How do you do this Achievement?

I've seen posts online say "Oh just kill the spider before he pulls in the target"

I've been in a lot of groups doing that dungeon, people that have the Gatekeeper level DPS that satisfy Perfect Trials HM Trifectas, and none of them have ever killed that spider before it either reels someone in, or before the person dies from the DoT applied to them from being dragged.

And I've tried various things to satisfy the conditions of the Achievement.

To include:
  1. Trying to Synergize the dragged person.
  2. Trying to throw a hoarvar ball at the dragged person.
  3. Throwing a Hoarvar ball at the spider while it's reeling in.

I've since gotten one completion on the Achievement since I've started today, I've but no idea what I did to satisfy that, as again no one has ever been freed, or survived being eaten or the dragged AoE.

    You can start damaging the spider before it even starts pulling the person.

    I think it also pulls the person furthest from them, so two damage dealers can quickly go to the spider, and third person can go away from the spider, giving damage dealers more time to kill it.

    we did it like this: 2 tanks, 2 dds. i was like an off tank, and i stayed as far from the spider as possible. with my 45k hp, 30k resist, i could survive the pull while the dds burned the spider. it was so easy. we had several wipes before that with a typical group setup, 1t 1h 2dd. but when i swapped to tank build, it worked first try

    They have the hoarvar gimmick in the fight? What purpose does that serve?

    None by all my accounts. If that's their intended method, that's a poor design choice, why do it that way? Get rid of the hoarvar.

    At first I figured it had something to do with the red spectral spider you find in the skittering. Where it grabs someone in the same manner and then someone else grapples through the line to break it. Why not have that in the fight?

    But then I'm exploring the boss zone, and there's no grapple spots. Then I thought back to the long standing gimmick of the Hoarvar Ball deleting webs in various dungeons originating in Maelstrom. That didn't work. Tried chucking it at the spider, and the boss too. Nothing. That hoarvar serves zero purpose in that fight.

    You use the Hoarvar on the boss when it's enraged IIRC.

    it for the boss , gives a nasty debuff and pulls it out of enragement , ive gotten 2/3 done having the healer take the web dps focuses on spider , its best if your healer lays out ground heals as covers with HOTS just before the pull starts so as they dont die , and your tank debuffs the spider but each team will have their own way

    Yeah, I just tanked this last night, and the thing is, DPS and healers don't even last long enough to make it to the spider to die. The spider's pull does damage, and each tick, about once every two seconds, does about 20%-30% of the average DPS' max HP. With DPS also having to contend with regular damage from adds, it just seems like a free player kill whenever it happens. I don't know what Zenimax intended for this fight; I'm under the impression player deaths should be a punishment for *** a mechanic up, not a reliable and inevitable feature in a boss fight. This sucked. It wasn't fun, and it didn't feel skill based. There's nothing I hate more as a tank than watching my team die due to factors beyond my control. It makes me feel useless and weak. But then, that's part and parcel of ESO's combat design. Tanks aren't here to protect anyone. We exist just to check the box that enables the content to happen.

    Both DDs save ults for the spider.
    Be aware and do it quite after the spider spawns. After that you just need to finish the job.
    Be careful with 3 DD, 3 ults can kill the spider before it starts pulling.
