Thoughts/review of the new Hearts week event so far?

For a 7 day event with 6 armor pieces, they really need to make the drops give you something you are missing. It's a bit more forgivable to get so many dupes when you have 14 days for 6 or 7 pieces, but only 7 is pushing it.

I liked it. I got lost once or twice and had a glitch or two, but overall the questline was fun, I found the characters interesting. I'm torn between having the quests be repeatable or not. It would be nice to replay them, but it also avoids burn out of running the same quests again and again like with the new life quests.

The event felt a little short, especially with the outfit pieces, but not too bad. Too long and they can turn into a grind. Speaking of...

I might have stumbled into an infinite glitch. I decided to clear out the treasure maps in my bank and found out you usually get boxes from them. Those boxes, often contain treasure maps, which you dig up and get another box. Look, all I can say is after half a day I put back almost as many treasure maps in my bank as I pulled out in the first place.

I liked that aspect of it. It was the box-treasure map infinite loop!

You can accept to only get 1 of 2. You just have to agree/continue once the warning pops up.

not when it comes from boss loot. only when it's a quest reward. what they would have had to do was buy something with 3 or 5 tickets earlier and then cap out

Oh interesting! I didn't realize the mechanic operated differently when the tickets were sourced different ways. I just remember I did that at the end of the last event. Thank you for correcting me!

The single gold companion jewelry piece was quite nice. Unfortunately though there's only like 3 really desirable traits and I pulled one of the worst, so it was disappointing that we didn't have another chance at better traits. All other companion gear was green or blue for me.

The resources from the boxes were better than average however.

Now that I've finished the other achievements, I'm working on leveling companion stuff... and immediately realized I have very little time to do so. I think this would have been better as a 2-week event.

Now that the event is drawing to a close, I will say that one week is way too short, especially when we're trying to get a gold companion ring in the correct trait.

IMO the starting quests was not inspiring. I had to take a break because the NPC for the fighting part was gone faster than the game could load it in. Literally spawned dead on the ground. I felt no connection to the NPCs or their problems at all. It again felt like something in the way of:

"Im afraid!"
"No, you are not."
"You are right. I am not."

I give it a plus point for letting me decline what my character would not be doing for strangers, such as hugging or licking random stuff.
Got nothing good from the loot boxes and the outfit available wasn't to my liking either. There wasn't really anything for me, but the gifts, which did little to nothing and didn't even squeeze out a new dialog line or even a single Thank You.

On the other hand, I found an addon that you can use to make annoying NPCs not talk to you. That was the highlight of this week for me.

A disappointing event for me, as always when it comes to events in ESO which are based on grinding and not fun of the players, which should ALWAYS come first.

The quests were not interesting at all because they did not connect with elder scrolls lore in a meaningful way. Go there do that come back and so on... that type of writing needs to stop. Nobody likes that and creating content should never be an excuse to create poor quality & random MMO grinding content.

The crates were a plus but rest of the rewards did not matter. Companions are not a useful feature in the game anyway.

What I would like to highlight is the gatekeeping of mara's rituals. It should be easier to marry another player in game and this week's event should allow that with special celebrations we can attend and so on. What about marrying an NPC you like ? As always, this is a missed opportunity.

A message to the devs : Start being more creative !

It's been almost a full year since I'm after Purple Quickened Greaves. I spent the whole event farming WBs and running traders. I've got as drops, and seen a lot on traders, of Purple Quickened Heavy gear: Gauntlets, and Pauldrons especially, but everything really. NOT. A. SINGLE. GREAVES. I'm giving up my hopes... (XBEU)

Edit: I know that single piece won't change anything, but it's for completion. I got 5 Companions in full Purple except for that piece. The others are in blue but I don't really use them. I'll be done when I get that...

Good event & liked the rewards & how to get them.

But the 5 min cooldown has to go. It just ruins gameplay.

Was using event to get rid of Treasure Maps, with farming mats on the way to ‘waste’ time. Then would get a box from a node & have to start the timer again.

This is not good gameplay. The game should not be encouraging me to NOT PLAY & do something else for a while.

And for a 7 day event, the duplication on the Style Pages was ridiculous (3 hats. 3!)

Outfit is A+ for me. Love it.

Enjoyed 3 of the 4 quests.

Mara focused and Sanguine remembered.

Turn Companion letters from in-game mail to house items like their quest letters.

Have companion voice actors return for some voice lines/reactions.

Curate outfit rewards if the event is short so we don't get duplicates.

Other suggestions would be more about some general game issues so will skip here.

Agree with all of these except I love the emote, my partner and I did the quest together and tried out the emote, made us laugh. We are already in a committed relationship, not sure I'd use it in earnest in any other situation.

Definitely agree on the suggestions, was disappointed to see we got a nice letter from a companion..... in the in game mail that would expire. Really want a furnishing.

Also an option to HUG! Would love to see the ability to hug the giant tiger NPC, or even our companions! Or.... other players?
A one time only, might bug out or get hidden by other players/effects hug is underwhelming.

Unpopular opinion, I guess, but the 5 minutes cooldown let me feel LESS FOMO, because I know I can skip or miss a Dark Anchor in the chain and not miss a loot.
Having zero cooldown puts a lot more pressure and FOMO - literally every second your are not earning is a second you are losing: STRESS!

