This is perfect, worthy of DK.

Idk what yall are on, the skills look amazing, people on the forums are always so dang negative.

I don’t really mind the new DK ones but, to me, the new 2H animations look like something out of a He-Man cartoon. Perhaps they appeal to people who would normally be playing WOW but I prefer my ESO with a bit less cartoony flashy stuff. Then again, that went out the door with arcanist I guess.

I'm with you! I think the new effects are fantastic! I wish I could tone down the Cleave flash, but it isn't a deal breaker. I feel like if ZOS comes through with their VFX slider it'll be absolutely fine

I'm not "people on the forums", I'm people on the game who has played for many thousands of hours, and yesterday I not only removed all of my dragonknigt skills, but I decided never to play PVP in this game again. Most likely I'll not even play again with anyone using the new dragonknight skills. it's really unbearable. Looks completely excessive and exactly the kind of children games I absolutely hate. So there's that, I know it's my problem because I'm not enjoying what's happening to the game, but can you elucidate us why you are defending the destruction of part of the game? Why do we need to lose the skill effects we paid were enjoying and paid for to be forced to use the ones you like? Why can't you pay for those horrendous animations and leave us in peace using the ones we enjoy. Are you and the players who didn't like the original animations more important than the ones who did? And what's the point of skill style if we can't even preserve the original skill styles we had?

If you don't like the visual changes of the classes they are overhauling then use one of the classes that they aren't currently changing.

That's exactly what I'm doing right now, but it's been announced that all classes will be gradually destroyed. Therefore, if there isn't a solution so we can preserve the game as we liked it, it's only a matter of time before we lose it completely.

I personally think visual update was much needed and can't wait for other classes.

But I totally agree that before ESO had bit more tame animations which was part of a charm. Although those tame animations were very much outdated.

I can see the issue that in future when all the rework will be in, average fight will be unreadable. I think instead of fighting agaist the change - we should maybe think of different ways to fix that.

I would totally see silder for spell effects visibility possible. Okay, I don't know if this is possible for ESO but it is possible for many games/MMOs. Sliding such option down would make effects less visible, more transparent, less shiny etc.

I genuinely despise most of the new visuals for DK. Some are good and fun, like breath, but most are loud, obnoxious and intrusive, or just plain worse than the original. They lack texture, and look like they belong in WoW and that's not a compliment, that game looks cartoonish and awful. I was on a sorc just now and getting hit with an infuriatingly huge visual effect (full body claymation fire) from a team mate, blocking being able to see my own visual effects. As a community, we keep saying tone it down, and it's almost spiteful when they do the opposite, consistently. I don't have pts, I can't go load the new patch before it drops to see how annoying or difficult to use the visual changes are going to be, and recommend changes early and it feels like all the youtube video creators are either young with full vision or like flashy VE, so people like myself where details get lost in visual noise and it makes the game harder or unpleasant to play lose out.

I'm genuinely worried about warden and the other refreshes. The visual FX are why I play this game rather than another game. Why I spend money here rather than another game. If ESO doesn't feel like ESO anymore... At this point, it feels like a chore to have to come on the forums and make it known that x thing that is really good does not need to change. When lots of us are saying "hey, it's good as is, please don't make it look like that other, worse MMO" and still get ignored, it's... not a great feeling. ESO feeling more realistic is part of its charm.

I understand it was necessary, but it was necessary to make the effects less intrusive and less noisy. However, the opposite happened; what we saw with DK was that everything became noisier, more explosive, and more childish. It's utter confusion. Therefore, things are going from bad to worse. I already have immense difficulty creating builds without the most insane possible effects. With DK, it's now impossible: everything I liked about DK (really everything) has been ruined. Why? For what purpose? Is there really an intention to recruit the WoW audience and abandon the Elder Scrolls audience, as I've read? This is all very strange.

And then there's the big question that no one has been able to answer yet: Why weren't the original effects preserved and the new ones introduced as Skill Styles?

Coming back to this to add that the blue styles are genuinely an improvement if you find the base styles too busy. It's a shame if you want them to be fire coloured but if you don't mind, they're 20k each in Craglorn.

I checked out my DK 2H today and I was horrified to put it mildly. After all the threads and posts begging to let us hide loud and flashy effects to be hit in the face with this... I was stunned. Are all our classes going to be changed like this?

I agree the 2h skills, some anyway are not as impressive, the feel of them is a wee bit off, its kind of difficult sometimes to weave with them, thats my complaint. Though I absolutely love the red effect for Rally, I think that one is super badass. Execute is pretty good, I just again find it clunky when trying to weave with it.

I'm not "people on the forums"

You're a part of a small but vocal community that doesn't necessarily represent the whole of the collective eso community. Namely, the forums. Its not that deep. And I don't think its controversial to say there's a negativity bias here. Like most social media with a "likes" system. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Whether the grievances are valid or not, there are many.

Everyone talking about 'skill styles' but I don't believe any of the skill styles change the animation, they only change the color- correct me if I'm wrong. But based on all the skill styles I have, they are just a color change, whereas what 2H went through was a complete revamp of the animations. While they have added animation changes for harvesting and recall, I haven't seen any that change combat animations.

