putting it out there now: night market time limit

i know night market is not available yet, but why in gods name is this event zone going to be limited duration when there will be bother monster set gear AND mythic leads that will ONLY be obtainable from this event zone when its active?

yes we have the recreation system now, but it will be awful having to try to farm up 5 leads for a mythic, 9 monster helms, and 9 monster shoulders in a roughly 7 week period (april 29-june 17)? there should absolutely not be any gear or antiquity leads tied into a limited time zone
  • anyone who missed out on obtaining those will be SOL until the event zone is reopened for one
  • this could create a situation in the future where if something "good" is released from a temporary zone, and someone misses out on it, they could be severely disadvantaged in certain content (such as pvp) because they were not around during the event and would have to wait until the next time it came around
  • tying antiquity leads into a temporary event will lead to a situation where people who like to finish codex entries will not be able to work on them at all until the event zone is opened back up

i know the whole thing is not available yet, but this just screams bad design/decision making to me, its quite a bit different than someone missing out on purely cosmetic items such as most of the holiday related achievements and associated collectibles as gear actively influences your character and combat

All I will say is this, the leads for whatever mythic exists within the night market had better drop like candy.

They have said the leads will drop in other places when the Night Market is inactive, so the Mythic is not time limited.

The monster sets are not only tied to the night market, but also tied to specific factions, so you can only get one per iteration of the Night Market.

I would hope that if they do wind up removing the Night Market after the initial three rounds (so everyone has a chance to get stuff from each Faction at least once) that they would introduce some sort of system or "market" where all the Collectibles, including the Night Den, is made available. Maybe put them in the permanent offerings of the Bazaar?

that would be nice on the mythic

and the thing with monster sets seems actually worse if thats how it will work, unless joining a faction is per character and not per account so you could earn towards all 3 factions with during one event

regardless, its still a poorly thought out idea to incorporate set gear into a limited event with no alternative method to earn it

It is per account, and yeah I don't know why they think that's a good but last I saw there was no indication this was something they were considering changing.

thats why i figured i would start a discussion now on how bad it was that its a limited time event

when i initially read up on the night market, i assumed it was an event zone because it was like some kind of new zone that was instanced to have this specific faction event thing, a pseudo cyro if it were even if no pvp was involved

but when i saw it was referring to "event" as in "limited time experience" that immediately soured me on the idea of the new zone and will be going from "enjoying the content" to "forced grinding to obtain limited time gear" (one of the things i have been trying to do is finish/catch up on gear collection, im down to like 360 items or so missing right now, and 18 of those are the night market monster sets)

Uhmmm... any leads which drop from Night Market will be available from other sources when Night Market isn't running. Your FOMO is misplaced here. Monster Helms are six pieces, not the couple or three dozen like overland and dungeon sets. They're still "go there, kill that boss, get your curated piece, and repeat until you have all the pieces." Your FOMO is misplaced here. Additionally, your account will be faction-locked for the duration, so you'll be wanting to change factions when the Night Market comes back in Season Two to get another faction's stuff. Your FOMO is misplaced here. Thus far, what I'm hearing is complaints about problems which aren't problems. Did I miss something?

They’ve also said it will definitely be back two more times so people can try out each faction if they want to. I’m hoping I will like it and they will end up making it permanent. It would be funny to go to my house there when the zone itself doesn’t exist.

This is also unfortunate for those of us who prefer to quest in a new zone months later, once it quiets down. This is unlikely to be possible in a temporary zone with lots of obligatory grinding if you wish to acquire everything.

I'm glad it's limited. It means there will actually be players in there, which is important for a zone tuned for group play.

why could i not get all of the monster sets during ONE event? or why could i not get the monster sets outside of the event period?

again the problem is if someone missed the event, they would be SOL on those drops until the event came back, and if you are being limited to ONE faction per event period, then you cant collect all of the monster gear in 1 event

the only solution (like others noted) is if they made it a permanent zone

there is no reason to tie gear into a event zone thats not going to be around all of the time, especially if its impossible to get all of the drops in 1 event

thats like saying you can only get 1/3 of an anniversary cake per year, so it would take 3 years to make 1 cake because you are limited to 1 of the 3 parts at a time even though all 3 are available every year (yes i know this isnt how the anniversary event would work, but if it was using the night market gear rules, it would be)

for the mythic, i did not know it would be available through other means until another poster above you mentioned it, if thats the case then im not worried about that

and again i also noted that gear is a completely different thing than all of the purely cosmetic stuff offered in most seasonal events, limiting gear to an event is a horrible design decision

Given how many of us feel about tomes and the missing information given via omission in multiple articles and forum posts and the general vagueness of how things have historically been presented. Until its in game and live, nothing is set in stone.

