Dye vendor please

Please give us a dye vendor. I don't understand why getting dyes in this game is locked behind content. No other mmo does this. Since they are talking about QOL fixes, this would be a great thing to do.

I do kinda want a dye system overhaul. I don't personally mind dyes being sourced from achievements, but I had a friend earlier vent to me about how she has less dyes she likes (especially purples) because she doesn't pvp or do trials. We also have several dyes that have been in game for years but are only sourced via crown store one time use dye stamps that only work on costumes. We are also still missing some commonly desired colors/color variants.

I played Infinity Nikki for a while and I liked that their dye system gave far more options and colors for free/just for the base dye system while still having other colors unlock via certain conditions of gameplay. They also allowed more controlled dye sections instead of just the 1-3 per item eso allowed which gave further customization on details/accents of items. My only gripe with IN's system is dyes had a currency to spend that made the system more tedious but I doubt ZOS would add something like that in.

Either way it's been brought up in some way a few times in the past few weeks so I hope the QOL team does consider some sort of dye system overhaul.

YES PLEASE. I don't know if it's reasonable to just import all the dyes from WildStar but I have swatches if you want to do that. WildStar did dyeing best IMO. I don't recall if you could buy them directly from vendors, but they were drops/rewards from doing other content and people would post them on the game's version of the auction house, so if they worked like that in ESO they could go on guild stores.

They could make them drop from killing mobs or a vendor. I'm just sick of dyes being locked behind pvp if you don't pvp. They should have never been locked behind content.

I would absolutely love a Dye System overhaul. Some Dyes are locked behind truly tedious tasks, like the ones for Fishing or getting the Monster Trophies, and some behind stuff impossible for most players, like the Emperor red. It's one thing for Titles and the like to be tied to achieves but Dyes should really be a lot easier to earn.

I also think Costume and Weapon Dyeing can stand to be added to base game, rather than being tied to ESO+. I know there will be people that will go "but Plus is losing value don't take MORE from it" but come on, does anyone think ZOS will lose revenue from a change like that? I doubt there are droves of people who sub only for Costume/Weapon Dyeing lol.

Being able to just buy Dyes would be amazing, the game can get another gold sink and people would have more options for colors that aren't tied to a bunch of achieves that can take months at best to unlock. Hell I've been playing ever since the game was in closed beta and I STILL don't have all the Monster Trophy Dyes. Leaving getting something up to pure RNG is butt.

I’ve wanted Legate Black for 7 years and I still don’t have it LOL. I always use the Void dye instead…

I think GW2, dyes are unlocked using items (like our runeboxes), and I think their shiny dyes are drops from trials? I certainly wouldn’t mind runebox style dyes, gives everyone more things to sell (and effectively trade) since dyes come from all parts of the game.

Or just a vendor, I don’t really care. Dyes have pushed me to get some achievements but I don’t think they’re achievements that particularly need dyes to entice people. And fashion is for everyone!

I would take this a step further and want them to just give us an RGB slider along with a matte/metallic slider.

Then they could give us the "special dyes" through achievements (ones that you can't make with the sliders)

There's no reason to not have more options, I don't know why they haven't done more dyes. They drip feed them way too slow and make them way too involved to get.

I ended up going for Grand Overlord due to my obsession with Legate Black. I wear it on all my chars in Assassin League set. Paired with Antique Silver which shows a brilliant light gold color it is exquisite. Once I got this armor with these colors I became determine to get all the Cyro colors.

Yeah I am vehemently against this proposition.

    Dyes are achievements.
    Dyes have always been achievements.
    Dyes should always be achievements.

Aspirational cosmetics pushing players into content they wouldn’t have played, is healthy for the game.

In fact, we need more dyes, behind harder activities. There should be more rare dyes.

Khajiit also does not want to see this happen. Colors as marks of achievement are one of the things this one has always enjoyed - it certainly motivated many of khajiit's efforts. One of the few quest/achievement rewards in the game that never get old.

