Please let us remove columns inside houses

I'm currently decorating the Wildgrown Chapel of Julianos and am having a hard time making the main floor look good. I'd like to break it up into a couple of smaller areas with walls, or doorways, or arches, but just end up with long narrow hallway looking areas or small squares too small to put much furniture in. I really wish we could remove columns like these inside our houses.

You can always try to put walls (or something similar) between the columns to create your own spaces!

So many good Colovian structural pieces which are fairly big.

I tried solid walls, walls with doors, and archways in several different configurations, but the rooms were all too small then.

    Darn it! xD

Yeah, it sucks when your vision of what a house oculd be gets totalled by things you/we have no control over.

I like the challenge of that, most of the time. But it can be frustrating no doubt.

The problem with these columns in particular is that they run down the center of the room. I connected walls with doors to both sides of one column to separate the living area from the entry foyer, and that worked out nicely. I now have a nice sized living area but the line of sight to the fireplace is broken by a big column right in the middle of the room.

I ended up putting a round rug around the column and some planters around the base to try to make it look like a feature which is helping. I may also add some vines climbing up the column since there are already vines around the fireplace, and try to make it blend in. But I'd really love if it didn't break up the room like it does.

It would be cool if it could be like The Sims: make everything bulldozable xD
So those of us who want to build from scratch can do that instead of cover-up, and those who want to decorate can keep the stock homes.

Of course that would require actually having landscaping underneath... my guess is it's not that simple – everything is optimized, so I bet there are just holes under houses. Same thing for columns: things are probably stitched together to a degree = holes all over, like some of the old base-game furnishing assets. It would be a ton of work to go back and fix everything.

(Same problem again when people want to de-saddle mounts, remove tassets, etc. – holes! holes everywhere! + other issues with texture maps.)

(fwiw I like ESO much better than The Sims, all around :P)

They need to consider how columns and other such things break up the flow of the rooms.

I sometimes wonder if the housing team EVER reads our feedback???

I know Kevin passes stuff along to them but every so often they should read stuff themselves.

Sticking an unmovable column in a room is just plain silly and don't even get me started on broken or items in ruins...... why are they even necessary??

Serenity Falls has a fully complete house and a barn but for some unknown reason has two ruined columns in the garden, why just why ??
    When people say to me........
"You're going to regret that in the morning"
I sleep until midday cos I'm a problem solver!

Serenity Falls was my first house and yea, the broken columns really irritated me. I tried to fix one and it's better but there is still a broken one lying on the walkway.

This is the column that is causing me all the trouble. I would have put some walls and doorways to make this room a bit smaller but the column makes it so I can't just place them where they would work the best. And if I connect the walls to the column the rooms are too small and cramped feeling.

Please let us remove structures like this inside our houses. Or don't put things like this in the middle of a room in the first place.

It makes sense from a construction standpoint, it would need to hold up the weight of the ceiling. I don’t even notice things like that.

I would not be opposed to an option to remove things like columns, though they would count as slots that contribute to the housing limit if they did. I would prefer houses were created with smaller rooms. There is so much open space in that room that is hard to be utilized in an effective way.

That is why I want to break it up into 2 or 3 separate spaces but the columns limit where walls can be placed.

I'll try a few more layouts later today but I really don't know what else I can do.

I played around with this today and ended up doing this to the column. I think it looks more like it belongs there now since there are roots invading through the walls in other parts of the house already. And I put a bigger carpet to make the floor look less bare.

But I really would love to be able to remove that column.

I wish all building structures in housing was made of separate furniture pieces that we could remove.

Imagine if we had all those modular building pieces.
