Guild Spamming Issue

    So, khajiit is curious. What exactly does the guild in question offer? Perhaps he would like to join.

    So...nothing then? No delightful guild hall? No free trader? No "friendly helpful people"? No "daily zone and dungeon clears"? Not even "loud, ranty obnoxious pre-teens shrieking on discord"?

    So, is easier to code up Lua spammagedon addon than it is to win folks over with winning personality or offers of treats?

    That is really unfortunate. Now khajiit is sad.

    Ooo, khajiit just had a thought. Perhaps this is all misunderstood. Perhaps this isn't any kind of pyramid scheme-through-guild-invites kind of weirdness at all.

    Instead, khajiit thinks this is an attempt at a kind of addon-enhanced involuntary PvP, where the guild invite spam is a kind of undefendable 1-shot attack. Let's face it - it has an equivalent effect - inconvenience, a little bit invasive, have to deal with the consequences of someone else's unwelcome actions for a bit.

    To Karth, this makes sense. Which makes khajiit even more sad.

    While I'm still unsure of the sincerity of your request, I took the time and looked up their activity schedule for this week to answer your questions.

    * Yes, there is a guild hall
    * Yes, they have a trade guild
    * Yes, they have friendly helpful people to answer questions
    * Yes, they have a Discord that people use for voice chat
    * Cyrodiil runs rotating thru factions
    * Zone dailies
    * Imperial City Telvar farming
    * Farming parties
    * World boss tours
    * Skyshard runs
    * Dragon Hunt and North Elswyr dailies
    * Zone clears
    * Fishing tournaments
    * Guild raffles
    * Housing Contests

    Request was most sincere.Khajiit is always looking for new friends to play with.

    Where did you look them up? Khajiit trusts but verifies and would like to do the same :smile:

    And if they do offer all of these delightful perks -hooray!-, why engage in what seems to be near-universally unwelcome forced intrusions in others' playtimes? Khajiit has joined numerous guilds over the past 9 years from the strength of their zone announcements. With such sleek offerings, surely this guild would have no problem connecting with potential members the old fashioned way.

    Perhaps khajiit is sour and pessimistic in his old age, but to this one such intrusions, and their consequences, seem to be the goal, and not just an unfortunate side-effect. Khajiit hopes he is wrong.

    The thing is, if all of this is true, they will have /zero issue/ maintaining their membership if they stop using the spam bot. Which makes their doubling down in its usage extremely puzzling.

    they wouldn't be going to these lengths if they weren't making money on this outside of the game. i'm sure that's why they want their discord so full and don't care if ppl get booted from the in game guilds. ppl have said on other threads pertaining to this same issue about their discord having nefarious aps on it. i have a feeling if it was known what was actually going on behind closed doors, they'd be shut down immediately. maybe this is what is taking zos so long.

    It gave me pause too when I first heard it awhile ago, so I had to look it up. It's true. That, the recruitment quotas they have, and their own custom spam inviter, just adds a whole 'nother level of what the heck to their incessant invite spam.

    I'm sorry, but would any company view MMO recruiting as a resume builder?

    I used to see jokes about someone who had being a GM of a large guild in WoW on his resume and he pretty much was universally laughed at.

    This would probably be the case in most business settings.

    Hello all, I wanted to chime in as a member of the guild that is under attack here. Yes, under attack. This post, as well as others, are part of a coordinated attack that has been started in discords of other guilds. I personally see this as harassment, bullying, and an abuse of the forums. The GM doing all this has also joined, then left shortly after, the discord of the guild under attack, likely in order to get the usernames of officers so that they can share them with their guild and falsely mass report, which is against TOS.

    Onto my experiences with the guild in question, they have been completely positive. I never would have joined a guild if it wasn't for getting a random invite, and I'm incredibly happy to have received it. The guild is full of helpful friendly people, always happy to help out. Despite what everyone is posting here (because they were told to in discord by their GM), the guild chat is full of new members thanking us for getting invited.