Would be like allowing players to make their own titles.

Why is it that when someone suggests something, you forum goers are always so quick to aggressively devalue peoples suggestions using strawmanned arguments? I think that you are being disingenuous in saying that people don't want to work for cosmetics, because I don't think this post is necessarily about that at all.

I would honestly be fine with keeping the locked dyes locked, but a dye vendor who sells more dyes doesn't make the achievement dyes less valuable and still allows us to "work" for them. Whatever the *** work means. Have new dyes that are purchasable(and can fill out the basic colors that are still missing from the game, instead of the 400 purples and blacks that we always get)

You know it's okay to have plenty of stuff you don't have to work for? Personally, I think arguing about this for DYEs, a system that is free for most games and does not have such a gated reward system for them, this isn't such a farfetched suggestion as it would be for like mounts or something.

And we aren't even lacking in things to work for? So what's your deal? Why come off so aggressive?

If you can only get Patron’s Gold from mastering Tales of Tribute, how would it have value if you could just skip all of that, and straight up buy it?

The game does a great job of practically giving away starter dyes, but no. If you want my fisher dyes, (some of the best primary colors) get fishing.

Might bring down the Roe cost, honestly

As others pointed out, not what we're saying. There are a dozen crown store dye stamp dyes for various colors we cannot access except for a one time use stamp for our outfits. Some of those colors have been heavily requested for years but are still stuck for costumes only and only on the dyestamp locked position. In fact, here are all of those missing dyes:
    s2p7ec20sya2.png

There is also a problem of a lot of specific types of colors being locked behind specific types of content with no variety. As I mentioned in my first post, a friend of mine is a purple enjoyer and a lot of those are locked behind pvp. It's a common complaint I've heard in the fashion community over the years. It would not kill zos to add newer purple dyes that are obtainable through other means. Similarly, because it's not just a pvp thing, a lot of good gold/yellow dyes are group pve locked. Several of the monster trophy dyes are extremely pretty and useful and I have friends who have been playing since beta who don't have them unlocked because the droprate to monster trophies is still abysmal (and zos has dropped further support of this kind of achievement since base game with new creatures for a reason). Diversifying sourcing is important especially because it'd be nice for some people who don't do everything in game to have more variety of options.

Also, I have every dye available in game via achievements right now and still think the system could use a look at and modernization for various reasons I mentioned above and a few others.

    I would love this.

Perhaps if it does include achievement type dyes, to mitigate the 'you don't want to work for it' cries, make it cost something that absolutely is work, but isn't the work the dye originally called for.

Such as Emperor Red needing something like 10,000 player kills, or 100,000 world boss kills (numbers just thrown out there)

Then, give us more dyes that are only available through the vendor. Fill out missing colors, give us more shiny and more iridescent dyes, give us more things to spend our gold on!

I'm used to this system of achievements for dyes.. But I don't like it.
(plus, dye stamps are already sold in store)

I've done a lot of content that I didn't enjoy to unlock dyes, and sometimes been disappointed once I got the dye.
But regardless, not enough new dye comes out each big update to fill the gaps of what dye colours people want. I am tired of overly shiny dyes being pushed out and alot of mattes are just low saturation or the wrong colour entirely. In a perfect world I would like full customization with dyes. But I don't think that will ever happen. I would like other ways to unlock dyes. even if it isn't the "same" dyes. Guild Wars 2 system was alright where most dyes came from an unidentified dye and you open it and get random dye and then they later added special seasonal ones to cash shops etc.I remember the character birthdays also let you choose one to unlock and I liked that as another way to get the exclusive dyes but having to choose which ones.
I think achievement dyes being exclusives would be alright but there should be other ways to get dye (while still doing content, drops, leads, whatever other source) or even some basic dyes for purchase from merchants. I have no problem with not having THAT dye from the achievement, but I still want to be able to dress in the colour I like, sometimes that's not even possible at all with how limited the dye selection is even if you own them all.
