Given the lore fans in the community, I don't know why they don't ask for people to send in stories.

    I'm sure they'd get a deluge.

They could say, no promises we will pick any, no promises we won't pick bits out of many, but if we do use your story/parts of your story, we will credit you, and maybe, hey, if we really love your story, we will make an npc of you and put it in the game.

Bet they'd get a ton of good ideas.

The funny thing was that High Isle was, aside from the Trial, considered a major disappointment for most of the players. The Trailer led players to believe there would be naval combat but instead we got a very mediocre storyline that told us that war was bad.
And then as a major feature they gave us that card game that no one plays.

Story wise, yes, it was a big disappointment. That's the point where I just said, "I'm clicking through the stories going forward". It had so many strong elements, but the way it all came together, really just left a sour taste in my mouth.

But aside from that, it was a strong year for that content delivery model:
    • The motifs alone carried that YLS. The game sorely need some straightforward, knightly styles. We got that and some great druid fashion.
    • It was one of the best looking zones since Summerset. The music was incredible too. I still go back to the zone to relax and explore.
    • The dungeons in that YLS were some of the best too. They had fun mechanics and cool tilesets.
    • Dreadsail was the most essential Trial since Cloudrest.
    • ToT, while not everyone's bag, is a feature that's matured pretty well.

So, some of you are saying chapters, with all of the different content they had were formulaic, but a chore list of doing the same thing multiple times is not?

That’s irony at its finest. I guess you like busy work.

What it really boils down to, I guess, is that some people are just playing for the social aspect.

I think too that people are mistaking tomes for what is replacing the chapter model. It is not. Tomes are what's going to make up for lost chapter money. The content they are putting out this year on a seasonal type model is what's replacing chapters. At the end of the year we can judge if what we got is equal or better or not. While this years stuff sounds really interesting and I'm looking forward to it, pound for pound it doesn't match the amount of content we got with chapters. Let's just hope that the content delivers and is as cool as it looks.

From the PTS we now know the amount of story content. From the patch notes: it is all over existing zones in Tamriel and Glenumbra has a modernization pass like the starter zones.

    - Thieves guild: 8 New Story Quests + 1 mythic + new levels of thievery and legerdemain
    - Sheogorath: 6 New Story Quests + new emote + pet
    - Favor quest: ongoing story that unfolds across 20 quests per character
