Concerns about the new deluxe edition advertising

1 - The news post (https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/69507) claims that scribing is a part of deluxe edition... but isn't scribing a free part of base game?

2 - The roadmap shown at the start of the year shows that Greymoor is becoming base-game later this year. New players won't know that.

3 - The advertising on Steam doesn't show the descriptions as to what the "eight previous chapters" are. I'd think people would be more willing to buy it if they knew they wanted to go to those locations. I, for one, was enticed to join the game because of Clockwork City.

The Deluxe Edition in the store on the website also lists Morrowind as one of the chapters you get with it, and the description claims that includes the warden class: "Explore the island of Vvardenfell, harness nature-based magic as the Warden class, and more!"

Technically you do get both, but considering they're included in the base game now it seems misleading to advertise them as Deluxe Edition bonuses.

Technically you do get both, but considering they're included in the base game now it seems misleading to advertise them as Deluxe Edition bonuses.

For years Steam has had a similar misleading claim. It says the Standard Edition includes the “base game AND Morrowind chapter” — but per the U49 patch notes, ZOS has considered Morrowind part of the base game since they started including it with purchase back in 2018. The “and” implies additional value when that value’s not additional to the base game but already included according to ZOS’s official view. (It really doesn’t help that Vvardenfell is still called DLC while also being base game. Up until these recent patch notes ZOS had always referred to it as DLC, even as it became included with purchase, and it is still listed as such in the various in-game menus, like set collections and antiquities.)

They also make it hard to find out on Steam that the French audio isn’t included for recent content. Looking at that link you posted to ZOS’s information on the Deluxe Edition, I see it says “Text Only” for French. But Steam’s store page for ESO, which offers direct links to add the Standard Edition and Deluxe Edition to the cart, has a checkmark for “Full Audio” under French. Only by clicking on the Deluxe Edition item under “Content for this game” to get to its own page will one find that it doesn’t have full audio in French. How many players will click that separate link for the Deluxe Edition’s detail page when it’s much easier just to click the direct “Add to Cart” link from the initial store page? I would not think to check a separate page for language support information when the Deluxe Edition is directly purchasable from a page that already has a clear checkmark under “Full Audio.”

    It is all super convoluted

    - They should have a standard edition that includes everything they consider base game (which now includes gold coast, hew's bane, Wrothgar, imperial, Vvardenfell)

    - Then there should be a deluxe edition that includes all chapter zones + other zones like Galen/Deadlands/Murkmire etc. Those extra zones are basically the endings of the actual chapters but are for some reason still not included. You get half the stories in a 'deluxe edition'. Not very deluxe if you ask me.

    - And they could even do a (very expensive) complete collection that includes everything including all zones + dungeons.

It is also baffling they are changing this now but still offer Gold Road Collection on PSN+ Essentials this month which is another bundle that is different. They should have included the Deluxe Edition there instead of changing it 3 days after release.

The marketing of this game is and remains very convoluted, even now passes, upgrades and collections are gone. But this is probably on purpose all so vague.

They should also include details the describe what the items advertised actually are. It is possible that someone might think that the "Shaman" being advertised is an actual playable class instead of just a cosmetic they can choose to wear. Or that a certain animal is a mount instead of a non-combat cosmetic pet.

It takes away nothing to include this information in the advertisements.

Hi All, thanks for the feedback here. We have adjusted the scribing line, as it is now available for free in the crown store and not apart of a Chapter.

We are also chatting about some of the other changes to make sure this reads a bit better. So thank you for noting any confusing points of the article.