That is a very not-unreasonable take. Many of these systems have not been explained clearly and that lack of clarity is often compounded when being spread through other channels. I kinda get that ZOS is trying not to spoil any surprises, but there have been plenty of unpleasant surprises because of that lack of clear explanation at the outset. Communication with the community has improved immensely, but "still needs work" pretty much sums up the current state of affairs.

I agree, I have concerns about getting all of the goodies from the limited time event. I have no idea what to expect in this new area, will it be crowded like the Writhing Fortress was at first and I miss something because I could not catch up? Will the instances be too full so you can’t get in? All sorts of things could happen. I really don’t like the whole thing being account locked. That should be the first hurdle to remove in my opinion. That way if someone missed one part they can catch up in the others.

This is absolutely going to be like the Writhing Fortress.

At least the Night Market will be around for 7 weeks, not 1, and it's pretty well guaranteed that we'll see it three times since it's impossible to get all of the achievements until its third return (your favor is account-wide, so you need it to come around three times to get all three factions' achieve).

What I'm waiting to see is this High Seas event though. The way they talked about it as an event, and how they were very clear about "no new zones in 2026 besides the Night Market" means that the High Seas thing is going to be Writhing Fortress part two.
So be ready for when we get to see that and people realize that it's not going to be a permanent zone full of swashbuckling and underwater... yeah, it'll be like the Fortress again.

...and like the Fortress, it'll just beg the question of if spending that dev time to make some time-limited FOMO thing was really worth it, considering they could just as well have made it a permanent Dungeon that people could have gone into whenever they wanted.

It's probably for the best that it comes and goes. Did you see the Writhing Fortress at low population? It was awful. Night Market is designed for grouping and is difficult. It needs a way to get a lot of people in. Not letting people farm everything they need instantly and having it as an event activity may help with that as events generally have higher pops than overland.

i dont necessarily mind achievements and drops being tied to limited time content (example being existing events like witches, jesters, anniversary, etc), but it very much annoys me that they are effectively gonna make it impossible to be able to obtain everything in 1 go like most events

i know theres rumors that the night market could become permanent if its received well, but the event is pretty poorly thought out if you can only earn rep for one faction at a time, its not cyrodiil

as a whole its not a great path to be going down especially when they start adding limited time gear thats impossible to get all of it in 1 go either

i still see a future problem where they introduce something that for whatever reason could be considered meta, and there will be people complaining that they missed the event so they are now disadvantaged in end game/pvp content (where ever it ends up being meta). the only way for zos to prevent this issue from happening is either provide alternative non event ways to get the gear, or just not add gear to events in the first place

Not only is it timed, but it's also a grind, AND tough as hell. I think this content is honestly so horribly designed because it has three gates.

    Timegate
    Grindgate
    Difficulty gate.

No content in this game, or ANY game, should have three gates. ONE OF THESE has to go before the Night Market becomes actually worthwhile for even half of the playerbase.

9 monster helms, and 9 monster shoulders

    Good news! ...I guess.

Your account will be locked into the faction you choose and you can farm only 3 of the helms. So no need to farm all 9 because you can't. Next season you can choose another faction and farm 3 more. Or stay with the faction and not farm another 3.

So the factions are absolutely meaningless if you care about the sticker book.

For the same reason that undaunted pledges exist - to funnel players into the same activity. The more the game grows, the harder it is to get enough people together for specific group activities. Having a server-wide focus on something for a given time helps to bring people together.

This zone is designed to be hard and require more people to progress. If it wasnt time limited, after some time it might get empty and thus unplayable frustrating players that go there and can't find help.

All new content is going this way. First there is hype and after some time no one plays it.

Also they confirmed it will be available at least 3 times and they will consider by the data if it is not changed to permanent zone. So perhaps we could just wait with all the complaints to the time it actualy goes live?

It was awful on the PTS. The initial reveal livestream said it was meant to ""encourage"" grouping but was also meant to be for everyone, including experienced solo players. That was NOT the case, grouping was basically required unless you were one of the 1% of players who can parse like 180+k or something. I have an Oakensorc and she doesn't whip out the highest damage but she has solid survivability and does solid DPS. I was getting absolutely annihilated by the first trash pack in literal seconds.

I heard that they apparently claimed they're toning the difficulty down for live. I really hope that's the case and it's more in line with like a Vet Dungeon rather than a HM Trial or something, or else I expect there will NOT be a good reception for it.

I assumed their plan was for solo players to tag along behind a group, getting to where they were going in the time between the group clearing enemies and them respawning.

Which doesn't sound fun for anyone, but would technically work if there's enough groups or you get lucky and one is heading in the right direction at the same time you are.

Yeah like, nobody's asking for Overland or Normal Faceroll Dungeon difficulty, a vet dungeon difficulty level, at least for the trash enemies seems fair, especially with how instantly they respawn, and how punishing death is and having to spawn up on that platform. This would make it a little less insufferable to have a FOMO grindy mode.
