Why is the performance during Whitestrake Mayhem fine?

Every time when Whitestrake is on, my performance massively improves and is completely fine even in mass zergs... how is that? Do they just provide additional server resources? How does that work exaclty and is it a cost thing that its not possible all the time?

I mean alot PVE Player, alot more questers and less Ballgroups in the same Instanz (Campain).

    Nothing new.

PVE Player dont harm the Hamster Server as much as PVP Players do.

I've long suspected that the hamster gets a couple rations of pervitin, but I can't prove it. 😅

I question if some PvE servers are diverted to bolster PvP performance because, without fail, every Mayhem the PvE side of things suffers. Trial lag has been rather bad and Group Finder has repeatedly broken ever since the event started.

The performance has not been consistent for me during Mayhems, this one included.

There have been certain Mayhems in the past when ZOS did not add extra campaigns, performance was not great, and the players noticed, so "Every time when Whitestrake is on" seems overly generalized to me.

During this current Mayhem, I've occasionally had laggy performance and occasional (though rare) positional desyncs. There were a couple of times when an NPC resource guard hit me and I went slowly floating up into the air away from the guard, a thing that used to happen much more frequently and to a lot of players. After a few seconds my character falls back to earth where he is, rather than getting rubberbanded back to his original location as used to be the case, so the frequency of this happening has improved, the duration of the floating has greatly shortened from how long it used to last, and the behavior once the floating stops is less jarring than it used to be. This improvement seems to be unrelated to Mayhem, since outside of Mayhem it hasn't been happening to me like it used to, but then it happened a couple of times during this Mayhem.

Aside from these "sailing slowly through the air" positional desyncs, there have been times while fighting NPC guards when my melee skills wouldn't seem to connect with my targets, even though I was standing in the guards' faces so to speak. After a few seconds things would return to normal. This is also something that has been observed outside of Mayhem, and it has not gone away during the current Mayhem, although for me it has generally been happening less often than it used to.

As far as performance during PvP fights, the amount of graphical and audio stuttering and heavy lag during large fights has noticeably decreased, at least for me-- but this improvement became noticeable (for me) sometime last year, long before the current Mayhem began.

I'm hopeful that these recent performance improvements outside of Mayhem will continue. But I'll also say that performance for me has noticeably improved overall (in PvE and PvP) since I began playing ESO on a gaming laptop and upgrade to a fiber internet last year-- but only as long as my laptop's power adapter is plugged in. When running on battery power (even at 100% charge), the OS slows down both the Wi-Fi and the GPU to conserve battery power, and my ability to override that behavior was seemingly removed by a Windows update. That experience has driven home to me how sensitive the game's performance is to the client side of things, especially the speed and constancy of its internet communications. All that is just to say that I'm aware my own observations about the quality of performance might be quite differ from someone else's observations, given how much of an impact each of our client-side setups can have on performance.

ZOS makes a big deal about keeping the server details secret, but it's safe to assume that by now the servers are virtual machines running in Microsoft's Azure environment. So yes, most likely server performance is mainly a matter of hosting cost, and can be adjusted on the fly, or at least during maintenance when there is a schedulled event.

My performance has been amazing in pop-locked Gray Host this Mayhem. I can block, bar swap, and even use a potion at a packed keep fight. It's made me want to spend more time in Cyrodiil if it's always like this.

Certain keep sieges have been massively laggier than other sieges of the same size. It could be server traffic, or groups intentionally using lag-causing skills like having 10 people run Banner Bearer and whatnot.

It's great in Cyrodiil! However, as soon as the update happened right before the event started, I get massive delays and lag in PVE areas. IA is extra painful with having to hold block while I wait for the next round of mobs to load in.

Cyrodiil and IC, however, are amazing. No delays whatsoever. It's like they diverted resources from PVE to PVP for the event.

    It's like ZOS did a:

I'm not sure it is. Got kicked from the server after ping capped out just yesterday.

It hasn't been "fine" for me during prime time PC-NA. Tri-faction stacking still causes crashes, disconnects and general lag. The queue times are also out of control and totally not acceptable.

Fine? I still crash at least twice a day when there’s a big fight on. It’s just as trash as always.

It sure is fun to queue for an hour, crash at a big fight and then have to queue again.

I suppose they allocated a bit more server power to the PVP instances. With the result of issues in PVE instances during primetime on the weekends. There was all the good stuff we normally see in PVP during our raid: skills not firing, 10sec lag spikes, disconnects. We actually got the feeling there's a ball group in our Kynes Aegis instance...
