Minimal Animosity Achievement - Fang Lair

Do I not understand how this works? I have been in groups where we have killed zero crystals before the merge, as well as exactly one crystal before the merge, but we do not get the achievement. What am I missing?

✭✭✭✭✭Did you wipe? You get one chance to get the achievement per instance. The counter doesn't reset.
