Heavy attack DK in casual vKA, whippin Falgravn good. Funny as I had magma ulti so could have done a lot better, plus rotation was just winged.

I don't know what I am doing any more.. I have played magDK for *checks notes* 9 years now and now I don't know what any of my abilities do or what my rotation looks like now.

    This. This is me.

I was a magicka dragonknight pyromancer since 2017. Loved it, lived it, and understood it. Now I don't know what I'm doing and feel kind of discouraged.

I'm guessing that I'm... supposed to buff up (molten armaments and dragon armor for the weapon buff), lay down my elemental blockade & Flames of Oblivion replacement, whack you with searing strike, cast my inhale morph, and then breath fire on you with my channeled fire spell? Only use molten whip when it has 3 stacks on it for maximum damage? Then reset things when they fall off?

I don't know and there are so few theorycrafters of note left that I'm not sure where to get answers. Oh, and now my weapon buff turns my $24.99 gloambound weapon style off and replaces it with giant, cartoonish, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Deathwing-themed weapons. When I holster them, they're as big as my torso and bounce comically as I run. Which is... great.

I'm going to beg Reddit / the mechanics forum here for help eventually. But right now, I've given up on my alt at present and am rolling with my cryomancer Warden... whose future is one I'm dreading.

Edit addition: honestly, I wish they had just scrapped subclassing. I get why they didn't. With subclassing, they can create an ever-changing subclass meta that the hardcore will chase from update to update, boosting said group's engagement. A constant chase for the next best thing. Something to lock 'em into this ecosystem.

But for the rest of us, ugh. I made one of each class to experience them all and learned to like them all. Now I get to watch each one get completely reworked, one by one, to shift the subclass meta over and over. It's going to be two years of this. *sigh* Oh well.

when in doubt, whip it good.

I was never a DK main, but the new moltenfist feels better to me than stonefist did. Even on a magDK I seem to be able to maintain it much better. It procs offbalance as well, to get ina good whip session. I personally like the new animations for whip too.

I personally think the updates to DK suck if you are a tank and trying to optimize the group. [snip] Honestly, DK tanks IMO got the royal shaft on this update and took a lot of steps backwards. [snip]
DK pure tanks are weaker in comparison to a subclassed one and honestly, taking any DK skill line as a subclassed tanks feels weaker. Earthen Heart was pretty much the DK skill line to take and that has been butchered to the point where IMO it is worthless. So for now the Arcanist/Warden/Necro will become the new tanks until they too ar butchered, then I guess there will not really be a need for a tank.

Buffed as DD's, gutted as Tanks. They spread all the useful abilities and passives(and reworked some) for tanking across all 3 lines, so if you want to retain them you have to go pure class but then without subclass you lose group utility.
The design team killed off the tanking tools that I've been using for 10 years, so that's just gone.... Maybe some DPS players are excited, but I'm certainly not from these other perspectives, especially tanking.

It just happens to be the case that I am least familiar with the DK over all other classes, so I'm probably not "qualified" to respond to this poll.

However, in the event that ZOS is reading through this feedback, I'd like to raise the flag that I'm saddened and concerned with all of this feedback regarding DKs and tanking. Seeing as healing is my primary preferred role, both in PvE and PvP, I'm worried that this trend will continue through the other re-works -- especially because I've seen a lot of comments about how the Warden re-work seems like it might focus on ice damage... and it's currently a Best in Class healing class right now.

While I understand that part of the push for bringing back class identity was to make it so other classes could compete against beaming, tanking was a big part of the DK's class identity for a long time. They were Best in Class tanks for sure. Anything that lessens this is a big step backwards for DK class identity imho.

For all the re-works, whether a class is typically leveraged for tanking or healing, and if it can do it well, should be considered. The points about the abilities being spread out and how that potentially creates a less-than-optimal play experience for supports should also be considered. I really hope, at the end of this, that we don't end up with seven pure classes that can pump out damage but zero that are fun to tank or heal with.

The design team totally disregarded DK tank identity with the changes. Long time play style includes using Igneous Shield for the various types of value that it created. It includes rotation between battle roar ultimate and potion use. There are a number of other parts of DK identity impacted too.

Hyper put a build out and though concluding that DK tank is better now (I disagree), there wasn't even reason for him to slot Igneous Shield or Chains on that pure DK build. He used scribing skills instead.

Part of my feedback from the DK survey was about scribing skills undermining the class and homogenizing play. Because the unique tools that DK has got worse, I have to think that the class slowly losing it's identity over time isn't a true concern.

If the designers cared about DK identity they would have leaned into it's strengths and made them better. They would have looked at what players have enjoyed over the years and gone into that natural player defined direction. Instead, it's like they made an evil twin. DK is now something with the same name, but it feels way off, like it doesn't even belong in ESO. The different buffs that were given to skills feel more like bondo and spray paint applied to a Honda Civic rather than powerful, unique, and identity enhancing.

    Rest in Peace:
    The Dragonknight
    2014-2025

This commemoration is for the class that has constantly been plundered and dismantled by designers for no obvious reason while other classes continue to have coherent skill lines and feel both powerful and cool.

It's interesting that people don't seem to get that Whip and Engulfing are two different spammables meant for two different builds. IMO, and based on many builds I've seen, Disintegrating is meant to be used with Whip builds, Engulfing is meant to be with a different build and used with Take Flight. Engulfing is similar to Fatecarver, you set it up with Take Flight then spam it three times while Take Flight ticks for 15/s. On my own builds, I sometimes have Molten whip slotted just for the passive damage increase, but never use it.

DK is now my favorite class because of Engulfing and how it received the 'Fatecarver treatment'. Before, I hated DK because I hated being forced to use the ugly whip -or- rely on weapons... but now, I have two builds I can use, and thankfully the whip looks so much better now that I don't mind using it... but I never use Engulfing and Whip together in one build.

It's more fun to kill DKs on my pure class, no-proc, off-meta Magden now.
