Tamriel Tomes Feel like a Tomb

I effectively finished the Tomes side of the season a couple of weeks ago. With ESO Plus I started with 6000 Tomes from caches, then did all 3 season challenges plus the weeklys and ended up around 11,000 points earned.

At this point I’ve picked up pretty much everything from the track that interests me, and now the weekly quests are just stacking up because there’s no real reason for me to go back into Tomes. The system feels like it runs out of meaningful rewards very quickly if you engage with it heavily.

yeah well if you pay to unlock it...like yeah...itlll be unlocked and there wont be anything to do. paying months of subs doesnt seem like "engaging" with it to me.

I've been paying for plus for years its not my fault they do this.

I agree with you OP. Over time these challenges will become tedious chores. I have not done anymore challenges cos i already completed all my pages, even the bonus ones. I've too busy with night market anyway.

My question to you is what challenges would you like to see for tomes? Im trying to think of some new ones but im struggling cos there's only so many tasks in eso we could do that are alrsady part of the game.

I'd be pleased to see what I think would be a fairly simple change to rerolls: When you drop a task via reroll, the game remembers that you don't like that task for the next 10 minutes. That way you won't get the same task again during a 'reroll seession' where you might reroll 2 or 3 tasks.

I happily console myself that, though I have been able to do 5/5 weekly tasks so far (despite my notable list of 'won't do' activities), it won't really hurt anything if on a given week, I get 1 or 2 that I won't do. Sort of like endeavors - usually I could get 3/3 every day but no big deal when I couldn't find 3 of the choices that were acceptable.

One thing that has not and will not change is my preferences. I have almost 15,000 hours of ESO playtime and know with total certainty which activities I will do and which I won't. There are no rewards in Tamriel that will ever coax me into an activity that I know I don't enjoy.

All I pray for is multiple challenges of same thing. I had 3 get one keep in pvp and it was great. I have used up all my surveys and now am faced with miserably rude people who slide in front of you to take that last node I need. Gathering has become the most competitive activity in the game now

I wish I could just not do them as I am in good shape gold wise and can only get useless stuff I haven't chosen from tome book or gold at some unknown exchange rate.

But they sit there teasing me to do them.

It is the tomb of my every hope. And of fun.

I hate the list, and the drudgery, and the feeling it is hanging over my head- however irrational that is. (But irrationality is what game designers are chasing after all, it keeps us logging in and spending).

The choices are boring and repetitive. I'm not doing the same things over and over every week, that's not fun. That's not gaming to me. This game is big enough to do different things week on week and that's how I play. I roam to different zones, I do different new bosses, dungeons I haven't been to in ages.

I'm doing my best to ignore the whole thing. And I will confess that best has included wandering off from eso for greener playing fields, for weeks on end, which I've not done for a long time.

I know it's just a rebooted weekly endeavors, which i happily ignored although i often did the dailies- but it's also not, somehow. It's way more insidious into my eso life. I logged in to a world where nothing made me do anything, I did whatever I wanted, i was away from work, from domestics, chores, children- and now in eso there's a list hanging over my head, with a clock counting down plastered right over the top, and I hate it.

Definitely need more variety. I've received some of the same ones over and over again, and there are a few I've never seen. How many times do I have to collect 15 wood logs or do the same three dungeons?

Also, and this is too late for feedback, but the first tome should have been released with infinite rerolls, given that the gold option wasn't available. I'm stuck with one I'll never do this week because I ran out of rerolls. Two of my original 5 were trial ones, and one was PvP, so three bad ones. I had to reroll all, and kept getting trial ones/duplicates. When I ran out of rerolls, 4/5 challenges were okay but I'm stuck with a trial one I'll never do. So now I have less stuff to do this week, plus I'll have a useless challenge carrying over week to week until the season ends.

Personally I think one thing that would help is having the option to delete a challenge (even after it's been partially completed) if you're sure you're never going to do it. Not reroll it to something else, I understand why that's limited, I mean just delete it out the list with no replacement, but freeing up space for something else to be added the next week, so no one is stuck with a challenge they're never going to complete because they're not allowed or can't afford to reroll it.

    Yes, exactly.

I really wish they'd just let us select from a list every week. That way we could do stuff we enjoy, or stuff that we think will complete naturally as we play, rather than feeling like we have a list of chores to do before we can get to the activities we really want to be doing. Forget about all this reroll nonsense, duplicates, etc. Just let us choose our challenges every week, or let us favourite challenges so they have a much greater chance of showing up.

I don't know why everything has to be overcomplicated in this game, and why everything's designed to try to get us to do stuff we don't enjoy. Yes, there are rerolls, but limited rerolls and increasing gold cost when it's available are unnecessary. If we can't choose what to do, at least don't penalize us for trying to get five challenges we can live with. Who thought that was a good idea, penalizing players for trying to find challenges they'll enjoy? Let us do what we enjoy and we'll spend more time in game, not less.

Actually this is a great idea. If i could choose myself from a long list, 'tick 5' or whatever, I would feel back in control of this. It's the obligation and loss of control that's the problem.

With weekly endeavors, it was so insanely long to earn seals, it was just not something I thought about.

I've honestly appreciated getting duplicates of things. If I'm going to engage with the system, I'd rather limit the time investment honestly.

I like the weekly tasks, and I make sure to do them every week. I will keep doing some of them even though I have unlocked every page of the tome and already have 2k saved up for next season.

I had real life intervene and missed quite a few days; it was nice that things I'd started carried over rather than disappearing incomplete. The reroll feature is nice too. I'm still trying to calibrate how many I need to do if I want to get everything I want during the full time available, but pretty sure that will involve not completing a full set of repeatable tasks every week. So personally, I feel like I need more time to adjust to these tomes.
