Silly battleground question about people abandoning matches.

Maybe I'm dense and don't understand but why do people abandon matches and take a 30 minute deserter penalty when a match they're losing on only lasts 10-15 minutes and they still get loot boxes, ap and exp? Is there somethign I dont understand? Like it makes more sense to just stay in a bad match than have to wait 30 minutes just to pvp again

1. There are certain addons that collect your statistics, like win rate, K/D ratio, etc. So some “elite” egocentric players would rather abandon and get a penalty to not ruin the stats only they can see.
2. Sometimes the frustration of unbalanced teams overcomes the penalty. If you are being farmed directly at your respawn spot by another team, one might call it a day and just finish the Battlegrounds for that day.
3. You can just hop onto another PvP character so you don’t have to wait to queue again AND not frustrate yourself staying and getting slaughtered.

A bad bg that someone is leaving...

Sometimes their boss pings them on Teams and asks them if that PowerPoint deck is updated for the meeting in 20 minutes when it isn't. Life happens. This is a video game. Not important... literally at all.

Better them leave then get toxic...

Reminder that some players leave because they are stuck in a wall due to warden charm that ZOS refuses to remove. I do agree to rage quitters should be punished

But still, those who get stuck are not asking for this, and having them be punished because a troll got them stuck is unnaceptable. Last summer a warden troll in my team got three players stuck in a wall.

I think also sometimes the matches are just so bad that people leave and don't mind the penalty because they have no intention of going back.

This. BGs have become cesspools of bad behavior. More often than not, players jump into BGs hoping to get lucky with a decent squad and/or not fighting against a coordinated group of spawn camping wardens and healers. Then they are reminded that its BGs, where such things are rare

The 30 min cooldown is only for BG's, you can run a few dungeons or do quests instead of having an unfun time in a lopsided spawn farm. I do think 30mins is pretty excessive though.

I imagine zos does as well and is the reason they implemented it. The punishments will continue until morale improves sort of thing. It's bizarre frankly. But, as ive said many times, we are where we are because zos. It's like they'd rather drive over the pothole than get out and fix it. Even though that should be their job, to fix it.
