Why was i sweared at for killing mobs i needed for the 1000 kill foes challenge?

I predicted this would happen due to there not being enough foes to kill verses the amount of players in any given zone who do high damage. So yes i was using beam to get the job done as quick as possible. I even did it in 2 goes...going back the next day to same zone to kill the other 500 foes to complete the challenge.
Someone started being abusive on zone chat complaining about the beam ( there were others beaming too). I get it that these type of activities frustrate players but grouping up was not an option as many players are already in their friend groups or partner groups.
In an ideal gamer world everyone would help each other and co-operate but it's just like irl world, most are out for themselves and these challenges can get nasty quite quickly.

No need for swearing at people who are doing a legit game activity.

What folks working the same area should have considered was inviting you to group - since the kills everyone in the group makes count for everyone in the group.

    Two things I'd comment on:

First, you need to be careful that you aren't doing that around one of the WBs (particularly Unfinished Dolmen) where mobs will continue to spawn unless the boss is taken down. Saw that with the whatisname the Mad who spawns clones of himself repeatedly. People just burned him down then sat around waiting for the boss, which is the slower way to do it.

Second, if you're running through between WBs, other people would like to be able to get at least one hit in to share the kill. It's frustrating to see lots of instakills when everyone knows we all need the same thing. If there are multiple players chasing the same pack of wolves, LAs from everyone is going to finish them just as fast as a single beamer, but no-one is then "stealing" kills.

If you're the only one with entire foe train in toe then sure, beam the lot of them. Just be aware if there are other players in the area. Case in point: with endeavours to kill flesh atronachs, if I knew I'd just been near another player, I'd try and kite the next one over to where we'd been so they had a chance to see it and get a shot in.

I think everyone needs to keep in mind that this is a seasonal challenge, intended to be completable over a period of months, rather than within a week or less. There really is no need for players to be rushing to get it done as quickly as possible, and no reason they should be getting so stressed out about it that they're being rude to each other in zone chat, whispers, etc.

I agree with this. The same used to happen with endeavours, especially the ones for killing atronachs. One would spawn and someone would throw all their strongest attacks at it as if they'd somehow fail the challenge if anyone else so much as looked at it, when actually a couple of light attacks would have achieved the same result for them and enabled the other people near by to get credit as well.

Insults are not an appropriate way to deal with that frustration, but it also wouldn't hurt some players to relax a bit and accept they don't always need to throw everything they have at every enemy.

    I agree with this too.

So far I've gotten 4 kills in Wrothgar, and that's because I happened to be passing through on my way somewhere. My plan is to wait until near the end of the season, for 3 reasons:
    1) I might not need to do it at all. I might get enough tome points without wasting time grinding kills.
    2) I'm likely to get more kills along the way before then, and that reduces the time I'd need to spend deliberately grinding it.
    3) There will be far fewer people around and the ones there are less likely to be in such a desperate rush to get it finished.

The problem with the 1000 kills is that it's a seasonal challenge that was dropped into play partway through the season - admittedly just a few days in, but there is no guarantee that there isn't a challenge dropped next week that is more grindy. So whilst technically, yes, we have the rest of the season to complete if there are two or three more equally grindy tasks coming in over the next 6 weeks it just stacks the boredom/monotony of this type of challenge, so i got it out of the way.

I think there is some learning lost from what happened with endevours - making sure that seasonal challenges are up for the season and that we only need to complete 4 out of 10 (or similar) would be a step in the right direction. And to be honest i think the weekly ones would benefit from it - having more challenges offers more flexibilty without using rerolls.

I do know others prefer the direction the tomes have taken, but my gaming time is limited so knowing and forward planning when I clear these bigger seasonal challenges, around the various groups I am part of and other activities is really important - so far none of the Tome challenges have not been parts of the game i regularly play and have needed special effort to complete - I've had nothing to do with trials, nothing to do with trading, nothing to do with housing, nothing to do with TOT, the closest i had was dungeons - and that was spoilt by people needlessly speed running past adds (and reinforced to me why i stopped doing PUG dungeons).

On PS/NA I am able to block players who are abusive on zone chat. There is a limit to how many you can block, but so far that hasn't been a problem for me. There aren't that many players that I feel like I need to block.
