Probably the most unfun patch for PvP if you’re not playing DK

Pure DK is so far ahead of everything now that if you’re not a DK, you’re gonna have a bad time. I tried to enjoy this patch but I realized that this is just going to be a DK only patch, which is pretty ironic because people complained about the lack of diversity with subclassing, yet are completely fine with 1 class dominating PvP lol.
I tried to play other classes but nothing comes close to DK so far. I think I’m going to sit out because I don’t really enjoy DK’s playstyle. 6 months until my class gets buffed, hopefully it is on par with DK.

Arvedia✭✭✭Returning PvP-Player here. Quit PvP after they announced subclassing, returned when I heard about the coming pure class buffs. But after playing with my magplar and getting absolutely nuked by dks, I don't even want to imagine how OP they will be with those buffs on top.
I don't think they'll be able to balance this game at this point. Just going to enjoy the other aspects of the game, PvP is just not fun anymore unless you play meta ig.4 -

A pure stamsorc or a pure magsorc? The new dk hits hard asf but fundamentally it’s the same as it was before with the same combos and counters, either version of sorc your on should just be able to out kite with streak. Now I will say that dk kinda hard counters stamsorc and there isn’t a whole lot you can do other than run away so if your on a pure Stamsorc my advice is just to be in heavy with like wyrd tree or something and just work on not getting 1 tapped xD0 -

Played some pure sorc (sithis disdain rallying) this patch, still works absolutely fine if you play ranged, as all the DK builds are melee range ones.
There's also a lot of avenues to subclass into DK skill lines for strong builds, warden charm with Northern Storm & Power Lash for example works very well. In case of sorc, you can actually sustain using DW scribe as spammable with Heart of Flame and put an Off Balance affix there for easy Power Lashes.

They are a stamsorc.
Part of what makes DK so strong this patch is specifically the crit meta we have been in for over a year now. Everyone is spec'd into crit resist to combat animal assassin monomyth sub-class builds that DK stacking raw weapon damage and damage done, just completely ignores crit resist, so most players are actually on giga-squishy builds when fighting DK, because the defensive stat they stacked into is doing nothing.
Something I have been finding that helps (since my main is a shieldless magsorc, which is basically inferior blue stamsorc) is Mara's Balm back bar.
DK struggles to get finishing blows on Sorcs outside of leap into whip (since streak makes it fairly easy to kite corrosive). So reading when that combo is incoming and swapping to the back bar for a full cleanse of DK's DoTs + full heal has been really good for me since it removes the DoT pressure that allows that combo to reliably kill.
Mara's being heavy (legs + chest for max value) with 2-4 defensive stats like armor, crit resist, etc. go a long way for not just instantly folding to other burst as well, making it decent against other meta builds (especially with 6 impen).
Sure, I lose the damage from Rallying Cry back bar, but being able to survive and semi-frequently neutralize the DoT pressure more than makes up for that, especially for the early part of this patch where everyone wants to try out the refreshed DK.
If that's not enough, I also swap in the cleansing revival champion point slottable. It's a full cleanse if you heal yourself while under 25%.
What ends up getting me most of the time are the CC/break free bugs that have returned this patch. They have really been what has made PvP unfun to play.7 -

Yup, and the thousands of non-meta Subclass combinations not using Dragonknight skills are in a worse spot than Sorcerer.

I’m in 5 heavy 3 protective. Stuhn’s + wyrd tree + balorghs. Use the sorc class script with trav knife and off balance or swap stuhn’s for oakfathers or something and run vamp claw.
Either way as previously stated you need some pretty heavy armor investment and good negative effect clear if you wanna fight DKs

Yea there’s no good fix really, but there never has been because stamsorc has never been a real class. You have absolutely no tools to deal with anyone unless you outsource, this is how stamsorc has always been and anytime we find a super good combination of outside damage or defensive tools they are swiftly nerfed and taken away from us.
My advice is to either suck it up and play the tank sorc blade or reroll like everyone else.

