Graphical issues on PS5/PS5 Pro in U49

I just logged in to update 49 and I immediately noticed that something has changed graphically. It somehow looks as if the player characters are less part of the world. As even they look somehow sharper than the rest of the world. At least on my PS5 Pro. Does anyone else see this?

msetten✭✭✭✭✭P.S. I made a screenshot, but it doesn't come over well in a screenshot downloaded from the PS app.
P.P.S. It's not just the player characters, but also the pets, merchants etc. Either characters have been sharpened or the surrounds have been made a bit less sharp.Edited by msetten on March 9, 2026 7:03PM0 -

I can't test what is mentioned in that other report as on PS5-Pro, there is no choice between performance and fidelity. It is always both.

I can't test what is mentioned in that other report as on PS5-Pro, there is no choice between performance and fidelity. It is always both.

It looks like the same issue, the lighting is flatter overall, it's a shame you can't test it by switching as it seems to revert back to how it should be temporarily.
Here's the before and after for me, i started the game on fidelity mode, and it is noticeably flat and worse than when i switch.
The bottom pic it's how it should be in performance mode, and at that point, it doesn't matter if switch between fidelity and performance, the issue disappears until i see the very first screen of the game again.Edited by SnakeDodger on March 9, 2026 7:34PM1 -

✭✭✭✭✭For me on PS5 it is like the scenery doesn’t have HDR. Sometimes the players look very washed out too but sometimes they are much darker than the surroundings, it’s odd.

The wood in the new fire is pitch black instead of ash grey and fire is oddly bright yellow.

Eurymachos✭✭✭I moved the cooking fire to Sword-SInger's Redoubt to get better lighting and the cooking fire looks fine there. The obvious implication is that some of the lighting isn't working as well as it might.

✭✭This thread really should be labelled differently, so that people can have their attention drawn to this significant lighting issue. Seems like the lighting is awry in a lot of places.
Bright lights are insanely bright on both settings, blazing through solid objects and flooding detail so that it is completely lost.

ZomZom✭✭✭FWIW HDR on my PS5 Pro occasionally reverts to SDR with no HDR options in the ESO menu from time to time, and that happened today. Restarting the game restored HDR options in the menu.0 -
FOULMISCHIEF✭✭This appears to be an ambient occlusion (AO) issue. Specifically, AO doesn't seem to be initializing without player intervention (i.e., changing the graphics setting on PS5). Player intervention isn't possible on PS5 Pro (AFAIK).
The two quoted images best represent the issue.
@ZOS_GinaBruno / @ZOS_Kevin / @ZOS_JessicaFolsom, any update on this? Can we hope to see this addressed in Update 49 Inc. 2?
