Letters from companions

I have noticed that when you use the purple gift for a companion, you then receive a thank you letter via in-game mail. The HUGE problem with that is, just as the maxing the friendship letters, you they get them via in-game mail and you cannot keep them, they get automatically deleted on normal main timeout.

Can we get them added to Eidetic Memory or something?

Seeing beyond my own fateline was extraordinary, a rare and precious gift. As has your friendship, which has had a profound impact along a number of axes. My isolationist tendencies, my hyperfixation on arcane minutia, my rampant ear-hair.

In celebration of this happy perturbation of my life, I have procured for you a small offertory knick-knack. I contracted with a friend in Sentinel to make the included tea set, inscribed with specific arcanist runes and Apocryphal symbology. It should make exceptional brews and improve your long term health. Theoretically.

    Inexplicable and Entertaining

    Cohort,

I was at first delighted, then dismayed, then ecstatic about your gift of an Apocrypha Puzzle Box. These are no mere mechanistic diversions, no! They are tightly wrapped Oblivion pockets nestled within hyperextended physical encasements. The perfect diversion for an easily-distracted researcher such as I.

This one in particular seems to have some beautifully asymmetrical potentialities locked within. If I could merely work out the transliminal axis of this thing's centriole, I could swing wide the doors of this troublesome conundrum and learn the secrets within!

In any case. I deeply appreciate the gesture. Tea, soon?

    A Token of Friendship

We have come a long way, my friend. When we saved my foster-brother Quistley from the Daughter of Sithis, I never imagined where our road would lead. Dark dangers and hard-won victories, mystic Eyevea, even a reunion with a sister I thought long dead. Through it all you have been the truest comrade I could ask for.

I have never been good at talking about such things, so let me simply thank you with a token of our friendship. My old tutor Thierren gave me this medalion when I earned my staff. It depicts Julianos, patron of mages. I have always regarded him as my protector, and I hope he will watch over you as well. In years to come, let it remind you of our journeys together.

    Dear <Name>,

Thank you so much for Indoril Inks. I have been looking for that book for years! Dark Elf tattoos may seem like a strange thing to be interested in, but there is some fascinating arcane lore associated with their designs. Now I finally own an authoritative reference on the subject. And it's beautifully illustrated, as well.

I shall treasure it, my friend. And think of you every time I leaf through its pages.

A Little Note From Me To You

Hey so … you know I'm bad at this stuff. But just for you, I grabbed a quill and decided I'm writing down my feelings. Ugh, yuck.

Ever since that day at the tower, I've been watching you. Not in a creepy way, I swear! I've just been trying to understand. Why me?

I still haven't figured it out. Most people get sick of me by now. But you haven't. And you also happen to be one of just a clawful of people, ever, to keep things interesting. That's pretty amazing.

I tucked in a little gift. A joke, kinda. But when I saw it, it made my eyes go wide and my tail frizz up. And you do too. So. Here you go, or whatever.

PS: Yes, I stole it. No, that doesn't make it any less special.

I love it! See, this is why I really think you get me. Most people would have tried to give me something sentimental. This is a gift that never stops giving. I can spread all the bits out and admire them in the light. Or hold one up and imagine who used to own it.

Oh! I think I'm going to try drop one in some silly merchant's satchel and see how hard it is to fish it out. You're the best!

    - Ember

PS: I am absolutely going to add to this pile.

PPS: Don't let me forget to give you back the coins I borrowed when you gave this to me.

A Gift of Sweets from Stendarr

You're my best friend. It seems trite to say, the stuff of adventure tales and romance novels, but it's true. I was once a girl with a wooden sword who wished to be a knight.

Now? I'm sworn in service of a true hero, I've seen more of Tamriel then I ever thorght I'd see. And you've helped me to be a better person ... because i'm *not* that little girl anymore. And my releationships have grown alonside my friendship with you.

A few days back, I slipped off and found ... a gift for you. This silly, sacrilegious Stendarr candy jar is something I never would have known existed, if not for you. Let it be a Symbol, filled with sweetness, of our companionship.

    Stendarr Smiles on You

    Hey there <Name>,

Thank you so much! Your gift is so incredibly sweet! This is actually the same kind of chapbook my parents got me when I was young and started to wonder about the Divines. I used to page through them looking at the words and the pressed illustrations, wondering about why Mara did this or why Akatosh did that.

My old Stendarr book - I think my mother still has it - is full of notes and questions and little scribbles from a girl full of heart and short on patience. I wanted to be a champion right away! Why did Stendarr let things happen the way they did? That kind of thing.

This is a beautiful reminder of those days. I'll treasure it, always.

    Something to Remember Me By

I was talking with dad, telling him what I've been up to. It made me realize how much you and I have done since we crossed paths at that shattered doomvault. I think we've visited half the Daedric shrines and ruins in Tamriel. Not to mention all those dolmen.

I want you to have this family heirloom. Traditionally, it's handed down from mother to daughter. My family isn't big on traditions, but we are sentimental. When mom gave it to me, I thought she was reminding me I wasn't getting any younger. But she told me to give it to the right person when I found them. I'm not sure what that means, but after all we've been through, I thought you should have it. As a remembrance of our adventures.

Fajh'na tah (Ta'agra; vulgar expression of enthusiasm)! This gift is thraghuul (Orcish; crude/ironic slang term of praise)!

