do you ever use cp 150 gear vs cp 160 gear

we all know that cp 160 gear is the highest level gear you can acquire but did you notice that if you craft gear the mat usage difference between cp 150 and 160? Have you ever thought: wow i'm new and low on mats and make cp 150 gear because it's almost as good but uses waaaay fewer mats?

just curious

Yeah like 10 years ago, sure. CP150 gear is just fine for running around questing. Now that I have a million bazillion of everything I make everything CP160 purple, or gold if I decide I like the set enough to keep it around for a while.

From the materials needed curve perspective, it's a significant jump, but from the abundance of materials available, it's meaningless for the most part. And if it's a problem for some, they're so cheap in Guilds' Markets, that it's not a concern overall.

I absolutely made do with 150cp gear for ages when I first started. I didn't do writs til after Homestead (because back then level 1 needed 9 items each, so I assumed the rest were as bad and never started) and the mats weren't easy to come by because they were only from IC originally, then other DLC zones as they were eventually added. I just couldn't manage 10x more for 160cp. I probably couldn't manage 150cp for a while either tho!

I was mostly doing overland/questing back then but don't remember things being noticeably easier when I finally upgraded.

Of course it's much easier to get gear now, with clear rules about where things drop. I can't honestly say I'd make the same decision again now

No, never did once I hit cp160 on my first character. I kept up with crafting on my first character and as soon as I hit cp160 I crafted a cp160 gear, same for every alt since then as soon as they hit lvl 50.

No, but I've never understood the jump in materials needed. Especially for jewelry, which is tiny.

Never. IMO its a pointless remnant of the game and should just be removed after you hit the CP cap. Even people who have CP don't make lower than CP 160 gear - they just wait until they hit 160 to get permanent gear. If they don't know to do this, this is the advice we give them as veteran players.

The amount of times I craft something and upgrade it, then go to enchant it, before realising it's CP 150, is way too many

When I started playing, for the first years when I was not much dedicated I used to craft CP150, also because I liked to experiment back then and try and change gear often, so it would be a waste and unsustainable to make everything CP160.

I now have thousands of every CP160 mat but I hoard them and never sell them "just in case".

What I discovered, btw, is that nowadays I find myself using Transmute Crystals more than crafting mats.

I don't know why you would run CP150 gear. Mats are plentiful. Plus, top level glyphs only work on CP160 gear.

I'm sure its fine to use questing, but for the most part, crafted gear is there to use for PVP and some group PVE content. You would be intentionally gimping your build with CP150, all just to save mats.

Only for Master Writs; some ask for CP150 and others ask for CP160. I've almost certainly equipped and used CP150 gear, but by the time any character was able to craft it, they'd been harvesting top-tier mats long enough that the extra needed for CP160 was barely a drop in the bucket.
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.
