Would you like some iconic old class animations to remain available as optional Skill Styles?

I really like most of the new Dragonknight animations. They look polished, modern, and clearly had a lot of work put into them.
At the same time, while class animations are being reworked, this feels like the perfect chance to preserve some of the older iconic effects by making them available as optional Skill Styles.

For example, Spiked Armor has been part of Dragonknight identity for more than 10 years. For many players (inclding me), that visual effect is part of what the class has felt like for a very long time. I would love to have the option to use the old one sometimes for nostalgia and class fantasy.

This seems like a win-win solution. Players who prefer the new animations can keep using them, while players who miss certain classic visuals can choose those instead. No one really loses anything, because this is about adding choice rather than removing it.

There will always be players who dislike some of the new animations, and others who miss old ones that became iconic over the years. Keeping at least some of those memorable older class animations available would solve a lot of the frustration around these changes.

If ZOS is already investing in class animation updates, preserving a few of the most memorable legacy animations as optional styles would be one of the best ways to make those updates feel exciting for everyone.

No, class animations should move forward with the new versions only.

“Some” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. I don’t think it’d be possible to return all the styles because the animation’s changed, but some? I don’t see why not.

They would have to update old styles to match the scope of the new abilities but I did in the skill styles thread ask for a resizing and fitting of Noxious Breath's ombre orange to green fire as well as an option for a green fiery breath.

I also really loved the Ash Cloud animation before so I would love an ash/black version of Hearthfire.

I do feel they should consider some legacy skill style updates going forward to old skills since as we saw with dk and the two I mentioned above it does lose something players might have enjoyed/cared very much about.

That is exactly why I said some skills, not all skills.

Skills that were changed in a major way, especially ones with different execution timing, different readability needs, or a completely different purpose, obviously would not work well as old-style options. I am not suggesting a full rollback of every animation change.

I mean cases where the new version and the old version are still close enough that an alternative visual style could realistically work.

Spiked Armor is a good example. We already saw during the PTS cycle that the first version of the new visual was considered too small, and ZOS was able to adjust it within about a week after feedback. That alone shows these visuals can be iterated on. So what would stop them from making a Skill Style that keeps the new casting animation, voice, and hand gestures, but uses a final effect that is closer to the old style, with the larger and more iconic spikes?

Molten Weapons is another example. The new version fully replaces your weapon’s appearance, and that may be fine for some players. But an old-style option would be a great compromise for players who want the buff effect while still keeping their own weapon outfit visible.

    I would love it.
But honestly, I doubt it is technically possible along with devs' desire to keep a client size under control.
Current skill styles are just various color schemes and sometimes retexture. Custom animations would come at a much greater cost.
