What is it that reduces my damage literally to a few hundred against players?

I've been building to be a full glass canon just to see how high my damage can get. When my procs are all up, I'm sitting at around 7k spell damage, 38k magic, 50% crit rate, 100% crit damage, and 8k penetration. However, I often will see my damage numbers against a target suddenly drop to like 200 per hit. Ability, light attack, enchantment proc, doesn't matter, they all get reduced to this amount. This feels like something new. What is it that does this?

With the refresh to Dragonknight, might be a lot of people playing that class now and using Magma Armor, which reduces all incoming hits to 3% of max health. So if they have 30K health, 3% would be 900 and add in 33K armor, holding block, major/minor protection, major/minor maim, etc., etc., and that 900 can go very low. They can't gain ultimate while active so if you can wait it out, you have a window to do full damage where they will not be able to cast Magma Armor again for a while.

you can get tons of mitigation if building tanky

you already have -50% dmg from battle spirit to start
hitting someone at 33k+ armor is -50%
    major protection is -10%
if the target starts blocking thats easily another -50-75% depending on their block mitigation

so after all is said and done your probably looking at around 75-90% dmg reduction of what your tooltip states, i would say the general avg against most players is likely at least -70% for lesser armored people, and closer to 95% for heavy tanks

this is not even counting reductions like magma/corrosive

if you want more consistent dmg numbers against players, should look into incorporating oblivion dmg as that ignores resistances and is based on %hp

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (fully filled out with current game), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

in progress: acquiring mundus stones (currently only have the thief)

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

If the damage number has a * at the end it means it is blocked and this is likely the main reason why numbers become very small suddenly. Block mitigation can go up to 90%. You have to line up a stun with your burst so they cannot block it. If it is a tank just ignore and walk away.
