This reminds me of a friend I had that used to always have 3 orbs spinning around his character. I finally had to tell him that he needed to turn that effect off if we were running a dungeon or other content together because I just couldn't take it any more. Turns out they were part of a healing set (he never healed group content, he just liked to heal players he ran into in delves) and he used them to help him see (they lit up the area around him) because he had installed an addon that made everything very dark, especially inside areas like dungeons. I asked why and he said he thought it would be cool. He ended up deleting the addon and was surprised how much better his game looked. I then helped him with a damage build and he enjoys combat a lot more now.
But it makes me wonder how others can play without being annoyed by their character constantly moving.
Everyone in this thread sounds genuinely insane. You are bothered this much by what others are doing? Maybe multiplayer games are not for you anymore..

I don't want to see Mazoga gra-Ogag riding the default brown horse on a ''hide other player effect'' setting... I want to see her riding the frostbane bear if that's what the player gave her.
I don't want to see Habasi Sugar-Lips wearing those old texture stealable clothes base game npc clothes, I want to see her the Pellitine tea gown, etc etc.
I can imagine some other players would rather this setting than nothing. But yeah...

That describes exactly what a toggle does. It gives each individual player the ability to see things the way that is most pleasant for them. Players that enjoy things as they are just won't toggle them off.
Unfortunately ZoS's ability to sell all that flashy, immersion breaking, infuriating MTX (and whatever else, including silly personalities), hinges on other players' ability to see them. Because most buyers want to show said MTX off (to others, not just to themselves). Without the ability to show them off, they wouldn't buy those things, wouldn't gamble on loot boxes, wouldn't spend their crowns...

Ok maybe I wasn't clear.

Cosmetics are how they are monetizing moving forward with tomes.
@ZOS_JessicaFolsomNew VFX Brightness & Intensity [Feedback]: We have seen feedback related to the overall brightness, size, and intensity of the updated skills VFX. We are working on some sliders so you can better customize your experience and adjust the brightness and intensity of how your abilities and/or other players’ abilities appear on your screen. This will not make it into Update 49, but we did want to let you know we’re working on it and will share more info when we have it.
This sounds good, but i see you specify new vfx and updated skills, is this only for the skills part of Visual Refresh or also items i mentioned in my thread?

Heya Luna, nice to meet you! This is Jose Camacho, Gameplay Engineer, first post actually!
I am responding as I'm currently investigating the in-game slider setting implementation. As it is now, the in-game slider setting reduces the transparency of any VFX sourced from either yourself, remote players, NPCs, with settings for each sourcing category individually. That means you can reduce the visibility of everyone, just other players, just NPCs, or any combination!
As for which VFX this applies to, the slider applies to all VFX we can catch belonging in the sourcing category. For example, if the slider for your own VFX intensity is lower, then all VFX caused by you from your own abilities, mounts, etc will be lowered. We hope to include item sets in that category but more testing is needed as we investigate. The hope is to include the options for environment as well but more investigation work needs to be done.
Really excited to bring this to you as we've seen this request over the years like with your recent post and want to make ESO a more accessible game for all!

I get that in reality two-handed swords are way lighter than you'd assume from how they're displayed in the majority of fiction. But I'd still like my 2H animations in ESO to have more oomph than the current PTS versions have.
Since they want to modernize the game, I think it's time they think about diversifying the different weapon types in each skill line more. At the very least, get them closer to destruction staves. That should be the case for animations as well. The new animations look way too much like sword fighting, considering they will be used for maces and axes as well.
At the same time, the devs ought to take new art in a direction that still suits the Elder Scrolls IP. And there's been so much feedback pointing out the new 2H style being at odds with that. I think the issue is that it just doesn't look grounded enough.
We are getting an animation toggle from @ZOS_Jose and his team that will tone down effects, with a setting including multiple options.
For those who don’t like the 2H animations, or DK ones, toning down the flashiness of the skills will leave the abilities looking more grounded and realistic. Very excited to see how it plays out.
Hey yall, just to clarify, we are working on toning down the intensity and transparency of Visual Effects, not animations. The difference being Visual Effects are usually like the Flames or Electricity that are part of player abilities. Animation is the set choreography players will do when they activate an ability like a swipe or punch (as examples). To clarify this investigation won't be touching animations but will looking into reducing the intensity of Visual Effects in order to help players with sensitivities to bright lights, amongst other reasons. We are looking at all possible sources of those visual effects (item sets, abilities, etc) but ultimately we will have to wait and see for what the investigation brings out so we can deliver things in the hopefully best manner. Thanks for the interest everyone and we will keep yall updated!

I do understand, but a toggle would only effect the bright and loud effects and movements, not what the character was wearing. And it would be optional.

And where is the line?
With bright and loud it is quite easy - they are more or less measurable. But with movements?
Dancing personality is moving enough? And what about those assassin - don't remember which one - personality playing with knife, is that movement that should be affected too? /dance? Another dances? /kowtow? Jumping around as rabid rabbit on energy drinks?

Why should we be forced to give attention to anyone else just because it is what they are seeking? What about our experience being ruined by feeling like we are playing in a cartoon instead of a dangerous world where we are the heroes?
And how would it devalue anything if the player with the effect enjoys it for themselves? That is who they should be purchasing things for. They also would have no idea if other players toggled off the effects or not.

The game requires money to continue development.
Your choices are basically: tolerate others' cosmetic choices or have like a WoW-style monthly subscription fee.

So do I but it isn't mandatory for everyone and it isn't as high as WoW.

Any thing can be "annoying and immersion breaking" for somebody. Costumes. Pets. Events. Dunmer characters on Auridon or altmer in Deshaan. Resurrecting. Somebody else killing their quest boss.
Toggle for things that can cause real problems, like flashy visual effects, is good. Toggle for all immersion breaking items is literally impossible in mmo, because each player has their own list of what is annoying and immersion breaking.
