The cave map is blank.
I didn't get credit for killing the quartermaster.
The map only recognizes the Caterwaul marker if you hug the cliff leading up to the ship.
I completed the quest by skipping the quartermaster.

I found by collecting the bones first, then going back to ring the bell allowed me to kill and actually get credit for killing Xynack0