I understand, I had to buy my last piece too that I couldn't find someone to trade with. If we log in every day and do whatever they want us to do for a box, it would feel better if we could complete the outfit from rewards.

Don't get the ticket system, I got my 2 tickets every day but it was not enough to own of the award pet, or whatever the rose thorn, statue, and such and such converted to. I don't really care as I would have been happy with a wreath or something like that and I don't do anything with cosmetics.

it's possible it's not working as intended >.> pretty sure i saw a post on a similar thread today saying they tried to get tickets through the quest (i didn't realize there WAS a quest you got tickets from for this event...) and when the thing came up saying they would not get all the tickets, clicked to confirm.... and nothing. they tried on more alts with the same result.

i guess on the plus side, we shouldn't have to worry about this anymore with trade bars not being capped. another thing i used to do was get the indrik feathers since they are also an odd number of tickets. which will also be less of a thing since you won't need to put multiple indriks together anymore for the morphs XD

i was fairly happy/neutral on the event until the last 2 days. i have companions on my main account, so i could get tickets on my own there with no issues. my alt account doesn't have any companions. but i have a friend who would group up with me on a world boss every night. they weren't able to do the last 2 days. so i would sit at the world boss with 8+ ppl there and ask in say "can someone pls group with me so i can get my tickets? ^.^" and i'd have to either ask multiple times, answer questions about why i didn't have companions and/or run around and try to invite ppl until someone accepted. wasn't sure if i was going to be able to get the last 2 tickets this morning, but finally someone accepted. maybe i'm just a weirdo that when i see someone asking to group, i throw them an invite. i am really not a fan of events where other ppl can interfere with your ability to get tickets or like this one where you are dependent on someone else.

I saw mixed feelings in the comments I did read, but my own feelings were that this was a great event. I liked that the rewards were good to great, but not FOMO necessary. As a result, I actually played more during this event than I have in 6-8 months.

I liked the event's decorations (though I wish we could have gotten some of those in the boxes)
I liked the companion rapport gifts, and that the epic one gave a special mail. Would have been nice to have it as a furnishing.
I liked the Golden Pursuit. I liked the furnishings are not bound. As a pet lover, I was very pleased to get the cat plushie furnishing.
Getting guild citations was nice. While not exactly useful for me, they can be given or sold to other players who are newer in their ESO journey.
The gold companion ring was great (but I think I would have felt disappointed if I'd gotten a trash trait ring. Not sure on solution)
Maps were fine - I'm rather indifferent about those, but I didn't hate getting them (unless it was ANOTHER Deadlands map #whatever that I got 7 of during the event).
Recipes were mostly fine. I ended up getting about 6-8 recipes/patterns that my crafter did not know, which was exciting. But there was a lot of absolute trash. Not a problem though, as again, while maybe not useful for me, there were lots of people who were happy to take them off my hands if I already knew them.
I liked the XP bonus for companions. Since I don't play much anymore, I'd resigned myself to not being able to finish off Zerith-Var's max level. I was successfully able to get him to max level, and get his touching letter about Jakh, and unlock the passive of Jakh's bell.
The new quests were good. The guild/party we helped were all endearing. The hug with the big Khajiit didn't work for me (bummer) but there were so many people around I probably couldn't have seen it well if it did. I didn't care much for how Sanguine looked, it didn't seem particularly on brand. But just my opinion.

I did have to buy the style pages I wanted that did not drop from the limited event gold boxes. Not necessarily a bad thing, but just a thing.

I do wish we could deconstruct companion gear.

All in all, I was very pleasantly surprised by this event, and how much I enjoyed it. Before we had it (but we knew the event was coming) I was certain they were going to drop in companion romance options, which I was somewhat annoyed by (not a system I'd bother engaging with). While it is likely to happen in the future, I think the positive experience I had with this event at its inception has inclined me to even not roll my eyes too hard when that time comes.

I did finally see there were achievements with this new event so that let me get a little more mileage out of it. I did get Azandar leveled up to 20 and Zerith-var up to 14 or so before I had to take a rest.

I would have enjoyed this event more with the reward boxes dropping in public dungeons, which are quicker for leveling as I said before. After I got all the tickets I needed I stopped going to world bosses so I didn’t get any more gold boxes either. Also, if the devs would allow us to bypass the unlocking of companions on alt characters after unlocking on one character already I could have enjoyed it more. My main character is not a high dps character and her rotation is not easy on the hands like my trials character, so the IA was not really an option for her. I have not unlocked the later companions on anything but my main character because their story quests are so long, so I could not take Zerith-var or Azandar to the IA with my trials character to level up and get reward boxes.

I was actually relatively satisfied until nothing was done/said about pickpocketed items not being able to be used for companions, sold, laundered or stored. A limited time event with new event mechanics launching and NO oversight. The silence is deafening and any goodwill built up by an actual (in my experience, I know mileage varies) functional, reasonably easy event is negligible. I'm right back to skeptical, and left with the familiar implication that nothing has changed in management, communication or maintenance except in certain useful spaces for marketing.
