how do you counter the pull/colossus in Gray Host

SirCyanideRose
It seems like just about everyone, now that subclassing is a thing, is running some build that pulls you into a colossus hit. I swear, in any given hour, I see 100 attacks like this, especially on DC.

The attack pulls you into the center, stuns you, and then the colossus pounds you. Its even worse if they have Viscous Death.

Other than Nibeney, which only helps so much, how to you counter this attack? You can't dodge roll out of it. In fact, I've done so, and have been several in-game feet outside the area of damage that shows on the ground, but still get pulled in. People say "Block", but most times you get pulled and stunned and can't block, because first you need to break free from the stun. By the time you do that to block, you're dead.

I'm willing to say that 80% of the kills I see in PVP are from bombs.

You just need to block b4 you pulled, it prevents pulling.

There’s a giant loud circle that appears on the ground before the Dark Convergence (the set that’s pulling you) proc goes off. Just hit block when you see it and either walk out of it or pop a damage shield/heal. It also helps to not be clumped up with other players unless they all have at least 35k HP.

It's more likely RoA that the OP is complaining about, and rightly so. It's insane that ZOS put a free pull set like this into the game in the first place. The only reasonable fix is to add "to monsters only" to the set description. Due to lag, blocking isn't even a reliable counter.

Doesn't necessarily work since there is going to be an unblockable charm or CC following it.

Your only bet is to pop immunity pots+sprint out or you can block+streak out. Blocking simply doesnt work because half the CC in the game go through block. Even if you do block, chances are you will get hit with multiple pugs dying to vicious death or proxy det getting you killed anyways. Even if you survive that, chances are the group running the pull is just going to AoE you to death with no counterplay other than you not being near them.......bringing you back to streak or speed+immunity

    I only use insightful
BG MMR should NOT reset, zos sponsored smurfing is a terrible design choice.
PvP needs more incentives, even simple purple/gold mats would suffice.

Look I'm not defending the current state, but if we are talking counter play (rather than balance) most of these have a way to avoid with only few exceptions. Yes, the answer is to block in the end. Maybe the missing link is knowing when to block, and position accordingly.

Pull sets give an aoe warning and can be blocked.
About your concern that it is often combined with a stun, most of the time the stun is blockable too.
You almost need to assume there will be a second pull after RoA so you cannot drop your guard yet.
Most likely they will leap first. This will not give you an aoe warning, you most know this will happen and block in advance. They could have aoe indication on them though, as they prepare proxi before pulling. This is another indictor they are ready to charge. You see them charging, get out of the way and be ready to block if you are somewhat in range to avoid getting pulled.

If I could tweak the general advise of "just block", I would say "block early" is the best advice.

You are not going to counter everything, maybe the pull is done with negate, or with streak, which is not avoidable if placed correctly. Charm is just broken but technically you can see it and are supposed to get out, but it is what it is if you get caught. The area is too large sometimes to avoid. This is a Zos issue imo. I use Ball of Lightning (streak), and it works wonders, but I understand you cannot fit it in every build.

If you get pulled with others and your neighbour is not blocking, well then GG :p

Against Dark Convergence only working solution looks like Block + Streak instantly with a very fast reaction. Even then every time it happens i barely survive if i do. Talking about pulling proc sets there is also this kind of broken gameplay that is quite popular in Grey Host atm:

Imagine someone coming behind from your screen so you dont see it. They cast subt. assault and contingency (with immobilize and charm), pop a detect + immovable pot and then use NB gap closer on you. That procs a root on you + Charm initiates + Rush of Agony initiates. They use other proc sets like Selene. And they start spamming anything like Whirlwind. In the meantime everything lines up to hit you together. Now lets see receiver's situation:

You are rooted you have to roll dodge. You are going to get hit by a burst combo in 2 seconds and you are getting constantly hit spammed unil then, so you have to shield/heal. You have to leave charm area to not get stunned and this has to be the first thing to do, roll doesnt have enough distance, only real option is streak. You have to block to not get pulled by Rush of Agony again to the charm once you leave. And other player just spams gap closer in the meantime if you barely get away, so that it becomes a 8 seconds loop when charm and agony and everything firing off again. The player of course has a Subclassed ganker build, so they have normal survivability with extreme damage, so they cant just be nuked, as well.
