Launcher claims I don't have permission!

I was just playing ESO this morning, I came back to my computer at lunch time and the launcher said it needed to update, so I clicked update. And after that it has insisted that I do not have permission to open the ESO launcher and that I have to contact my administrator. I'm on my personal computer at home, there is no one who could change settings on my computer while I was away from it for a couple of hours. I don't know what to do! I desperately want to finish some things during the Anniversary event. I need this working TODAY. What do I do? I tried restarting my computer, it didn't help. I tried redownloading the game but when I click the 'set up' file that comes out of the zip file that it downloaded, it just does this little 'downloading installer components' and then nothing happens, there are no new files to be found anywhere. I don't know what to do!!!!!! Heeeelllppp!!!

sounds like write permissions issues. if you were on linux i would give you a chown command to remedy that. on windows i have no idea... sorry.

I'm on an apple computer. 2019 Mac OS Big Sur 11.6 with an intel core processor. So far I haven't had issues running then game, until whatever this little launcher update did.

The launcher is in the Zenimax Online folder in the Applications folder. I tried removing it and then running the set up file, and it still didn't do anything. I removed the whole Zenimax Online folder and tried running the set up thing and it still didn't do anything.

I keep trying to run the eso set up file, it breifly shows the "Elder Scolls Online Installer" as an application that is running, but as soon as it's done downloading installer components, it just disappears, nothing else happens, the application isn't running anymore, there are no new files, so I can't even reinstall it.

I checked the permissions and it shows I should have permission.

I really need help getting it to redownload the launcher.

Can someone help me figure out why when I run the "setup" app ( installer ) nothing happens?

Strange. On my machine (2022 Mac Studio M1 Max), the launcher was updated too today, but afterwards, it restarted itself without any issues and I was able to start the game, just like always...

So I discovered a folder called selfupdate in which there was an item that had a long name of random letters and numbers and an icon that looked like the eso symbol. It turned out to function as the launcher, but when activated from that location it said I needed to download the whole game over again. I later discovered that if I moved it into the folder where the launcher is supposed to be, then it works just fine and recognizes all the game files that are already there. So I have been able to play the game like normal for the past month.

However, today at some point the launcher popped up a little notification telling me it had detected an update. This seemed kind of random to me, since it wasn't directly after normal maintenance and sure enough my misgivings were founded. I tried just closing it and then opening it up again and when I did so it appeared to perform an update but when it finished whatever it was doing it closed and gave me a notification that the launcher had unexpectedly quit. So I double clicked on it again, and it told me I didn't have permission to open this application, exactly the same as the issue I had before. So I went looking for that selfupdate folder and lo and behold there was a new random-character named file in there that turned out to be a working version of the launcher. It doesn't have the same random name as the previous one, but at least it works.

I'm glad there seems to be a built in solution, but I wonder how many people are experiencing this and how many have figured out this solution. Why is it doing this faulty launcher update thing in the first place?
