Anyone else also feels bad about this?

Hello everyone, I am curious if you also feel like I do in a particular question, which was a part of my random brainstorming while playing.

See, when we complete quests, the NPCs often give us a beloved family trinket (weapon or armor) that has been kept safe in their family for generations. These items have unique names and descriptions to make them even more "important".

However, what I usually do with them actually makes me feel bad a bit, since I either just sell them to the first NPC I see or just deconstruct them if I have a better item.

Now, you can ask why they give that in the first place, but I guess if they lost almost everything in an attack on their village for example ,they feel like they should give us something as a reward for saving them, which is natural. In many other MMOs, such rewards are much rarer and I often decide to keep them in my bank as trophies.

Here, however, my character has items stashed away in places you couldn`t even imagine one could hide items at, and my bank is always full, so I don`t have too much of a choice.

Is there anyone who feels similar about this? I can`t help but feel sorry for these NPCs. Wish we had like a trophy bank where we could put items that lose all their stats, armor, damage, whatever and become bound to character/account, but at least we (if there are others like me) could sleep better at night :D (It would be awesome if we could turn these items into costumes as they usually have unique skins).

Well , i dont feel bad , and i do have one of my bank alts just to keep trophies/pets and other items like this.

Still , i only keep very few compared to all i got , i do agree that it would have been to have a place to keep them all.

That's funny. I had a ring that was someone's family heirloom the other day. I forget the name, but the description said it had been passed down for generations.

So I'm thinking... nice, this ring has been in their family for hundreds of years, and I'm selling it for 10 gold. o:)

Hah that is nothing , there are tons "legendary" items that we destroy along the away.

Example , there is this quest in EB , where you need to do a lot of things then you even meet a part of Sithis , which tells you should hold one of the "fangs of sithis" which is a dagger that should so awesome that even a part of sithis came to talk to you about it.

Well , now the fang of sithis is scrap metal :P.

When they add housing, it would be neat if there was a "treasure box".

Anything put inside of it is permanently stripped of stats and put on display in there, so you just see the name and description, and can't be removed (only deleted), but has a very high storage capacity (like 500 slots).

To optimize server resource impact, it wouldn't even have to store actual items. Just a database table of the item names + descriptions via tooltip.

Actually, I feel sorry for the game and its designers; the current design doesn't generates attachment regarding memorabilia.

In RPG, memorabilia is an important part; The RPG players are different, not mentally ill like some try to insinuate everytime this things are discussed.

Most games are limited of course, it would not be reasonable to have space to store every item in a modern mmorpg.

Anyways, if it makes you feel better, take screenshots.

An WOW cartoon even had a joke about this, don't disenchant the item in the view of the one who gave it to you.

In WOW you could not break down items for raw materials but you could extract the enchant and this could be done on the spot.

And yes for elder scroll players it make sense to store any memorable or unique items.
In ESO, it might be an idea to store some items if you plan of making an alt who will use them.

Got some good news for you... you don't have to feel sorry for NPC's , they're not real people, they don't have emotions and they don't care about their possessions (or anything else for that matter).

So Tally ***! rob the NPC's blind, destroy their precious heirlooms right in front of their eyes, burn down their homes and kill their pets... they don't give a darn.

Ya its indeed a pity that it is like that, I feel ZO could had done better there. One of the big issue´s right now is that we cant upgrade our items to our Char level.

I wouldn't mind wearing the same armor from level 4 until the end of the game, definitely something that should be changed in the crafting system.

Well, wouldn't it be easier to just do away with the crafting system, trading and whatever is left of the economy? Would have the same effect, anyways.

Except, of course, the OP's point (I'm assuming) is that it can spoil the immersion. I'm glad I aint the only one that finds a bunch of pixels mildly endearing :D
Jesus! Did I SAY that? Or just think it? Was I talking? Did they hear me?

Need housing to do this but I did very much enjoy being able to either use or mount heritage quest rewards in EQ2 and then place them in my house. This made the quests more meaningful too. ESO could stand to learn a few things about MMOs in general but oh well I didn't mean to bash ESO here just wishing for more depth to the game. (PvP has no meaning to me so that was a waste of time IMO)
  • DogeRobert
Sadly, for a game that harps on so much about immersion, they've made a few rather big mistakes.. Like the memorabilia which are next to worthless for most chars... Or the forced choices you have to make in some quests, where obvious solutions are not part of the selection of choices..

.. Basically, I'd like to agree with the OP, but after my 15th hard reboot of the day due to bugs - meeting another set of bots with their followers tagging along - etc.. It's very hard for me to stay immersed enough to care about the quest rewards.. Though I'd really like to be able to do that..

There are exceptions of course.. 4-5 quests out of the ones I've tried so far can actually make me feel sad/emotional. I just wish a lot more would have an impact like that.. (Though not necessarily triggering the same emotions).

I have never given that much thought before.

But what does make me laugh sometimes is when an NPC is asking for help to save them from marauding trolls that have eaten their family or something. The first thing we do is rummage all through their stuff stealing all their food and anything that isnt nailed down.

    "My hero" o:)

Good for you for feeling that way OP. I think a key element to making MMOs even more fun is going beyond what's coded and given to us, and letting our imaginations and emotions pull us into the world.

Letting yourself actually project into the scene, imagine what it would be like if it were really happening, makes the whole act of playing something very different then just a stats/leveling experience.

Much like letting yourself totally fall into a good novel, that kind of approach to games like this can make it so much more satisfying. Keep caring about those NPCs! :D

ESO should learn one thing or another from any MMO?

Either you dont know very many MMOs, or you only played one or two before.

ESO is full of features from at least 7 MMOs in my last count. Not the same feature exactly but the base idea and build on it.

For example, the AWESOME Cyrodiil, which NO MMO has. This PvP idea is from Daoc, just modified and evolved.
