I don't see much chance of a new zone this year, they have too many other things on their agenda this year and they suffered staff cuts so their resources are more limited.

On that note, all future new zones will be free.

The thing they’re going to be selling is mostly cosmetics.

Sheogorath, make me think of shivering isles, replayed Oblivion this year.
And thief guild, feel the quest line is finished, but you could always add another quest line.
I managed to get into this playing Oblivion long ago, almost fell off my chair.

It might be possible to force this using command humanoid on Lex putting him in the throne room then the gray fox came out.
Its not an hostile spell, I tried to get Sheogorath off the shivering isles but he would not pass trough the portal

Well... You do have to pay for most of the previous main content, unless you already bought it. As for new content, you don't have to pay for new eso main content, because new eso main content (as we knew it) won't exist anymore. Because there will be no more chapters. I'd say that's what most people understand by "main content" and this is a thread for people who are asking about how the new seasonal model works, so that seems worth clarifying. Neither will DLCs exist in the form we had them, including dungeons, which I guess one might also consider part of eso "main content."

But they will be doing smaller questlines like whatever the Thieves Guild quests will be, that are mentioned on the roadmap. And you don't have to pay for those. But they do not come with zones and are obviously not of the same size as chapter questlines, for obvious reasons. Which is probably what the commenter meant when they mentioned "no new story quest."

There is no new zone this year. Whenever there will be a new zone (potentially Winterhold maybe next year) you will not have to pay for it. Just in case you thought you need ESO+ for it. You don't. There are no new dungeons this year. Cosmetics are in the new battle passes which you pay for separately.

I hope the developers could be clear and officially answer this question.
It's a fundamental point for those wanting to renew eso+.

With 125 euro i can nearly purchase 2 AAA games worth of content so a new zone doesn't seem an unrealistic request for it.
The new improvements are good and all and eso plus give other benefits but if you don't have anything to do...
Grind need to be mixed with new quests otherwise becomes boring and new quests require a new zone.

we are getting new story quests related to Thieves Guild and Sheogorath.
    agrwhuei7t2o.png
picture from the January 7 livestream.

and as Hew's Bane, Orsinium, and Gold Coast will be part of base game with update 49, there are more areas that zos can use for extra quests.
Western Skyrim will be base game in season 2 (update 51 or 52). So imagine we get a Nord or Orc companion after that, their quests could be in Orsinium and Western Skyrim instead of only 2014 zones and Vvardenfell.

new quests do not require new zones. And it is not as if we are never getting new zones, Night Market is a zone technically.

Any new quest zones would be accessible without ESO+, the only monetization going forward is crown store and the cosmetic content pass, as far as we know.

Night Market is only accessible on a temporary basis. It is not a new zone in the sense that any other new zone has been, and anything time-locked is absolutely not what I would think if I were looking for value and asking about a “new zone.” Even if it is brought back from time to time, it will not be available on the same basis as previous content.

This type of content that gets taken away at the end of a season is directly contrary to what ZOS said a year ago when they first discussed “seasonal content”:

    kya947bsefkt.png

Threads like this (linked below), assuring us that new content would stay forever, have not aged well because the official plan clearly changed — and may well change again. This uncertainty from the constantly and rapidly shifting nature of promises and content is just not what I’m looking for as a player or investor. It feels alienating and problematic.

zone-wise, they only thing they seem to have planned is the Night Market. a new "event zone" that will be available during season 0 and then again at the end of the year during season 2. aside from that, I think the new story content they have planned for season 1 is going to be set in existing zones.

I think it vastly depends on if Night Market becomes an occasional thing (like DLC celebration events) or a repeating thing (like holiday events). I would hope that it becomes a repeating thing if not permanent with faction resets per patch like PvP.

It's not permanent but the first run is still lasting 6 weeks. That's much longer than most people spend in a new zone. They haven't ruled out it becoming permanent in the future if it goes down well either.

This is going to be a hot take on this forum but I've been begging ZOS to slow down and revisit older content and systems. Do I want the map 100% filled out? Absolutely, but not at the expense of a stagnant worldspace where previous zones and systems are abandoned the moment they release in favor of the next big thing™

A year or two spent on housekeeping tasks is long overdue.

Night Market does not get taken away forever.
Some other games do have time limited content that never returns.
We already know it returns in season 2 and that it could become permanent in the future.

i know the Event Zone is not permanently available (yet), but it will be available more than our yearly recurring events like Jester's Festival and New Life Festival.

it is a new zone in the sense that it is a new zone. Regardless of it being a new type of zone that is available every other season.

We are also getting a mid sized PvP space eventually, probably not like other zones either but a zone anyways.

Well, they could've meant the battle pass. Back in the beginning, all dlc was supposed to be included in ESO plus. Then they redefined DLC so they could charge us money for chapters. Now at the time, I remember being a little bummed out but the first chapter blew me away and was worth my 40 or 50 dollars. But the point being, they have played loose with the definitions of things to charge for stuff they said would be free. We'll just have to see.

It's content in that it's a new system. It gives cosmetics the same way antiquities gives furnishings for example. The system isn't the same as the reward.

You're entitled to your opinion but it it's been said several times by devs here on the forum that new content, such as zones and systems, will all be free from now on.

Could this change? Of course. Nothing stays the same forever, the gaming industry as a whole adopts new things and ESO has to adapt or be left behind. But they've been very clearly saying under the current model this is how it will work