    Requiring discord is a very standard practice for guilds, not just for ESO, but for MMOs in general. The guild interface in ESO is lacking, and discord makes guild coordination so much easier and more efficient. Yes, the guild being attacked does have inactivity purges, just like the majority of active guilds do. This is necessary for maintaining and active guild.

    This guild took me in as a new player, taught me how to play the game, spent lots of time and resources on teaching me and plenty of other members how to get into the endgame, and has become a community that I, and many others call home, and I'm tired of being harassed over an invite that many are happy to receive, and that takes less than a second to decline. idtbm3qltfzd.png

    The frustration with invite spamming has been going on for years and years. It is not coordinated by anyone. If you are in the know in that guild, you are being disingenuous. If not, you have no idea how the guild really operates. They know people hate the spamming with passion. They encourage it anyway, and only those that support it climb the ranks and start recruiting and grooming others to do the same. It really is an MLM, or cult, or whatever you want to call it. They don't care how much people hate it. In some ways, the more it's hated, the better, because it's how they get people to prove loyalty, like frat hazing.

    Nice try! This thread was renamed by a moderator.

    As for this being part of some grand conspiracy, well there have been multiple threads and complaints about the spam invites for years. I don't really care about the inner workings of this guild. I don't want to join it. I have declined dozens upon dozens of invites in the time I've been playing eso. Like just freaking STOP spamming people and most people wouldn't have an issue.

    Why do people that come here to defend what the guild is doing always bring up the quality of the guild? No one cares if the guild is bad or good. What we care about is the annoying spam to every player ever.

    And honestly I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just really frustrated.

    I think it's lovely if there are people who like the guild and are happy they were invited to it and are enjoying their time there. That's not for me to dispute or judge.

    I personally wish the topic hadn't gone off-track with discussion of other aspects of the guild.

    But imo the key issue that most people posting here are having, and the one that attracts all of this negative attention, is the invites - particularly the repetitive inviting of people who have previously declined, often multiple times, and who have in many cases even attempted to send messages asking for the invites to stop.

    Weird to think wanting to be free of spam invites in a game we can’t block them in settings is actually harassment of you specifically who we never heard of.

    Even stranger to be surprised when you state you have so much knowledge of mmo guilds across various games that your experience didn’t also include the very common reaction of people hating this. Your story of a spam invite from a guild with lots of rules but somehow zero standards for inviting working out is an anomaly and not the rule. Hence all the people your guild removes.

    Now that I can see what guild is being referenced I am more annoyed as I had received various invites from them since I always leave a guild spot open.

    I'm not really on here to discuss the rules of the guild, the comments on this thread show that people are more interested in making their own hate stories than what the truth is. I'm here to call out the harassment of this guild in this thread, and in the discords of GMs of other guilds. Inactivity purges are very standard, necessary even, for the health of any active guild.

    If this many players and guilds are banding together to try to get these unsolicited invites stopped that shows that is may not be the best way to recruit.

    If someone came to me and told me I was doing something that was causing distress to a lot of other people... I would stop.

    We don’t care about you or your guild. We want to be left alone and not spam invited.

    If you stop everyone will go back to not talking about you. Instead you have your GM talk about his Staff (lol) and now requests in your discord for random members to come here to argue rather than cease the offending behavior.

    It's under attack solely in respect of its recruitment practices, nothing else.

    As for your suggestion that those raising these criticisms are under orders to do so from their GMs in other guilds, let me be quite clear on my own position, having criticised this group of associated guilds in a number of threads for years. My criticism is as a player who receives these random invites repeatedly on a regular basis, and as someone who has played ESO on PC uninterrupted since launch, during which time I have never belonged to a single guild. In all that time I have probably received half a dozen random invites from other guilds, in each case only once, whereas I have gone through periods of constantly receiving random invites from this group of associated guilds whenever passing through Daggerfall or Vulkhel's Guard. I find it thoroughly annoying and a clear breach of the TOS as explained in this thread. That is true harassment, unlike this thread which you claim is harassing your guild even tho no-one here is even allowed to mention it by name.
