Bought Premium Tamruel Tome - been misled.

So I bought the premium edition of Tamruel Tomes expecting to receive my mount - but no mount.

It appears I have to unlock it by earning tome points. 14,000 to be exact.

This is a completely misleading sale. ZOS do not explain this clearly. I have paid for premium ONLY for the mounts. Nothing else. I don't expect to have to wait weeks or months to earn some pointless tome points.

The way they advertised this made it seem to the Layman that paying for premium automatically grants us the mounts.

Can someone explain if this is true? And why have ZOS been so misleading and underhanded about it.

I don't watch all the boring videos that ZoS do but I have e read a little of the literature and it says buying premium "unlocks premium offerings like the mounts". It doesn't say once you have paid you have to waste time and wait to earn 14000 extra tome points s to unlock them.

I do not expect to pay for nothing. I expected the dusk and dawn mounts.

I am currently putting on a ticket as I am annoyed with how this has happend. I paid for those mounts and I want them - I don't car about the stupid weekly and seasonal challenges.

So they expect me to wait for the entire season to earn 14000 tome points? This sort of thing I view as almost criminal.

It’s a battle pass. I suppose it could be argued that they didn’t explain well enough what a battle pass system is but for anyone whose seen a battle pass before, it’s the same as any other battle pass.

I have never bought a battle pass before. This is the first and only online game I have ever played. Plus they don't say "battle pass". I have e no idea what a battle pass is. They only said "tamriel tomes"

The problem is they say ability to unlock whichh is vague. What they mean is if you don't buy you can't unlock at all, but if you do you can spend points to unlock. What you understood is when you buy it becomes unlocked.

Both are reasonable readings and ZOS really should strive to be very explicit on these things.

AHH, but as they are taking our money they must be clear. It seems wrong and not very honest. Now I have wasted my money!! This will stop me and my wife buying anything further. All I expect is honesty and a clear upfront explanation of why I am paying and what I am paying for.

This tells us all more about ZOS than anything they actually say. The fact they hid it from us. Not everyone who plays is an expert in coded messages.

Thank you for your reply. Appreciated.

Where doe it says that I need to earn 14000 points after PAYING to receive reward. I don't play these games. They have NOT been upfront. They clearly make it seem that if you pay you get the mount. I am looking at a picture they advertised showing the mounts and saying you receive them when buying premium. It doesn't say on this picture "must complete multiple silly challenges and unlock multiple pages of garbage to get the mount.

I am not a gamer like most on here, I don't watch their pointlesss videos and don't read everything they write or post. But I did read one thing that doesn't say I must grind to get the mounts after paying.

Clarity should be on the side of the vendor, it's up to them to explain a new system well.

They might well have introduced a Battle Pass system but for those of us not used to dealing with such systems how are we meant to know how it works? I feel the UI in game does a poor job of explaining even the difference between the two types of premium tomes and if I had not read outside articles I would not immediately know the distinctions. Just because Battle Passes act one way in one game, we cannot extrapolate into this game as there are distinct differences in use and nomenclature that I have already seen in the forums today.

As OP says it will essentially bite them on the butt, as these issues will sour customer relations. I hope you get your refund!

In my opinion they were very clear how ot would work - and I also have never played any other MMO or game with battle pass systems.

The tasks seem very quick and easy (except obviously the 99 logins) and premium versions never expire so all you've lost out on is a little time. If you have ESO+ you could even just use your cache and that's 8k points right there by barely lifting a finger

FYI, UESP is a fan wiki, not an official Zenimax or Bethesda site, so they have no control over anything that's on it. While it's generally very reliable, you shouldn't take anything on it as being official or as being a communication from ZOS or Bethesda.

Thank you for your wise words. I have no idea what a "battle pass" is. I don't know this was one of those - I just watched a video with Gina and 3 others talking about this very thing and they do not mention that when you have PAID you don't immediately get these items. They infact, do not explain anything about this battle pass or having to grind to get what we pay for.

In fact they couldn't be more vague about everything. The one male on that video in fact ddnn't even sound like he knew what was going on.

I think they should be more upfront for us that don't game regularly but so pay for stuff.

The video I am refering to was on twitch dated January 7th - ESO 2020 reveal.

In any other battle pass system, buying the pass allows you to earn the separate (non free) rewards from the pass. Buying the premium version UNLOCKS EVERYTHING so you do not have to go out of your way to earn them.

This is the only pass that has done it differently that I have seen in any game.

