Public Dungeons do not count as "foes" for the new tome challenge? Why?

Why are seasonal challenges not there for the entire season - why are they coming in in subsequent weeks? Will we get new ones next week, what about the last week of the season - will we be expected to do a seasonal challenge in a week?

This is why i pushed through the kill 1000, because there may be a more difficult one next week.

Frozen Fleet in Wrothgar is a good spot, a bunch of Chub Loons and Walruses spawn there as well as a number of enemies like Frost Wraiths, Bears, and Rieklings. I got around 250 kills in maybe 20-ish mins, would have probably gone a bit faster but there were a couple of other people running around there too, like two or three. Still not a bad place at all to use, until they fix the sublocations issue anyway.

Or maybe even better afterward cuz I suspect a lot of people will try relocating to those once the bug is ironed out.

Even if we do nothing but the lowest-points weekly challenges, we'll get enough Tome Points to buy everything in the Free Tier without doing any Seasonals.
I like seasonal challenges coming in later. It gives us more variety. And knowing that more Seasonal challenges will be coming gets the pressure off if you can't do the weeklies right now.

If we play all throughout the season, there shouldn't be any need to do an Added Near The End Seasonal Challenge in a week. But if someone couldn't play for two months for whatever reason, that late Seasonal Challenge might just be enough to get them all the points they need.

    Variety is good.

The News page on Tamriel Tomes specifically says seasonal challenges can be added mid-season:
    Seasonal Challenges
    • Larger challenges that take longer to complete but offer greater rewards
    • Some of these challenges take the full duration of the Season, but others are introduced mid-Season or during unique events, too.

@ZOS_JessicaFolsom Is the 1000 kills a weekly challenge? The way it is presented, it looks like it will be there for the duration of the Season.

Nope, you're right. Just a mistake on my end when I was looking at the bug. It's a Seasonal Challenge. I'm editing my post above to correct it. Thanks for the catch!

Okay awesome, thanks! I was sweating thinking I might need to actually get this done by the end of the week 😅

Im alright with there being large tasks. There is an option to re roll them as well for those who do not. Its ok. Some people can spend more time than others too, I think the Devs understand that.

Im definitely not against them expanding the task options which I think in time they may. There really is an endless list of possibilities. The ones that exist now are a good variety and it tries to reach all types of players.

I find myself doing different things around Tamriel now and that is a good thing. Also, doing thectasks with other people which is great!

You cannot reroll this one because it's seasonal. Only weekly ones can be rerolled.

Seriously, Delves, Group Dungeons, Dungeons, Trials anything you enter from the zone should count. Ludicrous they don’t.

I disagree about anything that drops its own gear sets and doesn't drop the location zone's gear sets-- i.e., group dungeons, trials, and arenas. Delves and public dungeons are a different matter, since they drop the location zone's gear sets and are thus "sub-zones" of the location zone.

Some of these tome challenges are frustrating players rather than making eso fun.

    1. There are not enough overland foes in any given zone to accomodate the number of players doing this particular challenge.
    2. This creates competitiveness rather than community among players that just want to complete the challenge.
    3. Not all players play in large groups. We have diverse playstyles, some play with a few of their friends, some just with their irl partner, some with their bestie and also many play solo. So you get these clusters of people in a zone competing for the same foe kills and that spells " sheer frustration".

I hope this gets a look in thank you

I do wish we'd stop getting tasks, quests, and challenges that pit players against each other for resources.

The current Wrothgar/Hew's/Gold Coast is one, of course, but remember trying to get undead essences, furs, animal fat, and golden sap for Writhing Wall dailies? Ugh!

Given the outcry over that, I'm really surprised to see this type of challenge in Tomes. It's kind of like one team of devs learns these lessons, but the next big project that needs new quests/tasks/challenges are written by a different dev team, and all the lessons learned are lost. Shouldn't this be institutional knowledge by now?

When dealing with things like this, I just picture a room full of people in suits, fingers firmly in ears, going "lalalala not listening" when players tell them they hate competing for kills in zone. Said it before elsewhere, and I say it again, ZOS hears but doesn't listen.
Maythor: honestly we're getting the supermarket treatment here ... shrinkflation with the addition of simply moving things about so they seem fresher .. all the while being told a corporation is our friend :P

If it comes with strings, it ain't free. It isn't a gift with purchase; you were overcharged.

