ESO+ and 12 tokens to get the premium+plus tome Problem

Cannot get the premium+bonus with my ESO+.

I paid a 12 months sub several months ago, only got 6 tokens out of 12, I need 12 to make the free buy possible.

When my ESO+ ends, I will buy 12 months again, and the 6 tokens will serve NO purpose because I will get 12.

If I only subscribe 6 months to catch up the 6 tokens I already have....then I spend more money per month than I would like.

The Solution is :

If you purchase the Premium (not Bonus), the option to upgrade the Tome remains available. If it's not currently possible to use six tokens to do that upgrade (neither of my accounts has six tokens and I can't check it), then it would be nice if were made possible. I think tokens for Premium is probably a bit much of an ask, but six for a Bonus upgrade isn't.
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

I thought that those tokens did not expire?

So that you could spend the 12 tokens for a free Premium + Bonuses Tamriel Tome for what ever Season you wanted.

That’s correct, but if you only get the year’s worth of sub at a time, you always leave the extra tokens doing nothing. There’s nothing to get with less than 12 tokens. The only way to make it even out is to take a 6-month sub in this case. The only way in mine is to take a 6-month sub and then 3 1-month subs, but 1) I’m not going to go through the hassle of that, and 2) I’m not going to pay the additional cost that would incur. The monthly sub is significantly more than each month of the annual sub (about 25%, iirc?). It means either I let the 3 extra tokens sit unused until the model changes yet again (or the game dies), or I pay extra to make them useful. Not a position that feels good as a consumer.

The retroactive tokens for January through March end up being very…token.

The problem OP is saying is that they will always get tokens in bundles of 12, and 12 are needed for the free tome. As such, the 6 they will always have 6 left over.

There isn’t anything to do about that though, besides do one 6-month sub. It would have been better if the tokens were delivered one at a time on the last day of the month so we would feel like we were earning them by playing (and then we wouldn’t perpetually have a remainder)

I’m taking my 6 extras as not really existing since they essentially don’t. But I do know streamers sometimes do plus giveaways, so if I’m lucky enough to win some of those, then I’ll increment one at a time. Or, if I’m dissatisfied with the direction of ESO, then I might take some time off from my sub.

I actually cancelled my sub last year because of the travesty that was 2025, and there still isn’t really anything drawing me this year. But the communication is vastly better and I am enjoying the Class Reworks and Mastery thing, so I might restart. I still have a few months to decide.

Do the subs from codes from streamers give tokens? I heard from someone who had several months of this year already covered by such subs that she did not get any retroactive tokens or caches, and I think it was also mentioned here on the forums by others. It seems only paid subs have gotten tokens. I don’t know if this is a mistake, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it weren’t.

ZOS should change things so that 6 tokens allow you to buy the premium without the bonus.

I don’t know, but I assume so. The “month of plus” codes do come with the month worth of Crowns (1650).

My sub runs out July 29, but I think my original date was supposed to end in May or June, so it was extended in the past year by a streamer code. And I got 6 tokens so it does add up properly for a July end date.

If they don’t though, it’s not an issue. Any tokens less than 12 may as well not exist, so I’m not going to care if it’s not a perfect multiple of 12.

You're already getting your 12 way earlier than those of us who sub monthly and (as you pointed out) pay more. If they drip-fed the tokens to you once a month instead of in one lump you'd still have 6 months to wait, so as well as the financial benefit you gain months on monthlies too.

There was no fair way to do it that wouldn't have ended up with the same problem. They could've backdated it a year so everyone with a yearly sub got their 12, but unless you subbed in April last year you'd still end up with spares, because they still would've had to do exactly what they did and credit partial subs too.

Really they didn't have to backdate it at all. They could've said just new subs will get tokens and leave it at that. Yearly subbers would still have got their 12 earlier than monthly subs without any left over. Instead they tried to do something nice and are getting nothing but complaints.

At the end of the day you still have those 6 extra tokens and nobody knows what will happen in the future. If you have to change to a monthly sub any time you'll be glad you have them.

At least you got tokens dude. Wife's account got none. We have the same sub, paid on the same day with the same card. I got 1 more than I should have and she got zero. I put in a ticket, I'm sure it will get resolved but it's just to show that all this stuff doesn't seem to be well thought out and just kind of slapped together. In my mind, I really thought they would've wanted it to be a home run for their opening season. But it appears, from the horrible information, the crown store reject rewards and the bad planning and implementation around tome caches and tokens, that they're preferring instead to take a Mulligan and have a strong comeback in season 1 if the, well I guess I can't mention it on the forums, is accurate.

I tend to lean towards giving them a break for season 0. This is a huge change and they seem to wanna dial it in.

Thanks for your replies, well as suggested earlier I will probably gonna get a 6 months sub once, so here we go better than keeping the 6 tokens for nothing. Apparently it works as intented and not gonna change as I did read the forum deeper.

Cheers, have a nice week-end all
