1000 Eyes definitely did their homework at it. The result is obvious.
Should they divide their result by the amount of mercenaries involved? Should they reject their win because they gathered the winning army?
I doubt it. It is not a sport but a bloody skirmish for power and something else we do not even know. Just watch those characters carefully. They are not the persons who play sports.

The real winners was the third place faction. The recipe parts and potion parts was selling for massive gold in the market the first few weeks. Nealy everyone in the third place faction made over a million gold selling the parts while the first place faction made very little and mostly lost gold as the parts they needed was 5 to 10 x more expensive then there parts.

Speaking as Eyes faction, absolutely. I think I managed to sell one recipe fragment near the beginning of the event and haven't even tried with ingredients. OTOH, I'll be switching factions in Season Two and those Eyes parts might be worth something then. In the meantime, fragments stack and there's a craft bag for everything else.
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

The competition isn't really a motivator and shouldn't take up so much UI space. It was a nice idea, but not panned out in practice.

Eh honestly the "Faction Winner" really isn't that important.

Everyone gets the Faction Monster set. HOWEVER... only 1st place gets a gold version of it. But the upgrading materials are super cheap, especially with the Zeal of Zenithar coming up, so its really not that big of a deal.

Everyone gets some gold. HOWEVER... lets face it, anyone not in the 1st place faction is getting massive amount of gold from selling reciepe pages, so technically 1st place is not getting more gold then anyone else in the event.

1st and 2nd places get their faction banner furnishings. HOWEVER everyone got their factions banners when they completed the relic requirements for their faction's relic and got the furnishing box. Plus you can already get the large banners from your factions merchant so it isn't something that you cant get unless you win.

So really it isn't even remotely something to stress over not being in the winning faction, and no reason to adjust the rewards because the rewards are just meh.
