Please improve first person

I know many people play it that way. Not in dungeons or pvp but mostly in all the other stuff.
Please add a real character model in fp and also so that we can actually see our shadows.

Also PLEASE increase the FOV. I have the slider in options already turn up fully but it still way too narrow.

I am pretty new to the game (only cp 700) but I really really love this game.

The biggest thing that holds first person back is how over the top the first person ability animations and effects are.

Ever tried to buff up as an Arcanist in first person? You literally can't see your screen through the effects. Armor + Runeguard legitimately take up half of the screen.

I hardly ever play in first person, but find it fun to do when questing. However, it's just absurd how cluttered first person feels on certain classes

ESO really really really really shouldn’t be played in first person. It is an option, yes. But the game and its mechanics (even the mechanics added to story bosses!) do need players to be able to see around their character. And of course, playing group or PvP content in first person is just choosing to cripple yourself and your group.

As for the “you should be able to see your shadow thing,” well… that’s honestly not a thing in most games with a first-person/third-person camera, and it’s certainly not in any previous Elder Scrolls game (or Fallout game, if we want to stick with the same producer). That’s because the game works by not even having a character model in first person - your character is literally just a camera with arms, so shadows would only show two disembodied arms floating around. They do that to ensure that the camera doesn’t spend half the time clipping into the character’s body.
I think more recent games are getting better at this, but it’s not common. The only games that you tend to see it done that way are games that are specifically designed to be in first person only and make it part of the game to experience it that way (like RE8, for example).

I know it can be done - I have a Skyrim mod called “The Joys of Perspective” that just adds the full 1st person model so you can look at your own feet and see your shadow and I can’t play without it - but it is definitely uncommon. And in a game like ESO, where playing in first person is a crippling liability (and more people really need to realize that just because something is possible doesn’t mean it’s intended), it’s really not worth the time.

I played in first person for about three years from game launch, both in pve and pvp. Eventually I realized I hit a plateau in both in that I was not going to get any better continuing to play in first person. In dungeons I would be standing in red and not realizing it quickly enough, and in pvp my success was limited to ganking where I did not have to be as aware of what was behind me. It’s just too much to maintain proper awareness of what is happening both in front of you and at your feet in pve to respond in a timely manner. Add in the necessity of being able to react to intelligent enemies moving behind you to engage in pvp and it becomes untenable there as well.

I appreciate they included the mode into the game, and for some that just want to quest overland they will be perfectly happy with the first person experience. But if you have any kind of loftier goals in this game it eventually becomes a hindrance.

Whilst I definitely agree that you should play in 3rd person for combat, I do think that the 1st person view should also be improved, in case one should ever want to explore using 1st person view. At the moment it just looks really bad.

I would love to play First Person.

As mentioned above though, this game heavily punishes you as it relies too much on AoEs for “difficulty” in content.

On top of that, Arcanist and now Dragonknight animations all flashbang your screen when in 1st person, and if this is the new standard, it will only get worse.
