Press + Hold Accents

Whenever I play ESO the press and hold for character accents overlay is activated. For example, if I move by holding W then the accent window will appear at the bottom left of my screen. The only way I have been able to prevent this is every single time I play the game I must open system settings and slide both Key Repeat Rate and Delay Until Repeat all the way off. These settings do not save. If I shut down my Mac or turn my Magic iTouch Keyboard off then I must slide them back off again.

Does anyone know of any permanent solutions for this?

Check Accessibility: Go to System Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard and ensure "Enable Slow Keys" is turned off. If active, it forces key repeat to stay on.

That setting is already off for me. :/

Confirmed that the following works on Sequoia (and earlier versions back to at least High Sierra).

Open the terminal app and enter the following text at the prompt:
defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool false

You will need to restart any app that was running at the time. To reverse the effect, use the same text but with 'true' instead of 'false'

I tried this at one point but I seem to recall it quit working. My only PC is a 2025 Mac Mini M4 which I believe is currently MacOS 26.2. (I’ll verify and edit this later.)

It's possible that the modified setting got reset by an OS update, in which case you'd just need to reapply it. I hope it's not the case that Apple have deprecated this setting!
