999+ Ping After Maintenance

Game is unplayable. Not PvP. Not PvE. Nothing. What was the point of the maintenance we literally just had?
Will this problem ever be fixed? It's getting ridiculous.

Welp, I had the same issue but it started before maintenance. Took some troubleshooting with the help of support, what helped me in the end was to create a new account on my PC and then start ESO from there. God knows why but it helped and now my game works fine again. Maybe it works for you too.

A new PC user account? Or a new ESO account? I'd like to try this, thank you.

I've got like 130 ping using wifi, have you tried to do the standard networking troubleshooting things? changing your DNS server, etc?

something is deff wrong after the maintenance. I have been experiencing performance issues ever since the pvp event ended. But after the maintenance ive crashed like 3 times within the 30 minutes ive been on the game. And its been years since my game has crashed.

Idk what they did but they deff broke something for some people. Oh, and im PC-NA.

Yes, I hadn't had any major connection issues in the game in over a decade. Even during beta, I didn't have major connection issues. Now, all of the sudden, I'm getting a steady 999+ ping that seems to come and go for no apparent reason (though it's more "comes", less "go" at this point) and it came out of nowhere. It's absolutely not my connection. Other online games don't have this issue. Speed tests indicate a ping resting in the high 20ms range. ESO is literally the only game that I'm having these issues in (other than Fallout 76, but a lot of people are reporting that issue and it's probably the rush from the show).

ZOS needs to get on it. I have no desire to play if I have to hit a key a hundred times before I get the action I want.

I had this problem since 6th February. Did everything to fix it in a case the problem is on my end but nothing changed.
Now i am back to normal after yesterday maintanance. PC EU.

I ask because sometimes DNS conflicts can cause dead packets, what seems like a silly solution sometimes is the correct one. I at one point had connection problems for one specific online service, and it ended up being a DNS issue. the DNS server I was using wasn't resolving the website properly. changing my DNS server fixed everything.

of course, on Windoze there's no useful diagnostic tools, like dig, to check your DNS resolution, but switching it to 4.4.4.4 (Level 3) is an easy enough test

You're fortunate that it's working for you, the ping is still atrocious on my end sadly. I'm all out of ideas on what to try to make sure nothing is a problem on my end and, like I said, this is the only online game that does this to me.

Alright, I need to apologize to ZOS, I seem to have fixed it. I'm not sure which of my recent changes fixed it but if you're on Linux like me, you can try three things:

    1. Add a backup DNS resolver from a different provider (I use Quad9 as my main, Mullvad as backup).
    2. Disable wifi power save if you're on wifi (I have to be, can't run any ethernet to the space where I keep my PC).
    3. Switch to GE Proton 10-30.

Most likely, it was either the DNS resolver switch or the wifi power save that fixed it but using GE Proton isn't a bad idea when you're having compatibility issues so I figured it couldn't hurt.

All that said, I'm not sure what changed to make things work this way. I sure didn't change anything on my end, the issue cropped up out of nowhere because the game used to run perfectly before all this.
