Fishing Overhaul - Season of the Angler

I've been fishing in ESO since the beta and have seen no changes. Here are an assortment of fishing ideas I've come up with over the years:

Season of the Angler?
Fishing contests or annual event (similar to hearts day)
Custom Actions in the crown store
Visual refresh of the fishing spots (just HD, nothing fancy)
Quest line and dailies similar to Tales of Tribute, but shorter
- Dailies give a bag with chance to drop a fishing themed armor/weapon style
Passive skill line similar to Legerdemain (improved vendor price on fish, reel speed, increased roe chances, etc)
- Skill line final Upgrade: Fishing spots have a permanent blue-glow similar to treasure chests from the Psijic Order
- Ideally this would replace Reel Technique and Angler's Instincts from the crowded craft tree
Fishing furnishing that allows people to cast the fishing animation (not real fishing)
Custom Actions in the crown store that change the look of the fishing rod (similar to crafting custom actions)

Open to other ideas, let's discuss pros & cons

While I don't see reason to change much with fishing (and for sure wouldn't do quests for that), I agree that visual changes, custom actions and event around it could be nice ^^

Understandable, quests might be too much. I think the one I would push for the most is the passive skill line. Another random idea I have is adding a small passive to Argonian's Amphibious passive to increase fishing speed or something

I thought the curated drops for rare fish was a nice gesture, although I forget when that was-- during an Anniversary Event? Maybe they could briefly enable that again from time to time, such as having a "Fredas Fish Day" once a month, or even just once a season if they think once a month is too often.

I wasn't aware of that event. Either I didn't notice or it may have been when I took a break. I think I would argue that's how fishing should work by default, rather than a buff during an event. But honestly I'd take whatever I can get--I want to believe fishing isn't dead.

i love all these ideas, even the skill line suggestions sound awesome

I would really like to see some skins for my fishing rod

then an overhaul to the wet gunny sacks, they .... are just bad, i would like some motifs added that can be fished maybe just 3 or 4 styles that can be fished in all zones. Or even fragments similar to public dungeon fragements for costumes or pets.
Some customised actions for fishing, similar to harvesting actions, maybe even one where you sit in a comfy angler chair (another chair for Sharp please too)
maybe even a fishing houseguest that starts fishing when placed near a body of water, or ...even better... a idle animation for Sharp houseguest.
Some more fishing furnishing knick-knacks that are not fish. like decorative rotting treasure chests, mossy old soaked boots, discarded broken furniture, some rusty old swords, soaked books, etc lots of ideas for more fishing rewards.

As far as customized actions go, instead of just giving us different axes, they gave us a crazy lightning storm to chop wood. There would be more creative ways to fish than just changing the rod. Something like channeling a summoning spell would be fun.

Every rare fish should be a furnishing. bind on pickup.

let people who have the relevant achiv purchase those fish from achiv furnisher.

heck, even add a "Fishmonger" or "Tropical Fish Dealer" achiv furnisher who exclusively sells them.

It made it's first (and thus far only) appearance during the Pan Tamriel Celebration 2025. Supposedly the curated fishing portion has been made into its own Angler's Favor event. Akin to the Explorer's Celebration where it's not a full on event per se, but can be utilized any time as a weekend bonus, tied to other events, etc.. But until the Angler's Favor ever actually drops independently, we can't really know for sure.
