Can't log in to game

I was able to log in just fine the other day, now I'm seeing an error saying login failed. Your username or password may be incorrect or inactive at this time. I am able to log into the website just fine I just can't log into the game.

    The same thing is happening to me. I was able to log in fine as of two nights ago, but beginning yesterday, I received that same error described in your post. PC NA ESO launcher.

    I have the same problem. It started yesterday I made a ticket last night. I still can not login into the game. The account website and forums are the only things working. Ticket: 260202-004708

    PSN-NA, I kept getting the failed to log in error repeatedly until I deleted the saved file and did a reboot. Ever since that I keep getting the save error that plagued console awhile back but at least I can log in now.

    It gets even stranger. I went to go cancel my sub since it seems like I wont be able to play when it renews at this rate and the website wont even let me do that anymore. it shows an error message stating that i need to purchase the game or enter a retail product key in order to set up a recurring subscription? Right next to that it clearly shows I've had an account since 2013 and that my recurring sub charges soon. What is even going on here?

    I tried this morning to login and still got the same error message. I also tried deleting the UserSettings.txt file after making a backup (I am assuming that is the file you are talking about) but that did not work. I think there is something wrong with authentication server.

    I'm having the same issue, and have sent in a ticket that still hasn't been seen. Sure would be nice to at least have some sort of, 'Hey, we see you and are looking into it,' at least, either here in forums or in the help request.

    As of now: Feb 5, 2026 7:53pm CST on PCNA I have been unable to log into the game for 4 days and am receiving an error message stating "Your user name or password may be incorrect or inactive at this time...". I am able to log in to my account on the web using the same credentials and it shows my account is active. I have checked for updates and ran repair install-no help. When is this issue going to be resolved? I am ESO Plus member and been subscribed since game launch and never experienced this issue before.

    As of now: Feb 5, 2026 7:53pm CST on PCNA I have been unable to log into the game for 4 days and am receiving an error message stating "Your user name or password may be incorrect or inactive at this time...". I am able to log in to my account on the web using the same credentials and it shows my account is active. I have checked for updates and ran repair install-no help. When is this issue going to be resolved? I am ESO Plus member and been subscribed since game launch and never experienced this issue before.

    I'm getting the same error. My issue began at the same exact time, and the remedies you tried did not work for me either. Been playing since Beta and never had this happen. Support responses for my ticket have unfortunately not been helpful so far.

    This is what, day 5? and still locked out. Was hoping the second store/account maintenance yesterday would fix it.

    Got the canned response to my support ticket, which is all stuff I'd already done well before they suggested it. Have tried another fresh password for kicks and giggles, a repair on the game, and even checked to see if Addons were to blame. Nope.

    Really hope someone will finally notice this mess and make it right, one way or another.

    In one of my responses to the customer support I asked them to see if my character still existed on the live server. I am starting to think this might have to do with pts copies. I remember last year there was some issue where people were getting items or crowns from the pts. I don’t remember the details; but I think they accidentally may have turned off or removed accounts from live instead of the pts.

    Because on the pts you can buy items from the crown store so it seems they are duplicating the account in some manner to grant pts access. I think this process may have went wrong earlier this week.

    If our characters and houses are still on live then its an access issue, if not they may have nuked the wrong server when making the account copies to the pts.

    Finally got in today, though I think the email reply to my ticket was from last evening some time.

    Got a second email saying I'd purchased an Imperial Edition Upgrade, which considering I've had that for years, must have been their 'sorry for the inconvenience' gift. I guess I'll just be grateful they decided not to blame me for deleting my own account and that I can keep playing after all. Just feels crappy that it never was really acknowledged, just got a 'you're fixed up, off you go'.

    Hope everyone else gets their accounts fixed up as well, should be coming soon!

    I got into the game yesterday after receiving an update from support. I also got the email about Imperial Edition being added which I already had on my account so it might be something affecting players that had purchased the imperial edition in the past.
