It was not an option, but Khajiit favors 2nd person, with his camera focused directly upon himself at all times, because he is so sleek and stylish.

The main reason I play in third person is because I like to see my characters. Enjoying their character designs and watching them move through the world is more immersive to me than first person. I actually find it easier to connect to them and "walk in their shoes" so to speak. It might have to do with the fact that I also prefer to write stories in third person, so I am used to seeing them from that "perspective" in my minds eye.

I'll even go so far as to mod games to be third person, if I can get away with it. I have played first person games, but I generally find the perspective a little annoying. It doesn't make me feel like I'm the character, or give me the sense that my character is living in the world. Likely because I don't imagine the character to be me, even if I like to roleplay as them. (Which isn't to say that those who enjoy first person think differently from me, I just find the first person view to be a bit "disembodying")

I only use first person in ESO when I'm placing small objects within the housing UI.

But the most practical reason? First person makes me motion sick, and I can't play as long as I'd like to when a game only has first person :P I have to stop after an hour, or else I end up with a massive headache. If I'm playing in third person, I can game as long as I want.

Anyway, it's interesting to see why people like first person. Especially since I've always found it disconnects me from the game world, while others feel the opposite. I wonder if the preference might have anything to do with how people played their first game?

I can't even play Skyrim in 1st person... had to use a 3rd person mod. Starfield has been the ONLY game I've preferred to play in 1st person- but it's more of a shooter, so it's fine for that.

I use 3rd person occasionally, but prefer 1st. I'm sure the graphics are better on PC in 1st person

In Skyrim once out of Helgen in the opening sequence, you can switch 1st-3rd person at any time without mods. I switch quite a bit depending on what's happening in-game.

Only time I go 1st person is when I'm decorating a house. Prefer 3rd person for everything else, plus, I like to see my character's appearance

Unfortunately some classes are impossible to play in first person due to ridiculously oversized animations that cover the screen (see any of Arcanist's buffs).

I started in first person because that's how I played Oblivion and Skyrim. Then I switched to third person when I started running dungeons and never looked back.

1st person is crucial for questing immersion imho.
But doing dailies, combat, I have to admit I too play third more often.
But then again, I cannot press enough how much I MUST have 1st person when I'm seriously playing the core game content!!
And this is exactly why I love ESO, cuz it has fps pov and fully voice acted dialogues amongst other things like immersive bunch of lore narrative solo quests, not just basic mmo stuff, etc... at the same time, unlike most mmos...

3rd person. If I spend time on creating a character I like to see them. I never found 1st person immersive. Just annoying, always running into stuff.

Always third - but at different levels of zoom depending on content. For questing/immersion, fairly close third-person to the point I can hardly see their feet; then fully zoomed out, a tiny spec on the screen, for dungeons/trials where mechanics are better played with greater visibility.

Never first person, don't like the limited world view you get in that mode.

This was also the way I played in Skyrim (and in other games), and I always keep the camera zoom on the mouse wheel for easy access when I switch from one content type to another.

Playing in first-person means constantly being blind-sided by melee enemies. I can't even imagine trying to do trials that way.

I started out in first person because it was the default, but if you want effective combat you have to use third person, so you can see around and behind your character. I also don’t like the way first person makes it look like your character is just a head rolling around on the ground, lol. The height difference is weird.

Like some others have said, I switch to first person for screen snapshots or careful placing of housing items, especially if they are small.

Hard to say. Thinking of video games as a whole, I experienced my first games around 1990, and it were both games in 3rd as well as 1st person perspective. You even had rpgs back then where you played a whole group of heroes, but still from a 1st person perspective.

If I roleplay, I do usually imagine to be the person I'm playing, as in immersing myself into the situation and that character's way of thinking and emotions. It's like acting. I have a few characters where I look at the story more analytically or where it's more like watching over my character, but that's a less immersive experience for me.
