PC: Has 'out of date' stopped mattering?

This is not a criticism of addon authors or a demand for updates, it is just a question.

For years I've used Minion as a quick way to update my addons and for most of that time the majority of addon updates followed game updates - somewhere between a few days to a week after a major update to the game Minion would have a list of updates for most of my addons. Most of those updates were probably just changing the version number so the addon wouldn't show as out of date, because they worked before and after, but it still seemed to be a common occurance.

I noticed recently that hadn't been happening, the majority of addons I use (including a lot of the libs) haven't been getting updates. Today I finally got around to checking on esoui.com incase the authors had just stopped using Minion for some reason, but the addons weren't updated there either. I only use about 20 addons, but they're from a wide variety of authors and some are quite popular so it seems unlikely they've all stopped getting updates at all.

My best guess is that enough people have caught onto the fact that 'out of date' doesn't mean the addon won't work or that it'll cause problems, so authors now only update their addons when they actually need or want to change something, not just to match version numbers. But it is just a guess, I don't know, so I thought I'd ask: do you think that's right, and if not is there something else which explains it?

Most of the time to have the addon up to date we just change the api version number, everything in the addon is still working perfectly.
1 Doing it for 15 to 20 addons is a waste of time for nearly nothing.
2 Each addon update on esoui.com is manually checked for viruses & other things so it also costs time to the few running the website.
So we have now started to update an addon only if we fix something or add a feature, not just to change the api version number.

Minion gets the addon updates directly from esoui.com, if it's updated there then Minion gets the update, we can't stop Minion.

That makes sense. I knew esoui verified the addons to make sure they were safe, but I hadn't thought about the fact that they'd have to check everything every time there's an update.

It does seem like a better system for everyone, and it's good to know I haven't been missing updates.
