This whole auto buy thing is ridiculous.

Lets say there is only 1 thing I want, that thing is on page #9 I want to get. I get enough Tomes to unlock the pages, and I get the 1 item that I wanted. Now have19,000 Tomes left over, nothing else I want so nothing else I select.

    [...]

Well this is just not how battlepass systems work. On any game.

It's a reward track. And you get all the rewards in the track. You're only picking what order to get them in.

I think the fact the progression is unlocked through a thing called "points" has given many users the false impression that the pass is a shop. It's not a shop. It's a progression path. Points are not a currency, they are XP.

There's also the fact that you don't have to get all the rewards.

I got all the rewards on page 1 except the XP scrolls and then moved on to page 2, where I got all except the potions. Now I'm starting on page 3 and I'm planning to skip the Psijic motif (because I already have it).

If I've understood the system, and the planned corrections, as long as I end the season with fewer than 2000 points I won't have to get any of the rewards I've skipped, and it won't impact on me prioritising the ones I do want. If I have more than 2000 points then the game will automatically use them up, starting with the ones on the highest numberd pages, so unless I have a huge amount of points I'm never going to get those page 1 XP scrolls. That's different to other season passes I've seen where it's a 'track' and you can't reach a later reward until you've earned and collected all the earlier ones along the way.

It's true that the intention is you get the stuff you do want, and a bunch of other random junk along the way (similar to login rewards) but it's not true that you have to get all of the ones leading up to the one you want.

I know most of you already said this but I also opened all my caches at once, AFTER reading the guide on the ESO site specifically about Tome Points with a publication/most recent update date of March 31st. Then, YESTERDAY (APRIL 9th) they did NOT update their Tamriel Tomes Guides, but instead released more information, in what they are calling the "Developer Update" which is the ONLY place I have found on their website mentioning the 2k cap. I do not want to seem difficult. I enjoy the game and am a longtime Elder Scrolls fan but seriously, WHY?!?! I read the "guide" and it was not mentioned. It wasn't until a week after the start of the whole Tome Points thing that they published anything about the rollover in any place that is relatively easy to find and even then they still didn't update the Tamriel Tomes Guide, which supposedly tells you all you need to know to get started with them.

at least they are offering a one time way to get the caches back, basically by converting 2k pts back into caches up to the amount you had previously by filing a support ticket

it doesnt excuse the issue of the excess points and lack of general information on the "fine print" of the tomes, but its at least acknowledging the problem and providing a resolution

Many new Battlepass systems offer you the option to prioritize the items you want, but only to a point. They all require you to unlock most if not all of the items eventually.

Helldivers, Marathon, Arc Raiders... just to name a few.

And they often do this by capping the amount of XP/points/medals/etc you're allowed to hold. It gives the player the message that they're meant to spend them as they go, not hoard them for later items.

The other option is to lock access to future pages based on points spent, not based on points earned. I personally don't prefer this since it can feel a bit forced, but it's an option.

I think ZOS should seriously reconsider adding a cap to Tome Points. 2000, maybe 4000 or 5000 points. I think that measure would be sufficient to give players some freedom while still making it clear that Tome Points are meant to be spent right away.

@ZOS_GinaBruno Wish that ZOS would actually give CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS on how to claim a REFUND on tomes!!!

  • thescrollcat
I appreciate that @ZOS_GinaBruno and the ZOS team are working to revert tome points back to caches for those requesting it. I did put in a ticket for it and was told it would be escalated to the right team. Its been about 10 days since I heard anything from them but I am hopeful. I have 10k points I would like to revert and honestly would love to give back some of those other things I bought thinking I would lose all but 2k so I used them rather than losing them. Either way, hopeful for the points to caches reversion that it sounds like is being offered. @ZOS_GinaBruno is there anything special we should be doing for players wanting to revert those points back to caches? I did a ticket and am now waiting but I know things are continuously changing and updating and would hate to miss the chance because I missed a note somewhere here.

    Thanks for your help!

By the explantions and solutions considered by the devs i cannot understand how this function (in bold letters) is going to work, specially if tome points are indiviual in each season for each tome and "auto-claim" will happen:

    Free Tamriel Tome
Automatically available for free at the start of each Season

    Premium Tamriel Tome (paid)
Grants the ability to unlock the Season’s premium rewards upon purchase
Allows you to continue to progress and unlock rewards from the specific Tome after the Season has ended

Premium + Bonuses Tamriel Tome (paid)
Grants all the unlocks and benefits of the Premium Tome
Grants two caches of Tome Points (each containing 2,000 Tome Points)
These caches are cumulative with other sources, and have no limit or expiration on collecting them
Also instantly grants a unique bonus collectible

Is it something else to spend tome points on? Outside the pages you unlock? ^
I have unlocked the bonus pages bought pretty much everything and still has over 2000 tome points.

Yes I used some eso+ caches but is it any point earning any more?
It looks to me that you can buy less than the tome points needed to unlock bonus ones.
No I don't have the premium ones
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

    Yeah it's a good question.

Buy a tome, lose all but 2k points for next season, and so are all new points split between the old and current tome, making it harder to complete both? So, maybe you buy another one. Then, season 3, you have 3 tomes to work towards, so points are spilt between 3, so even harder to finish all 3.... and so on and so on?

And how is it decided which pages to open. Tome 1 first, so 2 has to wait? Then tome 3 has to wait?

    Tome debt! Argggghhh!!

I'm looking forward to the answers too.
AFAIK, the only source of the auto-redeeming is from a comment Gina made on Reddit regarding expiring points. It adds a bit of detail, but not enough:

It's not the only source. It's confirmed that this auto buying feature will be in week 3 of the pts.

Hey all. I know we are all frustrated with the cache situation. I just wanted to let you know their support team was able to get me all fixed up and the points reverted back, as a one time only thing, in light of the lack of understanding about caches. It took a minute, and patience was needed, but they are trying to resolve this and make it right. If you had an issue, definitely submit a ticket. Thank you @ZOS_GinaBruno and your team for your help. If you have any tips for the future so players like me don't miss these important details, I am all ears. I thought I read everything I could find, short of the help menu description in game which seemed unnecessary given I had read the Tamriel Tomes Guide ZOS posted on March 31st on the game website. Not asking to be snarky, genuinely wondering so I don't end up in a position like this in the future.

I went to the help section in case there was something I needed to know. But on first login, there could have been a version of the tomes page with added notes and explanations, arrows and text.

This is a really old post of mine that you are quoting. From April 4th. We've had much more communication since then.
