Written Explanations below each category as well for anyone who prefers that over a video format. <3

-Today's video gives a little bit of an insight into the relationship my elderly mom has with ESO, how she has overcome being a "beginner" and some tips and tricks for all of you on how you can go about navigating the world of Tamriel a bit better.
I will be making continuations of this video down the line when I can, so this in no ways is "everything there is to know" or anything. I hope this helps someone. And anything anyone else might have to add below, feel free! Always welcome extra info and a continuation of the discussion. :)

04:51 Tip #1 What To Do First In Game!?

My first and primary tip for those who ask commonly, is focus on the main story!! The icon which is thicker with extra lines in it indicates main/zone stories. Not only are these the most compelling and well made quests in the game, and help bring you into the lore. They also often reward skill points at the end of a major section and lead you through various locations on the map, near sky-shards & sometimes into dungeons which also reward skill points.

A quick note, is that the thinner triangular arrow icons indicate any other general quest (side quests)

And the blue indicates repeatable quests, daily crafting writs, zone repeatables, event repeatables, PvP dailies you get the point.

05:41 Tip #2 Creating A Character Info

Pick a race, this is not a decision which will ruin a character or build path later on like in some MMO’s. The perks are generally small and can work for many different types of play styles. BUT if you want to be very min max effective, this is the general breakdown of races and how they pair with class or build types. Not a hard rule, and there are exceptions. But this list will not do you wrong if you want safe options. (In Order top to bottom per my experience)

Mag DPS - High Elf, Dunmer, Breton, Khajit
Stam DPS - Khajiit, Orc, Dark Elf, Redguard
Tank - Nord, Argonian, Imperial
Healer - Argonian, Breton, Khajiit, High Elf

The classes themselves are also versatile, especially with subclassing now. When picking a class you can technically drop all but 1 skill line later on and mix-match with other classes. Every class can wear any armor type, light medium or heavy and receive the perks which they bring. And most builds encourage use of a mixture of two or three armor types at once.

06:54 Tip #3 Where Can You Go & Play From Lvl1-50?

The world levels with you, and allows you to play along side all other players at various levels. So you are not constrained to a single “starter zone” and moving in the same level path for every alt you create like other games.

There are of course qualities to zones which originally were starter or low end zones, that make them stand out as such. But the differences are not extremely notable. Even the newest zones are accessible for new players to succeed in the open world. Keep an eye out for the difficulty option coming very soon to ESO, overland content will be a lot more deadly and more rewarding depending on which selection you make. Expected to land between April and June for the second half of Season 0.

07:43 Tip #4 Fun/QOL Tip - Get A Companion asap

Get a companion asap, if you have access to the DLC’s necessary to use any (Blackwood, High Isle, Necrom, Or Crown Store/ESO+ Unlocks). They have special perks depending on which you pick, and can help tank, heal or DPS depending on which you pick.

(Also during this event, if you have a companion unlocked with the first main quest done to use the companion. You will get an insanely valuable legendary companion ring out of your first gold event box. It's the only way to get one in game unless you want to buy them for hundreds of thousands or millions of gold each.)

08:18 Tip #5 DO NOT Vendor Crafting Mats - Sell To Players

Do Not vendor crafting materials!! The amount of gold you get from selling these on trade posts is always hand over fist far more valuable on guild trade posts. Simply join a trade guild, list them and profit!! Ive seen plenty of players make this mistake and it costs them thousands or millions of gold over time.

08:43 Tip #6 How To Level Crafting Professions Fast!

Intricate gear with the ribbon icon

on them, are great for disassembling for crafting exp in that item’s respective skill line. The higher the items level the more exp, also the higher the quality the more exp. So if you find yourself with an excess of green or blue or even purple upgrade materials, you can upgrade these pieces before disassembling them for rapid exp gains. I also tend to upgrade many of mine before selling them on trade posts, for wealthier players upgrading alts at a fast pace.

Leveling enchanting works the same way, 160CP purple Glyphs being deconstructed is the fastest way and its not terribly expensive if the crafter picks the right runes.

(Beware, upgrading lower tier versions is far less efficient and if you upgrade gear without the proper skills unlocked, it also costs many more materials and is less cost effective. Seek help from established kind veteran players.)

09:48 Tip #7 What Content To Buy On The Crown Store

Feanor! Should I buy Every individual DLC?!?

No, for Content access! ESO+ gets you access to most of the games content, and for a new player. Having ESO+ will mean you don’t really need to consider further purchases for quite a long time unless you so desire.

For most players I would not advise buying each DLC outright, as there are many and it just seems like a massive undertaking I find a bit trivial especially since the perks of ESO+ are so massive with the bag space, INFINITE craft bag, exp buff, travel cost reduction, housing furnishings double limit and more. Base game + ESO+ is what I would recommend any new player for the first few months or even longer.

(Or just play base game with no subscription for as long as you want, especially with new free DLC's coming this year with seasons.)

