I joined three Skirmish groups yesterday, all fails--some of them comically so.

I dropped group, ported to a guildie in NM simply to change instances, and wandered into a district to solo some quests. I got to the center and found a skirmish in progress, jumped in, and finally got one done for the day.

Sometime sadly and sometimes happily, you really never know how good a PUG group is going to be until you're in it. When it comes to the Parch skirmish in particular, you probably want two full raid groups unless you're sure you're with strong players.

There are a few bugs with the HUD UI that confuse people about skirmish timers.

    1. Sometimes two skirmishes are displayed as being near to open at the same time.
It is a bug. Only one skirmish in the instance (plaza+3districts) can be active at a time.
If you're in the skirmish area that is supposed to be active, but it is not, it is a good idea to send a scout to the second "active" distict to check.

    2. If you jumped on your guildmate or groupmate, your HUD can show you wrong information about skirmish timers and activations. I guess it is from the old layer where you've been. Even the skirmish icon with swords on the map can be a fake.
It is good to trust the group leader who created a GF request for the active skirmish. If they sit in this instance for some time, they have a proper timer.
Because of that it is a good idea to notify your groupmates about the time left, if you're a group leader. Players who joined may be confused by wrong info, so just let them know what happens.

I hope devs will fix it sooner or later.

A good way to get skirmishes done is just to throw more people at it. Create a skirmish group and then either ask someone to leave and make a 2nd one or do so yourself when they all port in.

The calamties being able to jump in make them difficult to do with only 1 group. Not impossible but both the skirmish and calamity are trial level bosses so bringing 2 trial size groups to defeat the skirmishes greatly increases the odds of success.

In one of my failed groups yesterday, I tried twice to convince the leader to take out the Duneripper before the trial started. He never even responded to the recommendation. Guess what happens when your tanks get eaten.

Or just kill the Calamitous first, away from the Skirmish.

Just a heads up to some, there is an achievement for finishing a skirmis while engaged with a calamitous.

Just a heads up to some, there is an achievement for finishing a skirmis while engaged with a calamitous.

Clarification: These Achievements only apply to the Skittering Precinct and Sorrow’s Friend.

There is no similar one for the Parched:
by system - no Achievement listing, and
by content - it is not possible to engage both at the same time (Dunegorger fight is in its own separate sub-area)