Also, could you please provide the wording form the official source that you read. UESP is not that (as pointed out by a poster before me).

This is incorrect in other MMOs I've played or currently play, with a battle pass. The premium version, by subscription or purchase, usually allows the player the ability to spend the pass currency on different items that only premium can get on each page. Fallout 76 for example (much of their system was borrowed from 76) has each page with things on it marked for subscribers or people that have purchased the pass.

That said, as I keep saying repeatedly, you cannot inform people enough. The studio has been extremely bad at informing people about the changes and what they mean. There will be a not insignificant portion of the player base that logs in today and has no idea what's going on. Most of us already know what a battle pass is, but some people do not. There was no reason to be vague. This should've been broken down but by bit in a mail sent in game. Then, if a player doesn't read it, it's on them.

While I may not understand it, it seems a prevalent attitude in gaming today is that one should be we have to go outside the game to get information about the game. I disagree but it's not a small number that thinks this way. All efforts should be made to inform people when you want their money. Period.

    Hi,

I am a layman, games wise. But on eldescrollsonline.com tamriel tomes after the title "opening the page"

The very first line reads this

    "Premium Tamriel Tome (paid)
Grants the ability to unlock the Season’s premium rewards upon purchase."

To me that sounds like that once I have paid I get the premium rewards which include the dusk and dawn mount.

Maybe others might read that differently but on its own it states that's what I get. So I paid fro that. I didn't get those premium rewards upon purchase because I have to now earn 14000 extra tome points to get to page 10.

    Anyway thanks for your insight.

I do not see what you are referring to on the website (I was probably looking in the wrong place), but this is from the news article on the website:
    "
Tamriel Tomes—Tome of Dawn and Dusk

ESO’s first-ever Tamriel Tome is here! Complete challenges to earn Tome Points and unlock pages, then spend those points on whatever rewards you desire. The Tome of Dawn and Dusk is available from April 2 until July 8, 2026, and it features a wealth of free options for all players, including consumables, currencies, furnishings, and collectibles.

Upgrade your Tome for more rewards

For those who’d like to choose from even more options, the Tamriel Tomes Premium and Premium + Bonus options are also available for purchase and include a host of additional collectibles and other rewards. The Premium + Bonus option also grants you two caches of Tome Points (for faster progression) and the Raynor’s Traveling Robes costume.

And "grants the ability to unlock" if you pay. That's how it sounds meaning if you don't pay you don't get.tthst ability. Padantic and symantics. You are choosing to to read it like a person who doesn't pay.

In the UK, companies are legally required to be transparent about what consumers are receiving for their money, covering both the description of goods/services and the total cost. This is enforced through a combination of consumer protection regulations and fair trading laws, primarily governed by the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 (CPRs) and the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

There are many players who are unfamiliar with these types of battle pass systems, myself included. This is the only game that I play and the way these Tamriel Tomes have been advertised is misleading imo. It needs to be absolutely clear to every type of player wether you are a veteran gamer with lots of experience in many games or a completely brand new player in the gaming world.

    Premium Tamriel Tome (paid)
Grants the ability to unlock the Season’s premium rewards upon purchase.

That line is all that needs being said. It's from the official source scroll down to "opening the page"

"Grants the ability", not unlocks the rewards immediately, simply the ability to get those rewards. You're right, that line is all that needs being said. Pretty clear to me.

You can always tell who don't pay anyrhing, the free players.

And "grants the ability to unlock" if you pay. That's how it sounds meaning if you don't pay you don't get.tthst ability. Padantic and symantics. You are choosing to to read it like a person who doesn't pay.

It's not "choosing to read it like a person who doesn't pay", it's reading it as the actual words that are in the sentence. No where does "Grants the ability" mean awards are automatically provided. You even typed it in your reply, "That's how it sounds meaning if you don't pay you don't get.tthst ability". No "Padantic and symantic", it's reading comprehension.

Thanks to everyone for explaining how it works, glad I decided to check here first before spending any money - especially in these tough times. So if I had spent $40.00 Canadian then I'd still have to grind for the rewards. In another game I play, if you buy the premium pass and it gives you the rewards so you don't have to grind. No hate, it is what it is and now that I understand it I know it's not for me.

Ok, so if this is a Battle Pass essentially, and I have to pay for it to get all the possible rewards, and I'm paying annual sub for the crowns...I have ot keep paying both...this is crappy...should be some type of package deal for less where you just pay one price annually for the monthly sub and the premium tome for all the seasons they release that year.
