Tome Rerolls Griping

It's Tuesday so here's the weekly gripe:

No, I don't want to do a Trial. No I don't want to do an Arena. No, I don't want to capture a keep. No, I don't want to capture a district. OK, I can live with that. No, I don't want an Arena. No, I don't want to capture a keep. No, I don't want to do a Trial. OK, I can live with that. No, I don't want to capture a keep. No, I don't want to capture a district. No, I don't want to do a Trial. Out of rerolls.

And Update 50 is going to charge me gold (up to 10K per reroll) for additionals because the game cannot accept that "No" means "No"? Weekly challenges still need work.
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

Heh, sounds like you got the same set of 'not gonna do' tasks that I got. ;)

I don’t understand why the range of activities is so limited.

What’s the point of having this absolutely massive game, but only using a small handful of things for the challenges?

This happened to me today too. I used 9 rerolls today because two of my rerolls kept giving the the same things I was trying to reroll out of.

There must be a system to not reassign the same task we've just opted out of.

Would be nice if we could select what kind of activities we want. Dungeons, open-world stuff, PVP, etc, so we could select the kind of activities we enjoy with it.

I don't think that the range of activities is particularly limited (boring stuff, maybe, but there is variety), but the RNG on rerolls seems to heavily favor the activities that I don't do (Trials, Arenas, and PvP).

Even Endeavors were more varied than this.

Yeah, they should add a simple menu that you can check the activity categories that are acceptable and you only get one from those sets. If I don't check Trials, PVP, group dungeons etc, then I never get them. No point in giving them to me because even if I run out of rerolls, I am not doing them. Ever. And there are no rewards they are likely to put on the reward track that would motivate me to do them.

Now they are going to charge for these tasks? Why would they need to do that when they convert the extra points to gold. I'm super confused as to what the motivation is here.

No. You still get your five rerolls per week, but you will be charged gold for more. It starts at 500, but scales up to 10K pretty quickly.

Got it ok, that's good they will keep the free. I don't know how long I keep on the same tasks every week but will see.

My point is that ZoS has limited themselves within those categories.

For example, there are something like four world bosses tasked. Two of those are in Wrothgar, where there are six world bosses linked to dailies - so four of them aren't relevant. There's "complete a trial", but only one task linked to a boss in a trial. There's collect materials, but nothing else related to crafting. There's capture a zone in Imperial City, but nothing else related to Imperial City. Same with keep capture in Cyrodiil.

There's nothing else related to crafting, nor housing, no specific tasks related to any quests, or the majority of world bosses or daily quests, there's nothing related to fishing, or achievements, the antiquities tasks relate only to three entry-level items, there's no mats collection quest linked to jewellery, there's nothing related to scribing at all, there's only one set of zone-specific tasks out of dozens of zones, the Daedra kill quest is broad when it could be specific, and the antronach kill quest still doesn't work properly.

The game is huge. The list of tasks available is not.

Agreed. I believe there's only 25 possible tasks? That's too short for a season that lasts 3 months. I'm having to re-roll ones I've already done 6-7 times. The potential pool for a season needs to be at least doubled, potentially tripled.

    I think you're right.

I actually really love what they've done with Tomes. It's one of the few things I have seen recently from ZoS that I believe is really on the right track. I think two relatively easy changes could make it so much better:-

    1. Add in far more variety to the task pool - as you say, double or even triple the task list - or simply refresh them part-way through the season.
    2. Be prepared to add additional bonus pages later in the cycle, as giving people more options to spend their points will inevitably be better than closing the Tome while people have lots of excess points. I know they will be converted into gold, but the amount is nominal - not really worthwhile. My main account has a ton of points & I've already bought literally everything.

I'll keep my fingers crossed :)

Happens too often. I think if someone uses a reroll it should be shuffled to the end of the line and removed until all the other options are cycled through.

Yeah, definitely agree on that. There isn't much which can be done about the challenges which show up in the weekly refresh; those are as they are unless some sort of "rank activity types in order of preference" system were added. But saying "no" to an activity type should move that activity to the back of the line for any other rerolls, which would weight other activities more heavily for other rerolls.

Agreed. This is a solution to the problem that, to me anyway, sounds fairly easy to program for.

I'm thinking that this was the first tome, so it's the first time they're seeing how quickly tome points are earned, and what tasks are popular, etc. (sure, there was the PTS, but that's not the entire active playerbase). They also get to see what people like/don't like. I'm sure ZOS knew they'd have to make changes based on how things went. I'll be curious to see if changes will come with season 1, or if we'll have to wait longer. I'll be really surprised if they don't make any changes at all.

There were no changes to the weekly stuff when the U50 Tome went up on PTS. If changes are in the pipeline, they were not showing up in the incrementals, but that does not preclude them being there when U50 actually gets here. That one will be a incremental from what was there on PTS5, but you will get the option to pay gold for any rerolls beyond the five free weeklies.

Hopefully they'll look at increasing the possible challenges in season 2, then. I heard that most of the challenges for season 1 are thieves guild related (given the story content). That's going to get boring quickly too. Really, for a 3-month period, it's crazy to have only 25 possible challenges. As said upthread, the game is huge now, with a lot to do.

I like the concept of the tomes, but I wasn't expecting the challenge part to get boring so quickly because of the repetitiveness. I was also expecting a new seasonal challenge every couple of weeks based on the first few, but there hasn't been a new one for a while.

Anyway, the tomes need changes. I can see not doing them for season 1 because that'll give them time to see how an entire season went, but if they push out the same thing in season 2 with no changes, that will be concerning.