10:53 Tip #8 Important Daily Task: Mount Training & Update 49 Changes

Mount training is quite the doozy to max out. Start on this immediately, it’s extremely affordable. It’s just easy to forget, so back when I was still working on it. I would start my day upgrading speed to 60, then capacity to 60 and finally stamina to 60.

If you know for sure which alts you want, I strongly advise creating them and adding them to this routine. Even if you just park them at a stable, send them some gold from your main and log onto them for a minute each day. Because every mount training per character takes 180 days (excluding the random riding skill book rewards from crown store or login rewards, I would not recommend buying these with crowns. Generally the value is not great for the benefit)

An important thing to note here, is that Zos is reworking this and making it less of a slog very soon. I would still get started on it asap, but when the update comes you will be able to do 3x the upgrades each day, meaning this time sink will be cut down to 33% of what it was for all time prior 180 days down to 60 days. We suffered so you don't have to! haha

12:05 Tip #9 Important Daily/Weekly Task: Craft Trait Training + Priority

Craft training!! This is huge, the time it takes to become a master crafter once you realize it’s importance or allure, is immense. So while it does not seem super pertinent immediately as a new player, it is extremely likely to be so later. And you will thank yourself for getting started sooner than later. Simply take armor and weapons you were going to vendor or dismantle, to a craft bench which matches the type. And instead absorb the item to initiate a training timer on that trait for that armor or weapon type. Once complete, that character will now always be able to craft that item type, with that trait. Or transmute items of that type, with that trait.

The total time to learn every trait as efficiently as possible on cooldown, without day skip scrolls is: an entire year. Over 365 days of mindful and intentional trait research on cooldown, with all the craft tree passives unlocked. Without those passives it can double or triple in time!! If you gather enough gold to afford all the various day skip scrolls for each craft, this can reduce down to around 130 days which is still quite the investment. So again, get started early when you aren’t pressed about needing it done. 🙂

Important note! Some traits are far more common staples of most builds than others, so you want to train those as a priority over others. So you aren’t stuck later on waiting a whole month to learn divines on your cloth gloves or something when you need it right then. Those traits on average are as follows:
https://ibb.co/Jwjtfjg7

Divines on any piece of gear, this is always a decent option and one of the most sought after stats on any piece in general. (Infused is a secondary answer to this for other PvE needs)

Reinforced on chest, legs, shoulders & Helm

Impenetrable on belt, gloves, boots, & Shoulders (PvP Only)

Sturdy, Divines, Reinforced, or Infused on Shield

Infused, Sharpened & charged 2H BS Weapons

Precise, Sharpened, Charged & Nirnhoned 1H weapons

Precise, Infused, Nirnhoned on Lightning Staves

Sharpened, Infused and Nirnhoned on Flame Staves

Powered, Infused, Charged & Precise on Restoration Staves

Infused, Powered & defending on Frost Staves

Bloodthirsty, Protective, Infused on Jewelry

15:13 Tip #10 Some Advice On In Game Crime

Crime exists in ESO, and you can participate but at a risk. This risk comes in the form of gold and or your life. You can crouch and see if anyone spots you with this open or closed eye icon, standing behind an NPC with no witnesses will bring up the option to pickpocket except for some excluded NPC’s with dialogue options. Join the thieves guild to really pursue this lifestyle to its fullest.

Later on, if you join the dark brotherhood. Crouching behind an NPC can also enable an option to assassinate them if you really disliked how they looked at you.

Its worth noting, if you get caught and pay the guards the fine for your crimes. Or if they kill you. They don’t just take the gold fine you owe, they also wipe your inventory of every item marked as stolen. Turns out, everyone in Tamriel puts very obvious signatures on each and every item haha. So until you launder or fence said item, its at risk of being lost in your inventory during an attempted arrest.

16:26 Tip #11 How To Respect Skills/Talents + The Free Trick

If you messed up your skills and want to redo them, or you wish to change your build. You need to visit one of the shrines like the one in mournehold next to the bank or grahtwood right off the shrine, pay the fine and revert or move around whatever you like. OR you can leave an armory slot empty, and “equip” the empty slot to start fresh. For free! The only downside here, is that you have to leave a slot empty instead of using it for secondary setups and when doing this, you have to redo all of your points even for crafting and its a bit tedious. (You can save a setup where only your crafting is complete, or skills you know you never want to reset. Save that setup, and then any time you reset the rest you can start with those done at least.)

17:23 Tip #12 SAVE TIME! Don't Make This Common Mistake Scrying

Do not forget about your antiquarians eye!! Very often, players will begin their journey into scrying and excavation and then get side tracked. And by the time they get back around to continuing it, they will have forgot about the tutorial and the tool which aids in finding the dig site. Save yourself tons of time and pain by making use of this tool. Add it to your quick slot bar, and speed up your hunting process. Tons of my guild mates have stories, falling victim to this mistake and some even leveled theirs all the way up to 10!! Without this tool, meaning they would just run all along the highlighted area desperately seeking the glowing dirt mound. There is also an addon which helps this a little more, and keeps track of places you might frequent from treasure maps or your favorite zones to play in called: ScrySpy
