I sank loads of hours into the Night Market; the event is amazing, here’s how it can improve

The Night Market is amazing. I had a lot of fun so far. I also did like 90% of what the event offered.

The problem: there’s way too much friction. It takes a lot of time and effort to get used to how the event works. The flow of the event is not organic. It feels hard (in a bad way) to start and make your progress.

The map is very confusing, mechanic to progress is way too complex, the blocked areas (without the artifacts) is unnecessarily annoying.

The Night Market in my opinion should be all about dopamine. The idea of an arena map for 12+ people, filled with bosses and crazy buffs/debuffs, it makes a lot of sense in my head to be a huge source of dopamine.

Currently, the dopamine exists and I had a lot of it. But it is heavily restricted and “gated”.

I like to compare it to the Infinite Archive. The Infinite Archive has a similiar concept (but for one or two players). Yet, the IA gives a lot more dopamine than the NM.

Why is that:

1. Unnecessary Friction: it’s too hard to do things that should be really simple, like walking on the map, exploring, getting back to where you died, progressing the bosses page, getting to the terraces, returning to the main square, finding out in which map your group is, when do the events spawn (!). Finding a group is not organic (the only reasonable way to find a group is through group finder). If you don’t have a build built with more resistance, you won’t enjoy the event.

2. Not enough rewards (it specially lacks a currency - to pop like crazy at your screen). The coolest thing in Imperial City, Infinite Archive and Cyrodiil is numbers going up (and hoarding the big fortune). We need currencies to drop (it doesn’t need to necessarily be a currency exclusive to the event) AND more stuff to acquire. Right now, there’s absolutely no incentive to push past the daily quests. And if you reach the milestones (10.000 favor, dungeons done, trial done, golden pursuit done, achievements done), there’s nothing else to pursue. The loop HAS to be endless.

3. There’s room for more crazy, action packed stuff and there should be less puzzle/minigames. The minigames are so dissonant to the other part of NM (bossing and killing stuff). They feel out of place and instantly boring. I get that it’s optional and I appreciate the effort the devs put into developing these but I honestly feel they don’t go well with the rest of the event. IMO we should have more crazy buffs for killing bosses and participating in the skirmishes, like the visions and verses from the IA. I also believe there’s room for more crazy, random encounters, specially when you are in the middle of fights with the regular bosses.

Also, minor complaint: I also believe that the whole dungeon-trial thing is very out of place. They are basically rooms with bosses. Why not place them in the actual districts? Make the gilded and opulent bosses spawn in the actual map and available to everyone that shows up (or at least that have the key). (I understand that removing the trial and the dungeons messes with the whole concept of the event but I find it still needed to share this opinion here)

SO. TLDR: I believe the Night Market is (or should be) all about dopamine. It needs to be faster, more thrilling, more straightforward in the future.
Advocating for crown crates to return to the store of adult Brazilians.

I am an adult, I want to spend the money I earn on crown crates.

ZOS can comply with Brazil's legislation and still sell crown crates to adults.

I agree with most of what you said here.
    • About second point. The loop has to be endless yes, but the initial hype seems died out and many people farmed the fragments for the favor recipe and it does not cost much now. So farming the fragments, and then crafting favor potions does not look so profitable right now. I have finished everything related to Night Market and i am only helping out my raid guild and my friend for some achievements. Other than that nothing would make me go back there for now, so only social aspect of the game is keeps me returned.

They should certainly broaden the loot table of the bosses, and add some loot to the small enemies. Make every possible furnishing plan drops from bosses and adds. Maybe attach them to certain districts so people can be spread. Maybe add more crafting items to the table, Aetherial Dust, upgrade materials, and furnishing crafting materials. So i can casually make a group and keep farming for a chance of good loot.

    • I have never understood why puzzles are right next to mobs or other things. They look out of place, i think each type of puzzle should be behind a door, governed by a Daedric entity or someone to give those puzzles a lore-abiding reason of existence. About Daring Races similar thing can be said and only the The Parch Daring Race seems okay, it is behind doors and does not disturb the flood of combat.

About keys i can also give in here.

If they change how keys work that ends up players not needing to kill the bosses in the districts will result in less engagement. Because the loot we get from bosses is mediocre, i only kill them for keys or dailies and after reaching 10 000 favors and finishing quest achievements you really do not need to keep farming. Apart from keys of course in this current iteration.

Maybe they can make favor as a new currency for Night Market, so i can spend it for unique loot or materials. Then if i want to farm materials via favors, i will surely spend more time in the districts regardless keys.

Other thing is that, they can make argent bosses drop key fragments, two for reach district and then i spend some favor or some other material to craft it for Dungeon keys, and then same process for Opulent Ordeal key. In this case i can stock up on key fragments, help as many people as i want by spending my faction favor.

There are many similar requests about how keys should be reworked. I think developers can read and compile all of this and came back to us with a poll of possible rework or developers can say that, this is how we want this, and no rework.

This makes it VERY HARD for some of us to do things and makes it quite unlikely to reach the 10K goal for the max reward.

I have played with pick up groups so far and finally got all the "get through the blocks" items, largely because one such group was methodically hitting the bosses for the drops.

Having those blocks, like the wind wall ones, that you can only get through later makes it really hard for those starting off. Yeah, nice to get through, but the one where you have to go past 3-4 doors to hit one area, often dying to the mobs along the way, is very frustrating.

But the fact that you and I assume many like you are not interested more shows it was not the claimed success. Yeah, hot/fun/whatever for a time, but we are only a few weeks in (and only a few remain) but it is blocked off for many.
