Silly Complaint - A Genuine Hug for our new tiger friend

Like the title says, this is a silly complaint, but I do wish the hug animation for hugging Kuzam-jo was a little more heartfelt and genuine, considering the event in question. We can already reject him outright, so the harsh option to say no is already there.

(Edited because people are strange but keeping context of the original post)

My character is actually very affectionate and would have happily returned the hug, but alas we don't have this option on the only occasion it truly would have made sense. Instead our character just floats awkwardly and sounds put off. Yes, I realize it's likely to imply the hug was 'too firm' or something I don't really care. I just wish there was more compassion from our character, or at least the option for it.

It's clear that what Kuzam-jo says is a nod to some emotional disorders that real people can and do have, such having trouble with physical affection and losing friends because he doesn't quite understand how to act.

So yeah, that's the whole post lol. I wish our characters could have been more tender and kind to Kuzam-jo. After all, you gave us the very weird option to flirt with the Daedric Worshiper lady.

How is not wanting to hug a stranger you've just met (a huge tiger of all things - if they hug you like that, they'd normally bite off your head next) harsh?

*Directs you to all the creepy flirting we can do with NPCs we just met, including one in the same questline*

Friends are made quickly in this game, as are lovers apparently. But that misses the entire point of the post.
Point is, we already have the choice to reject him, so why not have the accepting one be more kind?

Also he's a kind and wholesome priest who's clearly not going to hurt you, so that's a bit silly too.

I'm honestly happy enough they gave us an option between "hug" and "no hug" in this situation at least, because often enough they don't give us any options but decide our character's stance on other npcs for us (who our character is friends with, whom we like, our character seemingly being okay with creepy flirting, like in High Isle, without any way to act disapprovingly, etc).

I'm always in favor of player agency and freedom when it comes to roleplay, so yes, of course I'm for more options. The more the better.

Well cool, why are you derailing my thread when you already have the option you wanted? Please stop sidetracking it if you just came to nag.

I wanted to understand what other people find "harsh" about politely saying no when it comes to a very personal question - because I found the dialogue really well-written - , so I asked a question. If trying to understand things is "nagging" to you, I'll leave your thread alone. Good luck with your suggestion! I support it, since as I said, I'm always for more roleplay options, which includes more dialogue options.

P.S: The bit about hugging tigers being dangerous was a joke. I know that Pahmar-raht are no wild beasts.

I couldn't really get a good look at the hug because we were surrounded by the multitudes. Same with hearing who was talking at other points in the quest line. I am glad for the number of participants, though.

FFXIV recently added a tech that removes other players from areas next to story quest NPCs so you only see them and your character.

This event felt so chaotic with 30 people crowding each step of every quest and would benefit from this.

Divines, I would love this. I want to fully participate in the event, but I'm putting off doing the new quests for at least a few days, or however long it takes before the end, for me to actually be able to tell what's going on without losing it in a sea of players. Same reason why I don't even start new zone quests for a few months...or sometimes longer. (I'm only just now finishing Galen and about to begin Telvanni Peninsula/Apocrypha, then West Weald, then non-Wall event Solstice, though that's mostly due to hectic life post-COVID lockdowns.)

Agree to both of these. The crowds I'm sure many agree with are annoying and would be great be hidden, but also wish they for once trusted our intelliegence and also considered us adults in quests. Do not have high hopes for new event quests because of the other ones they have released and this one wasn't much different. When my main had a second option with "Samara" and her name, I thought for a moment that I could see the familiarities with Samuel Gourone who looks very similar and behave the same and is so obvious the only way to make them more obvious would be to have roses grow around their feet. But no the dialogue was about Darien. Can we please have some subtlety, intelligence and muturity in writing.

As for the main topic of this thread:
I'm all for more options, and better ones at that. Haven't seen that many of these new dialogue options yet in quests but so far you mostly get 2 very limited ones, and neither feels natural to me. Nor fit any of my characters that well. We should have options to happily return to hug and be downright rude or mean, and some options in between, like some polite or stoic refusals etc.

Agreed that it's exhausting and experience-dulling to see a character like Samara and be forced to play along with it. My reaction when I first saw her was just "Ugh."

I also agree that the tone of the options did not feel like they would fit a variety of characters' mouths. It feels more like a fan writing– trying to anticipate how us as players would react, rather than our characters.
Just even "I'm not kissing a frog!" can feel dramatically different than "I'm not kissing a frog." or even just a plain and simple "No." for refusal. As The Vestige, kissing a frog is hardly a squeamish act. But being commanded to do something like that, for a Daedric Prince no less, is where the nature of the refusal tone comes in. Having to play the dramatic exclamation reaction can remove a sense of power for our characters.

I want that khajiit hug though.

Yeah in general I'm struggling with how some of the options feel. I think the best thing I can describe it is a lack of sincerity and maturity. Using my original point of the post, we already have the option to say no, so for more friendly and affectionate characters, I was hoping the hug would be more sincere. But instead, our only options are declining, or sounding disgusted/annoyed when we agree to it. Accepting the hug is played for laughs, 'haha big tiger man squeezes you and your character flails' instead of something truly heartfelt and kind on the event about love.

Our characters don't have hardly any options or opportunities to show true affection, sincerity and care to the world and people around us, and I was truly hoping this was going to be such a moment, yet I was sadly disappointed.

I too also hated Samara and our options with her too.

I voted insightful because the hug was bugged for me and didn't work at all, so I didn't even get to see flailing haha. But given this is a Mara event, I'm surprised this was the choice they made.

I agree with wanting more sincerity in stories and the game world, but I didn't think the hug with Kuzam-Jo was simply played for laughs. The animation might have come across as a bit silly, but the dialogue with him did not. I enjoyed being able to give him a friendly hug and it felt sincere to me.