I'm going to add my feedback here because I really want ZOS to receive negative feedback on this "challenge" (an interesting choice of word... it does challenge one's patience, in the least) and will perhaps reconsider in the future.

As others here have expressed, I would have been perfectly happy with it being 1000 enemies in ANY zone. Actually, since this lasts for a few months, make it 5000 enemies in any zone, and I would have been fine with that. You kill enemies as you do other things. This however, is very different, for the following reasons:

    - I had no motivation otherwise to spend significant time in these zones in the near future.
    - Grinding mobs is something I consider deeply unfun.
    - Others doing the same around me with a limited amount of mobs is an extra aggravating factor.

I ended up finishing this in quiet parts of the Gold Coast over two mornings, as I am lucky enough to be able to play during off-hours, but there were still quite a few others around fighting over enemies with me.

If you could already do this in instances, I suppose it would have been slightly better in my opinion, because at least other players would be more spread out, but this does not solve the core problem, which is that unless we have reason otherwise to spend time in these zones, we are expected to do a boring mob grind if we want seals of endeavour and trade bars (these are the only reason I care about the Tomes -- unfortunately I have to earn far more of these tome points than I will ever actually need just to unlock the pages, which is a separate but related problem).

And yes, before anyone comes out and says it, I know I can just ignore the Tomes entirely, and if these sorts of "challenges" continue, I may well end up doing that, despite wanting the currencies to buy cosmetics I like.

    (Edit for typo.)

In LotRO you can end up killing 450 of a just a particular type of enemy within a zone for just single minor achievements. I used to do multiple of those within a day. Doing 1000 over than span of literal months really doesn't strike me as a challenge. Just running around every couple days for a few minutes will easily complete the thing.

And wasn't there a whole other thread about too many tome points being available? So dramatic.

At this point there is nothing they can put into those tomes that won't be complained about by at least one person here. But what can you expect from an entire generation of "writ-crafting add-on using MMO players", when playing is the least of their concerns...

Hi all, just cross-posting in this thread as well. This is confirmed as a bug - it is not intended that monsters in sub-zones not count toward these types of Seasonal Challenges. (I'm adding it to our Known Issues list shortly.)

I have to ask, then, if it is also a bug that non-foes are counting as kills. Nixads were being counted.

Well....Endeavor has chance to encourage people to communicate with other players.
Because it's MMO. For the newbies, it's a precious "chance" to learn that how to behave

Well, people on my very short friend list are no longer playing (and I'm not going to expand it just for the task), and I'm not a member of any guild. So, that would be an instant reroll for me.

Doing a task while in a group (pug) is fine, I have to objection to it. Putting heavier restrictions like "friend" from a friend list or "guild member" are not. That is why I completely ignore farming during the Zenithar event and do writs only.

Probably because people complain then go ahead and do it anyway. I would be morbidly curious to know what % of players ground out the 1k kills on the first day.

Being a MMO does not mean being in groups. It is not a cooperative. MMO simply means that players share a map online. They do not have to be doing the same thing to socialize. Pushing organized group events will push more players out the door.
That the development teams feels a need to pay more points for group content challenges demonstrates that they know people do not want to group.

So the dolmen task I had in the tome gave 60 or so per incursion. To reach the equivalent of the 1500 from the 1000 kill ins Wrothgar you'd need to do 25 incursions. Depending on the zone, the levels of boringness between the tasks is in the same ballpark. There will be tasks for people who like messing around in overland zones, and there will be tasks that will be more compatible with other players. What are the Devs supposed to do? Just wire those tome points to everyone logging in? The next thing is too hard, to easy, too boring, too quick, etc. Sure it is a bit inconvenient that public dungeons and dungeons don't count, but the task is doable, the price is right, it is not so bad. Even by Endeavour or Golden Pursuit standards this isn't too bad.
So everyone is going to moan about it and solve it within 4 days anyway, when it could have easily been spread out to very comfortable levels of effort.

I haven’t seen this one yet, but if it comes up for me, I’ll be re-rolling it because it would be hard for me to coordinate enough time with someone else in a week to run 30 pledges. Or is this a seasonal?

Do we have any idea of a rough timeline on when this issue will be fixed? I have 2 weeklies that line up with Wrothgar very nicely (complete arenas and wrothgar public dungeon group event). I know unfinished ones carry on to the next week apparently, but I prefer to get it done during the week they come out. Also if they transfer to next week, do we still get new ones added as extra?