Well I am sitting out this patch until class mastery passives and if that isn’t enough to let my class compete then i’ll sit that one out too until sorc rework, which is a little less than a year from now.
I tried DK for 2 days but I couldn’t enjoy the playstyle. Sorc was what got me into ESO PvP and I actually only play this game for as long as it is because of this class. I’m sure there are many other people on the same boat as me, playing a class they enjoy. It just sucks that it’s going to take a while until everyone gets their hands on the reworks2 -

Oh come on, the stamsorc has the strongest spammable in the game! Just take a look at how Crystal Weapon compares against Arcanist noodle:
With Crystal weapon you don't have to worry about collateral damage that comes with an AOE. Furthermore, the lack of a heal and damage bonus on the enemy will mean that on a stamsorc you won't become a lazy PvPer being carried by your skills.2 -
Agree with the post and also agree with just updating skills to complete and visuals as planned I don’t want to wait years to just complete on my nb and no I don’t enjoy other classes it’s why I only play nb1

I'll also mention again that replacing Storm Calling with Restoring Light (mitigation and HOTs not purge spam) can be an effective adaptation for subclass builds, iterating on the previous dueling meta. What you're going to do most likely is stalemate if the opponent DK is good and uses wings.
DK is of course the strongest class right now, if it wasn't I would consider the rework a complete failure.
I take this meta any day over the Animal Companions/Assassination clown fiesta, atleast there's some class identity and many different/viable ways to play DK.
Sorc rework is later this year, just saying.4 -

They're trying to tapdance around subclassing. They know subclassing is broken, but because there are some people who like it, they either lack the authority or the resolve to admit that subclassing was a mistake and to remove it (along with other mistakes like scribing and hybridization), and so the only way they can make pureclassing more attractive is if they make pureclassing broken-strong too. Because they're not nerfing what pure-classing is competing against, they're just trying to one-up it. So it was always going to be this way.
And it is just going to be like Destiny's revolving meta with the way they are going to keep releasing updates to pureclass - every class will get its day so to speak, and everyone will be playing those classes.
While I think the pure class updates are a great step in the right direction, I don't think they can fix this game while they continue to leave things they KNOW are a problem broken and still in the game. So I've dialed back how much I'm playing the game, and may end up focusing on other single player games or other ES Titles.1 -

I'm with you on this. Reading between the lines on their actions IMO I think old leadership was chasing the Korean MMO trends of one toon to "do all the things" and current leadership is like... nah fam we are ESO... class identity has always been our bread and butter.
I do think they are trying to unwind it without going full removing it. Removing it IMO would be better long term for them but... I think they are in a delicate place ATM where it's hard to convince people in the boardroom that this is the direction we need to head.. so you end up in this middle area of... well lets rework classes and bring back some class identity.
I actually came back after a year off because of U49 and am having a blast. Yes, I'm a DK and PvP is filled with DKs but... we always do this dance right? Each update the meta gets shifted and people chase that new meta. Every game is like this... it's just a wave that comes and goes. Give it a few weeks or another update passes and things will settle.
I'm seeing a lot of non DK skills on my recap for what it is worth and some of these non DK builds hit like a friggin truck.LadyGP/xCatGuy

Do you have any idea how development works? You do know the teams that handle these kind of things only have so many people right? It's impossible for a studio, who arguably has shifted to a semi maintenance mode, to do something of this scale and push it out all at once.
They can either... rework them one at a time and push them out or hold them all and release at once.
IMO releasing them one at a time is the best path forward. It gives us content throughout the year and gives the studio things to learn from each pass that they can then iterate on in the classes down the line.

✭I've been doing fine with pure NB, but yeah, DK is strong. I don't mind though. It's a breath of fresh air compared to the assassination/animal companions/storm calling meta that has been plaguing the game since June. U50, which is in about 3 months, is going to include class mastery passives, so that will further improve the balance between unworked and reworked classes until all get reworked. Some of the class mastery passives look broken in a good way, so it's definitely going to make a difference. Honestly, hop on DK and enjoy its power until U50 drops to bring other classes in line with it.4