Did you know that Heart's Day is thought to be Sanguine's summoning day? So it's especially fitting that this book expands my vocabulary with depraved expressions like "as tetchy as a tharriker in heat."

As these are from all different languages and cultures, I won't start peppering them into my speech just yet. I'd hate to make a tzilnech (Jel; offensive/contemptible person) of myself during our travels.

But perhaps someday I'll teach you my favorites, and we can try them out together.

I'll keep this short. I made you something. Carved it myself. The enchantment's pretty crude, but it's mine too. Been testing it out, and there's not a fishing spot in Tamriel or beyond where this won't have better fish biting faster.

I prefer your company more than anyone else I've met in this world, but seasons change, and all roads diverge eventually. For when that happens, and you're in need of some solace on the end of a fishing line, I hope this helps.

    Hey,

Bowfishing?! Never seen anything like this before. Don't know how I never thought of it myself. It's brilliant. A whole new way to fish! A whole new skill to learn and perfect.

You probably noticed I don't often make a point of saying thanks. Never liked feeling that obligation. Trust that if I'm taking time to write you a thank-you letter, I really mean it.

Just know that you won't see me using this until I'm satisfied enough with my technique that I'm sure I won't look like an idiot.

This is probably something you hear a lot around Heart's Day, but you're a great catch.

    Thanks again.

    From My Hands to Yours

    Tamiit,

Between our many travels I found this treasure among the rubble in my tomb. I was stunned. Ja'kh must have followed me to my tomb at the end of his life. The ribbon and clapper have long since decayed. But the bell was nestled among his bones. I believe he died at peace, and am glad his spirit now walks this second pounce with you and me.

This bell once brought me comfort. Now, I wish to pass this comfort to you. Even when we are apart, know that Ja'kh will be near. He and I must truly be among Azurah's favored—not only that we were given this second life, but that any part of it was spent at your side.

    Tamiit,

What an enchanting gift this moonsdial is! And how nicely it pairs with my moonclaw. I am put at ease to always know the movements and phases of Jone and Jode; doubly so when we find ourselves in far-off planes, or underground, or anywhere else where one does not easily see the sky.

It is strange—I never felt such anxieties in my life before. Perhaps it is something I acquired resting so long in my tomb. Or perhaps it is just another facet of getting up in my years.

Either way, my heart is warmed by such thoughtful generosity. It is a blessing, as always, to be your tamiit, and especially so during this Hearts Day.

Thank you for adding the mails. I'm so sad I couldn't find the right gifts for my favorite companion, Mirri! I now know what I missed and I loved her correspondence. It also saddens me I got nothing for Bastian, who despíte not being my favorite is highly respected for his love of books. I wish these gifts had become a permanent part of the game, instead of loot from a very short event about whose return we don't even know.

I love Laura Bailey, so Isobel is great to me.

I also like Bastian though I know he's less popular.

I enjoy Sharp and his story - one of the better more recent stories to me with his questline as a whole.

    I enjoyed Zerith-Var.

I didn't get to the others yet - Mirri would probably be next. It takes me a while to max out a companion and I do them one at a time.

I probably will never find the time for a few that don't interest me - but at the same time I want more of them.

    How about you outside Mirri?

I think Bastian is less popular mostly because of the cheese thing, which is more amusing than annoying. I like him a lot because of his love for books and his backstory. I'm fond of Isobel, as she's always ready to get some action (by which I mean violence); this is why she's my choice at the Infinite Archive. Zerith-Var and Sharp had very nice questlines too.

I found Mirri to be the easiest-going rapport-wise, as long as you stay away from butterflies and torchbugs, and don't do anything with the Dark Brotherhood. She's not too fond of combat but she likes booze, Daedric ruins and excavations (these last three all raise her rapport).

I find a few of companions a bit annoying because of their personality quirks, mainly, actually, Mirri because of how heavily passive-aggressive she is.

Bastian is... Ok, if you can ignore his holier-than-you attitude, which gets even more annoying because of some triggers unintentionally combining to make him sound even worse (e.g., "How dare you steal! You're paying for me now." when looting a blue+ item from a safebox).

Personally, I like Zerith, Ember and Isobel the most, though Ember is kind of a major let-down because her unlock quests just screamed "Sheogorath!", then... Nothing. Not even a passing mention.
I think Bastian is less popular mostly because of the cheese thing, which is more amusing than annoying. I like him a lot because of his love for books and his backstory. Easiest rapport-wise are Tanlorin (has a list of rapport boosts twice as long as any other companion, and gets the major boost from alchemy daily writs), Azandar (enchanting daily writs), then Mirri and Bastian (fighter and mages guild dailies respectively, NOT limited to 1/day).

The hardest is Zerith-var, with both the worst debuffs among all companions, and worst boosts, including many of significant ones (gaining new codex entry and completing multipart antiquity codex entry) only obtainable a limited number of times *PER ACCOUNT*, not per character, and moreover, having LONG cooldowns on them, so you can even waste them on top of that.

im assuming the hearts week event will be a yearly event, especially considering they added new achievements for it

i dont disagree that the companion gifts could be decoupled from the event and added as regular drops, and just have higher drop rates during the event

They are completely reformatting the events though, so who knows what shape would it take. And yeah, having a chance to get a companion gift in general loot just like you get companion gear when you have a companion out would have been ideal.
