Its doubtful zos will make the next 2 years let alone 30. Things are changing and games arent a priority at microsoft anymore for reasons. The game has made some money over time but is still a generally poor performer. It wont take much for the axe to fall again. Theres no point to upgrade the engine when you can see the sun setting. If i was workin at zos and i wasnt in the protected crowd id be moving on lol. Not that theres anywhere to move on to.

Are there any public financial reports that breakdown game performance? I know other MMOs like Black Desert you can see exactly what it is making.

Since the acquisition I haven't been able to figure out ESO's financials, but hopefully it is still doing relatively well.

    YES!
Dropping out the support for older gen. consoles has been my wish for a long time because that support is one of the major reasons that is keeping ESO from updating things like adding more furnishing slots beyond 700. I also believe that the support for older gen. consoles is also a reason for many technical issues that ESO faces all the time. Even pure PC games tend to update their minimum system requirements and while doing that they tend to note, that older systems might not be able to run the game anymore so dropping the support. That is just how things work and I see no reason to keep supporting outdated systems. I know ESO would lose some part of the player base but it is my honest and educated believe that this number is quite trivial. Most of those dropping out players would eventually invest that few hundred euros/dollars to newer used console I know this. Once a gamer...

After all that: YES. By all means update the engine. They already said they have the willingness to see another 10 years for ESO and even more! So to keep on that road, all kinds of updates would be welcome. Seems like no real threatening competition is arriving to mmorpg genre for some years except AOC but that game is having already its own difficulties, so I think ESO would make a great deal in this to hold its place in the genre.

I doubt they would go for this because it is a major investment both money and time, but we can always hope. At least we will get some small graphical updates that are allowed by the current engine.