So those saying the changes to 2H should have been just a 'skill style', it wasn't a color change, it was an animation + color change.

Further, when I see things like this being made in ESO... I think of two explanations. Either these new animations are actually made because they are saving server memory by changing them to something simpler or changing to a better modern coding, or two, they are done to justify keeping more members of the animation team on the payroll (I call it job justification where I work). Many times where I work, we get changes done that make absolutely no sense, except the fact they're made by people worried about keeping their jobs so they have to show they are actually DOING something to justify keeping them employed. Considering how the axe fell last year on the ZOS development team, I could see either explanation as plausible, and acceptable IMO.

So on the styles, the blue dk styles don't get rid of any of the excess chest fire, but makes it less noticable against most terrains.

The redesigning stuff so the higher management doesn't fire them is awful, both for the animators and us. It's a game, we always have new stuff or redesigns that need doing (cough horse legs cough), they shouldn't have to justify their jobs. A game without animators is a choose your own adventure book.

I've been playing around with one of my dks to see more of what's what (rather than just having my view blocked by a team mate and the field overrun by everyone running dks). A lot of the AoEs are perfectly fine used by one person by themself, the excess chest fire disappears quickly. Whip and strike are too much, lots of flailing flashes, and talons is slightly uncanny valley plastic feet popping out of the ground but that one is probaly one that just needs getting used to. Magma armour used by the tank was causing the claymation fire. Weapons is a quick little flash and I appreciate that on the non DKs it hits, their weapons flash but no lingering effects. Don't like that it changes weapon styles on the user. Wings is weird in that I both love and hate it. The wings have more detail, which is good. There's a bunch of fire wind, which is bad. It smacks people and does a stun knock back, which is hilarious. It doesn't sound quite right, which is a downgrade but not necessarily bad. I have been running around on The Dread Peep slapping everything with wings just because. The sound on breath is also in a weird spot. It does sound like high pressure fire from a small outlet, but it's almost tuned too loud/intense for a headset. This could be on my end.

I am hoping we get more nocturnal/crow or bird styles to match the leap. I'm also hoping the animations being texturally smoother looking is because it's fire, and that sorc lightning and warden ice and plants will both look like the actual elements. Hopefully the animals (my particular worries are bear and clannfear but all of them really) don't get the weird auras or anything like that.

I would say the issue is the take ZOS has on the visual update, not the update itself, which is quite late if anything. Better animations would be good, I just wish they had more subtle movements and effects. Some skills should just change how they work entirely to accomodate that.

I just wanted for all skills to show your weapons while casting and not have weird laser visuals/mechanics(current nekro skills/netch).
And subtle movements instead of weird ones.

Claiming that you would pay for Less visual noise, and other forms of noise, is all well and good.. for you. But let's face it, no one should have to pay for proper accessibility features. And that's the base issue. Giving a toggle is not a gift, it is the base level of what a properly run company should do for their players. Giving options is always the best course of action. Choice, or the illusion of it, will Garner customer loyalty far more changing mechanics or visual refreshes ever will.
Maythor: honestly we're getting the supermarket treatment here ... shrinkflation with the addition of simply moving things about so they seem fresher .. all the while being told a corporation is our friend :P

If it comes with strings, it ain't free. It isn't a gift with purchase; you were overcharged.

Just what I wanted. The most obnoxious, overly bright, ridiculously sounding effects when swinging a two handed weapon. An effect that looks like its from the mind of a 5 year old (ooh look. Glitter!). Whether a sword, maul or axe, the noise is too tinny to be anything like realistic or immersive, and the effects (that don't just follow the line of the weapon, but are in other areas around you while you swing as well) is beyond childish.

I thought that we would be getting some of the feel that you get when you are hit by an NPC performing an uppercut move - I don't PVP much, so not sure if applies when fighting another player - where you feel the hit, go into the air and fall back with a thud. But no. You get Flash, Flash, Flash & Zip, T'zing, Ting. No jolt of your weapon hitting them. No enemy flying into the air like you do (they only fall over onto their back at best). Just cruddy visual and sound effects.

Also distracting if it is not you doing it. I was fighting one of the Zymel bosses the other day for the challenge, and there was one other person there. Short time into the fight - Flash, Flash, Flash & Zip, T'zing, Ting, courtesy of the players companion. Hate it, hate it, hate it. So much so, that for however long I will continue to play eso (not that long I think. Definitely stopping eso+ now anyway), I'm not going to play any of my two handed builds going forward.

There was a Sega game from 1989 called Strider. Side scroller. Your character had a plasma sword. Visual effect of swining the sword was a massive white crescent in front of you, and a high T'zing sound effect. (Look it up - it's on youtube). Then compare with eso now, and two handed combat in, oh, I don't know, Oblivion or Skyrim. See how realistic and immersive this game is becoming.

They seem to be aiming for "Capital City of your choice New Years Fireworks", where effects are concerned, when we need Bob Mortimer's "Standard fireworks" instead. (although, not the burning down the house. Which ZOS seem to be intent on as well).
